I take back that statement regardless of what the separatist entity in Hargeisa does.

I apologize to genialize our Galmudug friends especially on the issue of Somali women. We all value our women equally whether they are from north or south.

    Raali ha la iga ahaado.

  2. This has nothing to do with HAG community,  Mogadishu or the ruling Unkaka or the honorable people of Dayniile.

These vulgar MBB are mostly Gaimudug boys led by the sewage dwelling gangster called Dahir Calasow. They want to ride this regime and get as much as possible before the law and order takes place.

Also, they lack poetry, Somali language vocabulary, imagination and the art of clean debate. They don't understand how we value the Somali women,  and even when  they enter the ugly sport of politics,  we don't cross the line.

Definitely. This relationship must be nurtured. If Erdogan loses the next summer election a lot could change.

President HSM should get Turkish drones as soon as possible. Even Djibouti bought a couple of drones.

And most of the kids teenagers sent there , family assumed they were going to Qatar.

Of course they assumed Qatar was the destination because these soldiers were recruited throughout the country secretly. In some cases elders were involved to make sure it was diverse. NISA had involved from those hired in Mogadishu to make sure they were not Al -shabaab related.

Also, since Eritrea was under western and regional sanctions it was a discreet issue that was supposed to go without others noticing. Eritrea owes us for their freedom, and also they believe a strong Somalia in the horn would balance the empire of rags called Ethiopia who was always able to recruit a million poor men and intimidator  their neighbors.

Kenya and their collaborators inside and outside the country jumped on the case. Mahad Salaad paid a dozen fake mothers and some real ones and used the issue as a political football. Imagine if you got 10,000 Eritrea trained soldiers in just four years? that could go a long way. How many America trained since 2012? just a small battalion of 300 soldiers called Danab. And when Trump removed Americans from Somalia, the New York Times were lamenting " what will happen the best terrorist fighting force trained by America".

Now, there is unverified reports that president HSM has agreed for the evil UAE to get back their base i Mogadishu and train around 2000 soldiers who would be their mercenaries which Farmaajo and Khayre sent backing back in 2018.

We will wait about that news and if he moves ahead hell will break lose and HSM will be impeached by the public and eventually the parliament.

    Will wait.

What number exactly died, aun. Are we talking of few, a dozen(s) or more then a hundred?

Carafat is acting like a man living in a cave.

When I say people die in a training , I am talking about four or six people maximin in a force of over 5000. Also, they didn't mention another four dozen or so who escaped and went to  Sudan and joined Tahriib to Libya.

In fact, more USA troops die and injurer in training than combats in recent years. Most of American deaths relate to aviation, ships colliding and vehicle accidents.

I heard that these soldiers need probably 20 flights or more to bring them home and the government should pay for this and other logistical needs. No nation was willing to take that many number of soldiers to their country and train them as navy sailors, armillary , infantry, men, commandos and military intelligence in two years.

A nation fighting deadly insurgency badly needs these soldiers.

    Whao, Xaaji.

Are you just pulling our leg ?

The great Darwiish is now just a camel thief?

Why would the Brits ship airplanes to Aden, Yemen a year before the bombing, then assemble them and bomb Talex castle in 1920?  Why the would they bring Indians, Sawahili Africans and Somalis to storm his bases?

I thought the Landers had changed their attitude toward the Darwiish lately  to attract the Garaad community to the project and even claim to be one of the heroes of Somaliland. Even Ina Biixi joined that project.

  7. It is not the first time little secessionist lie.

In fact, every transcript about Somali history especially the British history of Somaliland including the demography of tribes and other issues were forgeries posted in the internet.

In 1941, there was no Somali movement or protest. The second world war wasn't even over. SYL was formed 1943, and the skirmishes with Italians like the " Dhagaxtuur" and Xaawa Taako didn't take place until later.

Furthermore, these were not African troops per se, they were colonial troops from all over the world dying to defend the British empire. They were not serving Africa or Somalia.Among them were the Somaliland Camel Corps who had Sawahili , Indians and Somalis who fought against the great Darwiish early in the twentieth century. Also, many Somalis had died between Jigjiga and Berbera during the war between the British and the Italians.

