  1. I officially have my belly pierced!!! Ladiif, lol, I laugh and I pity you all at the same time, my sweet ignorent brotha... My definition of "Legitimate source" ain't your mother, grandmother, etc. I meant the religion, "foo'"...was it in the Koran or maybe even the Hadiith? if you can quote it from any of those sources, then I would gladly agree with you...... like I said before, I see no harm in a little piercing, im sure y'all do alot worse things in your life time than make a tiny hole in you belly! I say Get over it Ladiif, and Grow Up!
  2. I hereby nominated myself as the Person of the Year!
  3. Lakkad, Not everyone joins a greek to "fit in". My state is not in the South, so greeks ain't everything on campus. However, what interests me the most is that its about sister/brotherhood, and helping people, and others helping you. It's great for networking. From what a friend of mine once told me: "You make the letters, the letters don't make you"...so, once your in, ain't noone forcing you to do anything you don't want to do na'mean. On our campus, the Kappas are supposedly the "pretty boys"...lets just say, if i was to be interested in anything it would be the "pretty girls".....and the originals...

  5. My fave club song would have to be "In da club" <--50 Centz
  6. Hustla, Well, in Black orgz...If your in the graduate level and they have to invite you to join...I dont think they go through the whole pledge line as they do with the undergrad chapters. Yeah I would agree with making my own line but unfortunately, you dont get to have as much fun as they do cuz its so national, and you wont be affliated with other colleges all over the nation either...somebody oughtta start a Somali Frat/Sorority....That would be interestin'...wouldn't it? I don't know where you at....but I hear that they have mad connections and hookups...all over the states. Besides, I do think they do uplift eachother, even thou in undergrad years, they go buck wild. But I think its because they are new to it and all...Oh well!

  8. lol@Hustla... Sorry to hear about your friend, but I was talking about the black organizations. White orgz do things very different with their pledging. I agree with you about the hazing bit. However I disagree with you on the whole mass production thing...I think they give you lots of opportunities in school and later on in your career. They provide and implement services in the neighborhood and they fundraise money. They hook you up with jobs, and they are a great source of networks. I mean there are many ways to look at frats and sororities. You can look at the positive side or the negative side, which usually occurs during your undergrad years anyway. Personally, I wouldn't look at white sororities. In my school, most of them have a slutty reputation. 1

  11. Inshallah 10 years from now, I am aiming to be: (1) Owner of a business or two (2) Start a partnership to build a beautiful mosque that actually has a decent space on the women's area!!**b/c every mosque I've ever been to has a small area on the women's side...Don't they know they have kids with them also??** (3) Be married (Hopefully) with only 1 child (4) Get closed to paying off my STUDENT LOANS and BMW!!!! (5) Buy Mommy her very own house!!! (No one else deserves it more than her) (6) Plan for my early retirement It doesn't really matter in which order I fulfill these goals, but its the effort that counts, right?
  12. Lady Hustla, I was about to say how come more females ain't going into the business arena before I read your post. I advise you to go into business...esp international....We need more females up in there na'mean especially as Somalis. We need to empower our commnity by establishing businesses globally. I don't see many people doing that or at least trying to work for themselves and not slave for someone else. Days of slavery are over!!! Well, Inshallah, for me it will be!!
  13. For those of you in North america, Would you consider joining Frats or sororities in your school? If so, Which one and why? Where do those of you who oppose to such organizations stand on this issue? **This is for discussion purposes only! I am aware that some people might involve religion into this topic, and those opinions are valued but lets not get too extreme please**

  15. Princess, I'm not doubting your mother's friends knowledge or education but on the contrary, some somalis who practice the deen like to intrepret everything in one extreme. I'm not saying be liberal about our values and deen, however, isnt it true that Culture is encouraged in Islam? Isn't it part of Indians and some african tribes to have their noses peirced as a part of their cultures and still continue that practice even though they are part of the Islam community? I'm just saying that everything has limitations but I know Somalis point of view on nose peircing and any other form of peircing....but yet they practice FGM....isnt that hypocritical? Ladiif, BTW, Galoos arent the only ones who peirce my sweet ignorant brotha... I have my nose, ears pierced...and soon my belly ....and I don't think its excessive or self-mutilating nor will it change my deen one bit...and I will feel that way Unless I find a LEGITIMATE source which tells me that Peircings are HARAM!
  16. Shakur, That's scary!!! Princess, Exactly where did you hear that piercing is haram and you can only get one piercing for ear? Let me know where you got your sources from (Koran, Hadith, Scholar??)
  17. Why somali people walk around thinking they are better than other africans and african-americans?? We might have a "Different" look but we sure as hell have the ugliest attitude in the world. That is nothing to be proud of here people. Looks ALWAYS go away when you get older. Have you seen a somali grandma looking like a model?? I sure haven't. Sorry to burst your bubble people, because after your looks disappear we will see all of your true colors. Tamina, agree with you 100% sistah. Preach on! I'm out
  18. I think us girls come in many different kinds of characters, and not just wild or quiet. How do you know wild girls want to settle anyway? and "raise children and take care of family"...honey, nannies do that sort of thing too...why not marry a nanny... I think you need to stop seeing females as objects you can obtain through marriage and make your personal slave... I'm out
  19. Lateafa, Next time I'm going to make sure I sound like a girl jus for you, 'k!!!
  20. Rampage, You just reminded me of one of my BIGGEST peeves!! I despise the fact the word "ISLAMIST" being thrown around on CNN. What does terrorism got to do with ISLAM? To this day, CNN has not given a clear definition of the word ISLAMIST and I think it is misleading alot of ignorant americans! In this day and age, it seems that the words terrorism and Islam are used interchangeably, don't you think? ughhhhhh... things like that piss me OFF! Feel so much better..glad I got that off my chest!
  21. Tamina, You think your exam timing is bad...check mine out: I got 3 exams on the same day, two of which I have at the same time. But that's not a peeve..cuz I can re-schedule
