  2. My issue with President Hassan isn’t merely that he seems inept. It is that everyone else around him is corrupt, and his entire team in office seems to lack moral filter. Corruption is not something new to Somali politics and we have seen plenty of it in the past, but what is incredible about this account is how openly the perpetrators prey on their valuable targets, slobbering over anything in their way without shame. It is surreal.

  3. The Senior Minister of State, Department for Communities and Local Government & Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Warsi): The British Government considers that it is for Somalia and Somaliland themselves to determine their future relationship and for neighboring countries in the region to take the lead in recognizing any new arrangements.

That was the position of the IC since Somaliland declared independence.

  4. I was surprised by Chicago.

“Pleasant” is defined as temperatures between 55 and 75 degrees with no significant precipitation or snow depth. Additionally, the minimum temperature must be above 45 degrees and the maximum temperature must be below 85 degrees.

  5. It is common in American politics to see supporters of candidates getting passionate about the electoral process. American politics is rife with stories of shoving, shouting and animated exchanges during caucus time.

Mohamud Noor is a good candidate who recognizes that the Somali vote is never monolithic. He himself supported and voted for Robert Lilligren when Abdi Warsame was embarking on that historic run for city councillor. He doesn’t mind the heated debates his supporters are having with the Phyllis Kahn camp.

We shall see who wins that Senate seat in November. The Somalis in Minnesota have become a force to reckon with.