This was another misleading headline. Why not mention the African troops brought to the Somali shores in 1919 to kill the Somali independent movement were your grand fathers were among them.

    Give me a break.

  8. This is not news.

Last year here SOL, I even reported that due to harsh mountain training few of them died due to heat exhaustion or training related deaths. I even told that one guy from Hiiraan whose brother was their reporting these deaths.

Other than few mothers paid by Mahad Salaad to protest their where about, all the family members had contacts from time to time.

Besides, if you know military training death and injury happens especially the Eritrean highlands. Politicizing the issue is over, as Americans usually say, " just bring the boys home".

  9. It is always others telling what we already know, yet since they are the only people whose opinions matter to the world we welcome it.

While I do believe that Al-shabaab could be defeated by only Somali forces, the chances of building one and the evil  free hand the big financial companies have in the affaires of the state makes it difficult. Yet, this tragedy of our own kids killing and bombing us , and we in return trying to kill them is a disaster that must end. It is the theory of chaos ( Isku jabi) invented by the American military .

Inaga iyo caruurteeni ayaa la isju keen jabiyey.

If president Hassan Sheikh decides to negotiate without conditions , I would welcome it.

Galbeedi, how come your views and position have changed on the issue of the unaccounted debt?

    Brother Carafaat,

Bayle told us many many times that due shortage of revenue due to Covid extraordinary measures were taken and the IMF debt was entered to the treasury with knowledge of the government and the financial committee.

In the case of Somaliland, they discovered the debt after 11 months and nothing is done. Furthermore, Somalia owes the money which doesn't even mature for decades but the $80 million is owned to businessmen who gave the money probably to Kulmiye for the campaign while the IMF money was used for public service and army salary salary.

That is a straw mans argument. Do you know in Somaliland the president takes 5 to 10% of the budget for the palace which is bigger than the combined budget of four or five miniseries. Tell me one single calendar year where the budget was rejected or debated by the Somaliland parliament?. The last time a budget item was rejected or debated was during the Rayaale administration.

The southern guys might be corrupt, but at least they are debating trying to improve the system, in fact, after 30 years of Somaliland Maamul they much closer than Somaliland which have almost no judiciary or institutions.

did save the country from the brink of a new civil war, and he did push for elections to take place which seemed impossible at that momen

    Carafat,

It seems you are buying the narrative that Farmaajo didn't want election. Of course he tried and failed for extension and since that moment he welcomed the implementation of the election.

FRom May 2021, we are all well aware who were the culprits dragging the election. It supposed to be concluded within 90 days but Rooble and company pushed for one more year to get rich and fight Farmaajo. They even rejected Garbaharey which was the main pillars of September 18 agreement.

He pushed his own agenda and dragged all of us until he reached the result he wanted which took him one years, please spare us the bogus election push.

  12. Look guys , donor budget support has ceased once the election was triggered. Also Covid 19 reduced revenue all over the world. The so called IMF debt of support was discussed by Bayle before many times, I will find the clip. Nations throughout the world had revenue shortages due to Covid. No IMF or World Bank would allow loans to Somalia at this stage, but this was an extraordinary time around the globe. Imagine if Bayle said like the HSM government that he owes $60 million from the local oligarchs without a trace. This loan entered the treasury and doesn't even mature for decades to come.

I support accountability and justifying every government financial activity, but I reject this idea of a parliament being ignored/ The parliament ceased to exist since April 2021 when their extension of two years for Farmaajo was rejected. Everyone said their time was expired and they don't have any authority to legislate. There was no parliament to discuss money matter, security or even elections.

Why you guys are ignoring that we didn't even had a functioning government since April 2021. THeir was a power struggle between Rooble and Farmaajo, and many people like the chief of police, army and even Bayle has to walk a fine line.

