  1. Recently got an email. It explained the risks of using the microwave. Do not heat/re-heat food contained in a plastic container as it increases the risk of getting cancer. Not sure about organic food though, vid too long
  2. Wanyoike shows the way By K.R. Nayar, Staff Reporter Dubai: Henry Wanyoike of Kenya may be blind, but that did not prevent him from finishing second in the 10km race. "I am blind but my love for running beckons me to compete," Wanyoike told Gulf News. "I turned blind on April 1, 1985. A minor stroke damaged my optic nerve and blinded me for life. I was a good sportsman before I went blind. I refused to confine myself to bed and continued to train. I went on to win the 5,000-metre Paralympics gold medal in Sydney," said Wanyoike, who broke four world records and had been nominated twice for the Laureus Sports Award. He also won the United Nations Personality of the Year award. "It was my dream to be a champion and I am happy to show the way. I have inspired many blind people to return to sport," said Waynoike, who travels to marathon events as a goodwill ambassador "My partner Joseph Kibunja runs behind me and guides me. That is how I run despite not being able to see," he said.
  3. The alarm went off at 5.30am, after praying fajer at home and having my ready break i made my way to the starting line. I parked up and started my stretching routine to the sound of 'eye of the tiger'. It was a carnival atmosphere at 6.30am with the music and adrenaline pumping. The east african croud made the most noise; everywhere we go, people wanna know, who we are and where we come from, so we tell them, we come from AFRICA was the noise You can never underestimate the number of Brits and Westerners in Dubai, all comeplete with their ipods and irrelevant chit chat (they make me cringe  ) Anyway the race went well, i managed to run 5km before deciding to walk (my calf started getting tight ) for 1 km. After that it was a combination of run, walk, run, walk. Whenever i see an 'oversized' person running past me i would start running again . I finished in 1hr approx. All in all it was a great day, we had fun at the carnival afterwards. I saw a family member who finished before me  but he is a keep fan fanatic. We were the only two somalis  i will post my pics (not of me) tomorrow IA. Dabshid, i expect to see you there next year IA. Castro, stop doubting me man. I will be doing Everest next year! 10. Originally posted by LANDER: ^Norf how dare you man, these are true nationalist who love Somalia. They are selfless human beings who only have the best interest of all somalis at heart. They believe in One Somalia because all somali peoples are brothers and sisters in Islam. One religion, one language, one blah...I think you get the point. I'll tell you what though, many of the real TFG supporters are keeping quiet these days because they have enough decency not to parade their two faced natured on the web. I know what you mean saxib. They seam to be hiding and somewhat embarrassed 'i didnt expect it to go like that' is what their thinking hence the hush strategy they have adopted. But i would still like to know the views of Sky, Scarface, King and Allamagan. Are they enjoying the bloodbath in the south for the sake of adeero and the TFG?

  16. Somali herders hit by air attacks Following US air strikes in southern Somalia targeting suspected al-Qaeda leaders, several herding areas have been hit by bombs. An elder in Banka-Jiira, a grazing area about 40km east of Doble town, who wished to remain anonymous citing security reasons, gave an account of the raids and their aftermath to the BBC's Somali Service. There have been air strikes carried out by American planes in these areas since Sunday. Here in the Banka-Jiira area, which is the largest grazing area in the Juba Valley region, we have been hard hit. There have been several air strikes over nearby Booji grazing area too. The most unfortunate incident was an attack on a big wedding ceremony We have information that the American planes are being directed from the ground by soldiers who are moving among the herders at night. We do not have the figures of the dead animals as a result of the air strikes but they are very many livestock that have been killed by the bombs. And on Tuesday morning, a man who has lost a limb was brought in for treatment at Banka-Jiira's health centre. A driver in his car has also been blown up in the attack. When the Islamist militia fled Doble about a week ago they passed through this area. Ethiopian and government forces who were pursuing them forced about 10 young men from here to show them the escape route the Islamist fighters took. They forcefully took away the young men and out of the 10 who went with the soldiers, only one has managed to return following the heaving fighting. Up to now we have no idea where the rest of these young people are. bbc.co.uk
