Juxa, Juxa you're missing the point of the topic. If we are talking about domestic violence in total isolation then I would agree with you (even though you're a woman ). But this is about a ruling from a high court in an Islamic country. It should be of interest to you because of the involvement of the law, because you are female and because you are Muslim. Walk away ma jirto. P.S. Sayid, Dee ma been ban sheegay? Maaddeey is calling them children and they prove his point by breaking up into angry individuals who threaten any man that dare touch them with death and hospitalisation yet let their own gender down by making excuses or brainwashing and what not. As for your point, that is how I understand it too. Not sure why the court made a precedent of it though. P.P.S Juxa, I have another (and different) story from Saudi that may be right up your street (Car say walk away ).

^^ I'm not the one telling heartbreaking stories here. This topic should be of interest to you(professionally and personally, as a woman). I personally do not see the point of beating women up (for whatever reason) even though I would proudly declare that I am a confirmed sexist (don't like women's logic to be honest, never did). Yet, I can get over my prejudice here and read a woman's perspective on such a ruling (for it is they that would directly suffer from its consequences). All I see and have seen so far are stories about some guy that got beaten with a ganbar or an endless insistence that it is not "common sense". Yet, it is (the beating of women) clearly common sense in the Islamic world. It is why a court in the UAE, Saudi, Egypt or Somalia would happily issue such a ruling without fear of contradiction or retort. It is an issue that goes much deeper than a kick or slap. It is one of authority, submission and control (authority of man, submission to god and the total control of women). My moral instincts tell me that there must be a very good, religious and reasonable reply to such a ruling but, on the other hand, it would defeat the whole purpose of equality for me to be the one forwarding that argument (nor is it my pleasure ). Therefore, my only interest in the subject revolves around the religious game of handbags that must and should ensue as a result of this ruling. Bal wax la kaalaya instead of blaming your own gender of being brainwashed or "caught up in a cycle of violence". Taa waa sheeko gaalo. Muslinka (maca dumarkood) waxay idin leeyhiin dumarka in la karbaasho waa xalaal.

^^ I only saw bits of the 78 world cup. But I watched the 82 one and still consider it one of the best ever. The 86 one was also great. 1990 was not as good as those two but still better than the American rubbish in 94. The 1998 world cup was not bad either. As for the rest, I'm sure even the kids here watched them.

^^ If they stick with the way they played in that first half, they'll keep it up. Yeah, I know they got tired but the manager also was telling them to drop deep (told you that you keep looking at the ball instead of Sammy Lee ushering them back).
-
^^ That is really where it all starts and ends. Logic and common sense alone are not enough. At least on that point, you and Maaddeey are in agreement. I gave up reading by the fifth paragraph, it's as painful as reading a Togane "poem".

^^ So? This team lost to Blackpool at home, saaxib. No need to belittle Blackburn. And, yes, we always watch different games. It is that wretched habit of yours of following the ball and not the players or movement around it. P.S. Go watch the game again. Lucas played a couple of tasty cross field passes to Carragaher and the leftback. In fact, every pass he made was a forward pass and every single one of them found its man. Even better, when Pepe threw that ball to Gerrard for the counter attack, it was Lucas who was busting a gut to keep up with him. When he got the ball, he passed it to the winger who wasted the cross. War bahasha dhaawo dee. P.P.S Roy went back to his old tactics for the final half hour.

^^ I am truly lost. Originally posted by chocolate & honey: LOL! Yes, it is shockingly that simple. But I think you're confusing the abuse with the acceptance. I am not saying it is simple to leave an abusive relationship. Sometimes circumstances won't allow you to jump ship. But what I'm disgusted by is the fact that some women ACCEPT the fact not only will they be beaten BUT that GOD gave another human being the RIGHT to beat them! And to that I say, mac sokor! If you're that big of an *****, if you truly think a man has a right to beat you then you should be beaten day and night. And there is the rub, as it were. Many believe that GOD gave another humanbeing the RIGHT to beat them. Is it true, is it not? Well, the UAE Court says it is true (as long as it does not leave marks). If you were a lawyer trying to sell a counter argument, what would you say? (and no, insults will not do).

^^ How simplistic.

^^ The magic phrase there is "common sense". Common to whom?

Even Al-Shabaab were saying the same thing when Somali religious scholars held that meeting in Mogadishu back when SHarif came to the office. I really don't see any change here. AMISOM are there to bring peace back and no they aint going no where until that happens. Al-shabaab and Hisbil Islam are about to demolish on their own anyways. Their time is about to be up. Yes but that position was later followed up with accusations of takfeer. To say they will negotiate now would presumably mean that the kufur 'fatwa' has been lifted.

Originally posted by N.O.R.F: I told you saxib. Song was at Charlton . He played a blinder today though (lucky to still be on the pitch for 2nd half). Queue the hysteria from Arsenal fans for the next week Fabregas was just amazing. I'm a late appreciator of this little el hombre but what a truely world class player. Waar bal u kaadiya. I saw something I thought I would never see today in the Liverpool vs Blackburn game. Both Lucas and Maxi played a blinder! Maxi was even getting tackles in 2 more wins and we're in the top 5 Told you both were good and were always held back by managerial orders (in Maxi's case) and lack of movement upfront (in Lucas's case). Once the rest of the team started moving and running into positions even Lucas started spraying forty yard passes to wings. Shame really that Hodgson went back to his defensive tactics in the last half hour. Arsenal had a great game BUT they were playing against a ten man City. I am convinced that the result would not have been the same if they were playing against eleven. I'm also convinced that City's Italian manager is not going to win them the league. This is anybody's season (Chelsea are not going to run away with it). P.S. Wigan and West Brom have class managers.

^^ If a man beats up another man the law would treat it as assault and follow the usual procedures. But if a man beats up a woman, she can get injunctions, get rehoused and have a thousand and one governmental bodies and charitable organizations running around trying to fix her problem. Guess what other group of people get treated in a similar way. (Maaddeey, tan na xisaabta hore ayaan ku dari doona).

^^ The fans will still boo him in their next game. The axmaq dared to praise the Glazers.

^^ I have taken part in quizes but not Pub ones yet. A guy at work does though and keeps testing them on me when it's his turn to be the quiz master (all Lady Gaga and people I never heard of). P.S. When Liverpool played Everton the other day and were losing by two goals, the Everton fans started singing "going down, going down" so the 'pool fans replied "so are we, so are we" (don't expect you to get it).
-
^^ It don't matter. You still follow the ball not the movement of the players.

^^ You preparing yourself for a Pub quiz warya?

This is just part of breaking the post-Embagathi usurpation of the two highest posts of the Republic by reer Puntland and reer Warmahan. Such a legitimization has already occurred with the naming of Farmaajo, whose clan appointment was dictated by the State Department. Well said, Gabbal. Well said what? ^^ I just hope they don't get to hear your football wisdom. -
^^ True. But there were three players between him and the goal and not one of them was too fussed about closing up the space. You could clearly see them allowing him to run in the hope that the next guy is going to block him. But the next guy was himself dragging his feet and hoping the first would stop him. By the team Samuel woke up and ran towards him it was too late. I doubt such mistakes will happen again. Cambiaso is back.
-
^^ You know they did. After that, they were allowing Spurs to keep the ball and just stood around watching. Both Bale's first two goals could have been blocked easily if Inter were on their game. It was all half hearted jogging really. (Rafa looked angry though).