Let us find if there was any misappropriation from the ministry but you can't debate a legally approved loan at this stage.

has any funding been given to farmers, to purchase equipment? any small jetties built? any boats, nets,  given to fishermen, hospitals build?  new schools? any infrastructure?

That is the biggest weakness of the successive Somali governments. It is unacceptable for the whole government budget to cover or use just for government operations and salaries. If we check how much was used for drought relieve or infrastructure , it is probably almost nothing. Besides, if the most of the operations of the ministries doesn't operate outside Mogadishu what do these public servants are doing.

Yet in 2018/19 both the EU and USA said they spend each close to a billion.

The NGO money is out there to be funneled to these projects and the government probably keeps its money for security and other issues. You can't progress unless you stop these billions divided between Nairobi, Brussels and Mogadishu.

Maakhiri1, those who are part of the financial management will tell you it is difficult to steal money from the finance ministry, but the gulf money with bags are another case.

  14. He doesn't even make sense.

Is this the speech of a prime minister leaving his post?

He have zero achievements for two years. He demoralized the populace and led to the worst disfunction in Somali history. Car ha sheego waxa uu qabtay? other drag the election for two years.

The great philosopher Omar Raabe said by saying Reer Hebel Raiisul Wasaare ha la dhigo waxay la mid tahay, adoo yidhaahda ka inoogu dheer, Gaaban ama callol weyn ha in xukuno. These were the group that was agitating when Khayre was appointed. Khayre is bright light compared to the dark horse that lazy and reclusive Farmaajo brought to us.

Taariikhda meel xun buu ka gelayaa. Ilaahayow ha nagu soo celin.

  15. I do agree the part where travel expenses are provided to not only ministers but the top leaders, the president and the prime minister.

Yet, I reject the idea that these guys are acting as members of a functioning parliament. If they were serious about accountability they would have called Bayle and question him. The worst of all is Cabdi Xaashi. He is saying now he had never seen a budget deliberations in five years. Because the senate was a  useless chamber filed with Muuse Suudi Farolle and Cabdi Qaybdiid. The only committee he ever appointed was the constitution committee in order to  have the Norwegian money, yet they have done nothing. This week he did the same thing and appointed those who will earn the dough without work. Where is the senate financial committee?

Xageed ku maqnayd ayaan dhihi lahaa.

Furthermore, there was no parliament or any institutions running for the last two years. The 2019 December budget was no where to be seen because there was the election Xadhigjiid, Xaalimo Yarey, Galmudug and other issues. The 2020 December one was out of the window since Khayre was gone and Rooble was busy traveling around the world to build the opposition of Farmaajo, and forget about December 2021 budget, because the country was in a mess. Why in the world would you debate a budget when the calendar year is left only six months.

They can't fool us because they never debated or passed one single item whether it is a budget, election matter or security. Dad shaqa hayey oo wax ka doodi jirey ayaad moodaa. Hadday maanta soo baraarugeen oo ay xisaabtan bilaabayaan waa war wanaagsan. Yey, I doubt, because everyone will tell you this is the worst parliament since Carta in 2000.

I can't imagine people who should have done their job three or four years ago are debating now. AS Bayle said the financial committee had signed off already. Furthermore, if you want to find discrepancies in the budget it should be investigated and at the committee level. You can't find anything in a chamber full Dumb Jadiid guys trying to score points.

External independent auditors must be brought, EY, Deloitte, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers, or similar.

Actually the Deloitte guys had certified the financial management of the government last year.  One thing we are overlooking is that there are well paid  financial management team that supposed to detect any theft.

Also, Dr. Bayle can't refuse travel and other financial allocation to the ministers, prime minister and the president. I have been told that there was a trip which took Farmaajo and a large delegation to America and he took $100,000. After he concluded his trip and came home, he put back to the treasury $30,000 that remained and didn't take the money.

I can't believe Sacdiyo Firinbi is trying to be an attack dog guarding the nations finance.

Xaaji Bayle owned that property since 2011. While traveling in Jigjiga Yar someone pointed out to me that Bayle family owned that property. Every Qawdhan and Cigaal in Hargeisa owns some property, yet it is strange for you for Bayle who have been the top leadership of African development bank and other institutions for close to 30 years couldn't own a building.

