The President of the Republic will receive Mr. Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed

^^are you up for a discussion this time? Your response has only confirmed what I thought. You are all falling over yourselves to congratulate a President (a President who has no power in the country he supposedly represents) for simply turning up at another country on an official visit. Great, wonderful, our President is the man and he makes us proud because he is out and about visiting and dining with other heads of state. Brilliant! The man has done nothing but destroy his country and the people he supposedly represents but it’s all well and good for some because he represents SOMALIA at state banquets! What a moronic way of thinking! -

Thousands protest US bombing in Somalia MOGADISHU (AFP) — Thousands of Somalis took to the streets Sunday to protest a US bombing that killed a man said to be Al-Qaeda's chief in the country, and 11 other people, organisers and residents said. The protest took place at Dhusamareb, a trading post of about 100,000 people, 400 kilometres (250 miles) north of the capital Mogadishu, where Thursday's attack took place. Abdirasak Moalim Ahmed, one of the organisers of the protest, said that in the days since the attack, people had been vomiting. "We believe the Americans used poisonous bombs," he said. The US air strike killed at least 12 people including Moalim Aden Hashi Ayro. The Somali government and western intelligence said was the leader of Al-Qaeda in the country. Ayro in his early 30s, was military leader of the Shabab, a group on the US government's terrorist list. Their leaders are believed to have trained and fought with Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network in Afghanistan. Dhusamareb is also the hometown of Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, a hardline cleric called a terrorist by the United States, which says he has links to Al-Qaeda. A former army colonel, he was a mentor to Ayro and a founder of the Somali Islamic courts that are also accused of hosting extremists. Since the Islamists were ousted from Mogadishu in early 2007, they have carried out attacks against government officials, Ethiopian forces backing the Somali government and African Union peacekeepers. Western intelligence officials have warned that lawlessness in Somalia has created room for Islamists and other groups linked to Al-Qaeda to operate. The shattered African nation has been wracked by violence since the 1991 ouster of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre led to a bloody power struggle that has defied numerous bids to restore normalcy. http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5iNM__UALPpHiLtidLTIC4MNqEZaQ

If the return is from solid sources (hotels, port operations, airport operations, tourism) then the gulf countries will be interested. I don't think they will care much for advancing agricultural development in Somalia. -

1. Idea - independence 2. Current govnt and their action - Riyaale/Udub No 1 is a goer - no alternative (apart from 6 months of UIC control). Supporting no 1 does not mean I support Riyaale, the currnt admin and their actions (no 2). I have now spelled it for you. Let me know how you wish to twist it, throw in 'somalinimo' a few times and don't forget to write the word 'secessionist' at least three times in your next reply.

US raid 'undermines' Somalia talks A US air raid that killed a senior figure in Somalia's armed al-Shabaab group has put UN-sponsored peace talks under threat as the biggest opposition alliance said it was considering a boycott. The Alliance for Liberation and Reconstitution of Somalia said on Friday that it was considering pulling out of the talks scheduled for May 10. The negotiations are aimed at addressing the escalating fighting and humanitarian crisis in the country. Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed, the exiled chairman of the Alliance for Liberation and Reconstitution of Somalia said: "The US strike can undermine the UN-sponsored peace parlay." "We will reconsider taking part ... due to the US military attack," he said in a telephone interview from Cairo on Friday. Alliance 'crucial' The alliance, which was formed in 2007 after the Islamic Courts Union was forced from the country by Ethiopian troops and Somali transitional government forces, contains both moderates and hardliners. Its participation is seen as being crucial to the success of the talks, which are scheduled to take place in neighbouring Djibouti. Aden Hashi Ayro, the leader of the al-Shabaab group, was killed after a US military strike on his home in the central Somali town of Dusamareeb on Thursday. The attack also killed another 24 people, five in the targeted house and the rest in nearby homes, witnesses said. Members of his group have been blamed for recent attacks on transitional government troops and their Ethiopian allies in the capital Mogadishu and other towns. However, analysts say that the air raid, the latest in a series of US military attacks in Somalia this year, is unlikely to significantly weaken the armed opposition. Revenge vowed Sheik Muqtar Robow, a spokesman for the al-Shabaab group, said on Friday: "This will not deter us from prosecuting our holy war against Allah's enemy." "If Ayro is dead those he trained are still in place and ready to avenge against the enemy of Allah. "It is impossible to hit missiles on our people and we let your citizens come to our country. We warn them to stay out of our country," Robow said. Al-Shabaab, labelled a terrorist organisation by Washington, has concentrated on hit-and-run attacks on Ethiopian troops, killed government troops and seized weapons. It is believed to have up to 7,000 mostly young fighters organised in several hundreds cells. Al-Shabaab was formerly the armed wing of the Council of Islamic Courts movement which seized control of much of southern Somalia, including the capital, Mogadishu, in 2006. Now they can't find someone to become governor! The interim Prime Minister of Somalia, Nur "Adde" Hassan Hussein, was grilled with questions on the parliament floor Thursday, where he tried to defend the credibility of his administration. Prime Minister Nur Adde, who returned to the south-central city of Baidoa yesterday, told lawmakers that his four-month-old administration is continuing to pursue national reconciliation to end Somalia's 18-year civil war. "My administration is trying hard to stop all the raging conflicts, to help Somalis understand each other and to establish a consensus government," Prime Minister Nur Adde said. He admitted that there is general insecurity across the country, citing the lack of resources as a primary factor crippling the transitional government's ability to secure the country. "After research, we have found that the security forces are not paid and do not receive food [on the regular]," the Prime Minister said, adding that the government will train security forces with a national character to help restore order in Somalia. The Prime Minister was asked several questions by the MPs, but his responses were concise and at times vague, according to parliamentary insiders. It was later decided that the parliament would continue questioning Prime Minister Nur Adde at a later date. Officials reject government posts Yesterday, a decree issued from the Office of the Prime Minister appointed a new administration for the central Hiran region after former Governor Yusuf Daboged was chased out of the provincial capital Beletwein by Islamist guerrillas last month. Prime Minister Nur Adde appointed 15 officials to hold various government posts in Hiran, including the governor, the mayor of Beletwein, and commanders of the military and police. But at least seven officials named by the Prime Minister for Hiran region have publicly rejected their posts. Relevant Links East Africa Conflict, Peace and Security Somalia The two deputy governors, three deputy district commissioners and the regional military commander have all refused to accept their posts. Col. Ahmed Elmi Guute told Garowe Online that he is "not ready" to hold the post of Hiran regional army commander, especially in light of the recent assassination of the last man to hold the post. Beletwein has lacked an effective regional government for the past two weeks. http://allafrica.com/stories/200805020472.html
