Would it be wise to help one clan over its own people?

Have these demonstrators never heard the expression no publicity is bad publicity? Where Riyaale's visit to the United States would not have been interesting to anybody other than his people in Somaliland, the subsequent demonstrations about his visit probably attracted more people to know and learn about this place called Somaliland and the reasons for such demonstrations. Where the comments by the American State department would have only been of interest to a small number of American politicians and mandarins (not to mention Somalilanders), the subsequent protest will probably interest more politicians, senators and journalists in the case of Somaliland! Where the comments of the British member of parliament would have been ignored as another of the many pointless questions that are constantly asked of the British Prime Minster during Question Time, the subsequent protest and demonstrations would have probably attracted more people to the Somaliland cause than otherwise! Whatever Riyaale is doing, it looks like a calculated attempt at attracting the maximum publicity possible and it seems that those opposing him have blindly fallen for this quite magnificent ruse. There is no doubting that the Somaliland publicity machine is gathering some amazing momentum. Could it really be that the Riyaale administration finally got themselves some able people to conduct their communication and publicity departments?

^^^ Apparently it will cost almost four grand in the UK. Cheap but not cheap enough to tempt people away from the usual family saloons! ps I saw the title of this thread and instantly knew who started it. I'm surprised there isn't a thread about real cars yet!

No publicity is bad publicity. These demos are actually good for Riyaale's goals and purposes. ps Did you hear about the one outside Downing Street on the 16th of the month? I hear it is organised by Oromos, Somalis, Amharas and some other Somalis from regions purported to be occupied by Ethiopia (since I can't write the name of that region/clan). Protest and demonstration is the new Somali pastime. It got so devalued now that it achieves nothing...

Originally posted by marcassmith: IT APPEARS MY VIDEOS HAVE CAUSED CONTROVESY AND MAY HAVE UPSET SOME PEOPLE. DESPITE CALLS TO REMOVE THE VIDEOS, I WILL NOT SUCCUMB TO THE PRESSURE AND WILL CONTINUE TO EXPRESS MY OPINIONS ON THESE ISSUES. MARC Look. It is really simple. On the one hand, we have YouTube. There you can post videos of all manner of things and then read the comments the viewers left for you. In terms of discussion, it's like a baby's bicycle that still has its training wheels on. On the other hand, you have Somalia online Discussion Forums where you can post links to blogs, websites, videos and events. People also leave comments that you get to view at your leisure. However, unlike the YouTube passers by, the people here expect you to respond to their queries, counter their arguments and clarify your positions. It IS a discussion forum and NOT a chat room. Now, you posted links to your latest videos. We fulfilled our part of the bargain by enduring through your sensationalist, simplistic and aimless twaddle. It is your turn to show some courtesy and discuss, reply and argue your positions in WRITING. If all you are interested in is preaching without being challenged you may as well stick with YouTube and not bother yourself with this place. At least there you'll get the odd teenager telling you that you're 'well buff' or some such nonsense.... -

^^ Did my words annoy you or something? What;'s my belonging got to do with my quote above? Dreamers have something to stand for? God give me strength! Where did you all crawl out from? -

^^ We did. But ten videos later, he still didn't get his hands dirty and preferred instead to lob these links at us from a safe distance. When you put a topic in a discussion forum, be prepared to discuss them. If the brother can't understand this simple concept what is the point of expecting him to figure out the impossible (for his level) and complicated problems of Somali society? These endless lectures are tedious and lack any depth. Ps What changed your tune? -
Heh@ North. I have not read an Arabic newspaper in years, saaxib. I read a few online from time to time but never the real thing. Lily, much obliged for the compliment. You must be in a really good mood today. You're even posting stuff without thinking and then quickly editting them (I'm dying to know what was editted there). Serenity, I am not the one trying to listen to music while at work. (Of course I missed you. But I make allowances for your absence. Farxada shaqada ayaa wali kugo jirta. Markaad ka daashid bad eska noqon).

^^ Popular as in 'dish washing' music? Are you off today? (Can't help. Have none here).

^^ Get over yourself son and talk sense. Next you'll be telling me to talk to the hand! Do you actually understand politics? Realise how difficult it is to attain recognition? Know that there will inevitably come a time of reckoning and paying up the of previous debts (symbolic debts)? There are no 'self-respecting' human beings in politics, my son. Clear that idea right out of your head... -

^^ Don't try to dilute the venom. Let him have it. I have headphones and can watch all the youtube clips I like. I just don't want to go through the trouble of clicking on something that turns out to be the same old dull rubbish I can hear in any coffee shop. Now is worth my time. -
I'm sticking with Egypt even though their own fans don't think they're going to win it. They have their very own Zidan, not to mention Abu Trika. Egypt all the way.

Marc, this is a different communication medium to that of YouTube! It is a discussion forum, and unless you're willing to discuss the ideas, opinions and views you're putting in those clips, somebody might mistake your threads on here as mere advertising This is what I wrote to you in one of your earlier threads. I have to modify my statement now. I don't suspect you of advertising I think you ARE advertising. Now if you have the energy, ability and desire to discuss these topics on here, in writing and in a format suitable to this communication avenue I (and I'm sure many others) will be happy to engage you. But if you continue posting these tedious links and asking us to go through the trouble of waiting for Youtube to load up so that we can hear your aimless drivel, I am afraid I'll have to take Caano Geel's place and start dogging you with my own rants. Put up or, please, shut the hell up. ps LG, darling, not a word. Not a single word... -
President Rayale’s visit: an opportunity for the US
NGONGE replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
^^ Utter rubbish. The bottom line is that without recognition there will not be a Somaliland. Dignity, principles and other twaddle do not come into it. It is one thing making concessions and agreeing to dance to the tune of the USA for that recognition with your eyes wide open, and it's another to do so without realising. Keep your eyes wide open, saaxib. I don't want you to be disappointed later. -
President Rayale’s visit: an opportunity for the US
NGONGE replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
Waxa la yedhi: When president Bush heard that Riyaale is coming he hastily arranged to go on a tour of the Arabian Gulf. Sources close to the American president report that Bush is sick and tired of Riyaale's constant phone calls and demand for recognition! Experienced observers have even speculated as to the reasons for Bushe's sudden Arab tour. They claim that Bush, in his heart of hearts, realises how strong the Somaliland case is and therefore, he's avoiding a meeting with president Riyaale lest he be shamed into instantly recognising Somaliland. A spokesperson for the Somaliland president confirmed the next destination for Mr Riyaale. "He's heading to Abu Dhabi next". Source: Somaliland Recorder. -
^^ It's a gender specific obsession that wholly validates my sexism.
-
Usually I am not into sexism or misogyny, however, when I see women and their obsession with bags I just can't help wondering if they're inferior to men after all!
-
^^ Of course I would. I want my relatives to live in luxury. And if I have the means to help them do so, I really have no problem with that. Besides, it gives those cooks and maids a job to do. You may be financing a few lazy people (and lets be honest, many already do so here in the West, never mind Somalia). But on the other hand, your money eventually trickles down to loads of hardworking and honest people. Why would anyone want to stop that just because they disagree with uncle marrying a second wife or cousin chewing his life away! Consider it sadaqa and don't look back. But if you're (not you Ms DD) bitter and stingy......
-
This is a worrying trend. You want to send money but also want to dictate how that money should be spent?
-
^^ What an unfortunate choice of words there. "out with it" and "chastity belt can be moderated to accompany a man"... I am now going to stay well away from this topic.
-
^^ Not at all. I just don't see anything new to comment about in this eternal topic. Cynical lady Stop. Stop. You're killing me today. (The answer is within the question).