Bayle with his own money even built a boarding school with others in Awdal coastal area where his family nomads live.

Many countries revisit their history,  India for example,  started renaming many cities.

    Maakhiri1,

of course nations evolve through out their history, but the original idea and what it represents remain for generations to come. For example, the American flag was modified more than 20 times for the last 250 years.

While the stars represent the 50 states, the stripes stand for the 13 British colonies who declared the independence. Even more, when someone sees the flag of USA what comes to mind? freedom, power, wealth and the now fading American exceptionalism.

So, when we see the blue and the white star it represents Somalis every where. It is why president Mudtafe Cagjar put the blue and white star in the Soomali Galbeed flag. We might change few things, but the original idea stays. Imagine our young kids who had never seen an stable and well functioning Somali state in their adult lives, yet you could see that blue and star in their Backpacks, computers, collage dorms and their logos as a symbol of that world roaming nomad trying to find his place in this global world.

    Keep the original idea.

  17. One thing BB doesn't know or ignores is that we, the Northern Somalis, were the real pioneers of Pan Somalism project and all the folklore, literature and songs that define Somalinimo.

It was C/laahi Qarshe, Cali Sugule, Hassan Sheikh Muumin and others who composed anything national that is ingrained in our minds.

" Aan maalno hasheena maandeeq was by C/laahi qarshe.

Here is C/laahi Qaeshe in one of his legendary songs about freedom in the African continent.

  18. Folks, today someone with connections told me that " Dumb Jadid " are targeting Dr. Bayle for political reasons. He said since he along the central bank, and the financial committee which we usually never heard in the news led the debt forgiving project which will eventually leading Somalia to join the Swift banking system. The  world bank and IMF want these technocrats to continue their work.

The central bank governor  and the financial management group overseen and paid by donors seem to be doing a great job. So, the world bank met president Hassan Sheikh and told him to keep these well qualified group until March 2023 when the deal is concluded.

But, the Dumb Jadiid boys want one of their own as finance minister. So, the attorney general , by the way, was the man who authorized the withdrawal of the $9.6 million UAE money from the central bank days after HSM was elected which led me to believe he is bought and paid by Rooble.

Now, in order to find ways to get their man, they are planning to tell the world bank that Mr. Bayle is being investigated and would no longer be available for this post. Today Bayle is meeting with parliament to introduce the budget which was supposed to be done early in the year.

    Will see how it goes.

  19. Xaaji ,

you are correct it was a pan Somali flag. Whether one is Hargeisa or Djibouti or Jubba that was the symbol of Pan Somali colours.

BB , I don’t dispute that the original idea might have come from the Italian symbols and your reference of the “ Azuri” or the Italian blue is a logical. As a someone who lived in Italy,  I am aware for their “ gli Azuri”.

Having said that every design usually originate somewhere before. If you look North Africa:, the Turkic speaking countries of Central Asia they have a modified flags with the crescent while the background is either blue, red or green. The Ottoman crescent was adopted by many Muslim nations.

So, Mr. Awaale might have been inspired by that blue and then modify with the what star representing Shanta Soomaaliyeed. Usually a flag might be symbol and idea but after generations pass it becomes something ingrained in their DNA. I never paid attention to flag or what it represented until I came in North America and now we see our kids using batch of their  original homeland.

The Somaliland tricolour flag is identical to the Ethiopian one and because of those who founded the movement were based in Saudi Arabia, they added the Shahada to gain support from the gulf and become the copy cats of the Afghan Mujahideen.

Anyway, the issue isn’t where it might have originated, but what was intended and what it represented which was Pan Somalism of our fathers and grandfathers. While that dream of Shanta Soomaliyeed isn’t there anymore, the deep connection is still there.

And would like to advice tBB that don’t go that road of demonizing and giving the ownership of that Pan Somali symbol to any one group.
we used even to have flag day back then.
