  1. I am also pessimistic of seeing a full fledged functioning Palestinian state any time soon. One thing we have to realise is that the number one priority of the Israel is to occupy as much Palestinian land as they can(You don't have to beleive me on this one).I think the Arabs did a big blunder when they rejected the 1947 UN partition of the British controled Palestine in to two state:one for Jews and one for Arabs.Eventhough Arabs argued then and now that Palestinian should own majority of the land since they are the majority, the fact remains today that Israel is a fully recognized sovereign nation while Palestine is a stateless Island sorrounded by American made Humvees.Edward Saeed was viewed as a party pooper by the PLO when he rejected the Oslo peace Accord .Today the PLO is realising that Saeed was right in his prediction that Israel is playing the delay tactics .
  2. Quantum, what a good way of enjoying the felicity of young love when the little brats are not giving the old men/women a break Warya wanu somanahay tee
  3. XU, Explicit memory ha? PS Ngonge, Dorothy haino tambeyse.what happened to the mighty of the pen lately on the boredom section?.I have a fall break next week, i need something to chew the fat with between watching the Florida game(gators).
  4. Does a top twenty US public school count(Remember Harvard is a public school) with a number four football team in the nation(according to the latest AP/US poll ranking).Go Red and Black!College football fans will understand that. Seriously is there a science major(Neuroscientist/Cell biologist) in those Somali elites? Am not looking down upon art majors from this elite instituitons but heck the difficulty of the course load counts  !
  5. Alle, your words are empty cant! I consider your remarks insulting. If you keep posting such remarks saaxiib, you will be opening a sniff of incredulity whenever we read your posts. Ramathan Kareem, Y'all  .
  6. Xiin, let me first apologies for my sardonic wit this morning.I wrote the words while gnashing my teeth together. Perhaps that was a lapse of judgment that proved less than scintillating nomad I am. I went back to read my words and found that my writing was mered by execrable judgement on my side. Back to the topic, This year has seen a strengthening of the consensus that global warming is real, with hurricane Katrina,Sceptics have turned their heads around this time and thought my be this is real.Previously skeptics have found a strength in the tempature discrepancies that was reported earlier but now with a new report out the datas have been reconciled. It was found that the temperature is rising.Bush and his “Texas oil boys†have argued time and again that the Kyoto protocol is flawed. They fear that science of global warming could be used to cap their emission of green house gases.I think their main threat now will be the public.Every one now knows about the climate. Xiin you touched on a nice issue about the religion.I have met and talked with people who feign ignorance with their own agenda.I guess this is a failure of medial temporal lobe on their brain.I personally beleive Sceince has its limitation when it comes to the matters of creation but there are some things that are guided or prooved with sound scientific evidence which if we look in to it, we will be able to find it parrallel with our religion. Alle, Saaxiib i will let you read my words one more time before you tailored my writting with some other topic (evolutionary biology).I guess you will be able to tell the differences between my beleive in this particular subject and other scientific beleives. Its not that hard, this ain't the task of telling the difference between a haze and a smoke.
  7. Castro, you are right many may argue that there was no evidence that global warming had any effect on the planet most powerful hurricanes that occured (e.g the Galveston one). However today a connection is emerging between ocean warming and tropical cyclones.According to the atmospheric scientist, global warming and cyclones share the apetite for heat.According to new research that is out there is a great increase in the number of category 4 and 5 hurricane in the last 35 years. Many are wondering weather global warming is driving the tropical cyclones. If we continue to see these global climate changes around the world, poor countries in Africa and other third world countries will be the most vulnerable because of lack of their ability to adapt to this kind of changes. PS: It took me a while to respond to you-i was busy in the general section, my apologies saaxiib.
  8. Xiin, with the coming of the enlightment from you, my vision of human perfection will take a dramatic turn. You and your comrades ideals of static rather than dynamic, one way rather than two way of reasoning will open my eyes today. And oh, Baashe, i didn't expect my argument to entrap or perplex your mind(just another useless rant). This is my last response to footle at this thread, i will leave you guys cosset your audience.Maacasalam
  9. Xiinoow! Granted everything comes with khushuc and anyone with a half-brain will realize that an action without an intention is a pure bunk. What I didn’t agree with you guys is the way you guys brazened enough to get everyone galvanize to address the issue through the lenses of a judgmental prick! To me, any girl without a xiijab might not be a gormless person on my eyes(watch the caution there!).Whatever she desires to wear is between her and Allah. Is she doing the right thing if she is wearing a mini-skirt? No she is not, but will that give me or anyone the right to bloviate for two days without addressing the girls in a more civilized manner(am not saying you did it now-just a generalization from what people wrote)?I will leave that for you to answer. And oh, if anyone might wanna come up with "what if your daughter..." analogy, let me make this clear to you that i am a practicing Muslim who beleives that xiijab is a wajiib for every Muslim woman.I didn't reject any Islamic obligation, i only disagreed with the way the message was delivered to our sisters in Islam.
  10. "For over twenty years i have been wearing pants from morning to night, i mean for every occasion.I have been wearing from mini-skirts to shorts.I need a quick fix to change my pant suit to a newer look. What type of skirt should i choose a peg-top or an A-line.Wait a minute, why will i have to choose wearing such a clothes when i can wear a Hijaab that will make me look more religious and approved by the society!Heck it may even flare a very flattening look from the brothers".Now did the clothe changed this person or the intention is what matters here huumm? This is where i agree with the "protesters" of this thread. Some of you old guys took a dress code as a measure of women's Iman. When you observe the response of people through their writting here you will witness that the conformity of a community convention have been lost hence many are stacking the deck. You have to treat your audience by adressing multiple perspective. This is where i parted the way with the "pro-octane camp". I wish you older folks have adapted the Rogerian argument based on the theory of non-judgemental
  11. ^^^^How about from physiological perspective saaxiib? Let’s turn to the chemical process that underlies the changing one sided activity detected in this electrical engineering jargons. For readers who are not already familiar with the brother Nur’s daacawah may view this from another perspective. We all know that neuron influences other neurons by a means of chemical known as neurotransmitters . These neurons are secreted across special junction where one neuron meets the other neuron-synapses. At the receiving end of each synapses there are structures known as receptors. Which are protein to which neurotransmitters binds .If this receptors fail to bind the neurotransmitters, a complex biochemical process will not be evolved. This shows that it is a combined effect of large number of neurons that allows the brain to process information from the environment and command to coordinate behaviors. PS:if anyone might be wondering what I am talking about here, this might help you. Neurons are both genders while the receptors are our ability to communicate across gender line. Once we communicate effectively then we will be able to build a stronger Iman ( biochemical process).
  12. Salaf, the link didn't helped me at all, saaxib.Would you be kind to explain it to me what ayah 4:129 means? The way i understood it is that there is no way as humanbeings we could do justice between wives even if we have a great enthusiasm for it.One thing you have to understand is that i am not denying the hallal part of having two wives. My argument stems from the applicability of justice between two people. We can have a pilpul argument here where we can all pull the pros and cons of having two wives versus one wife but this is not what i intend.I hope you understood that i am not insisting on procrustean solution on Islamic polygamy nor am i trying to vex oneself anent with what is not in the Quraan here saaxib.
  13. Katrina while i agree with you on the co-op/ internship opportunities one needs to have before stepping outside the dry power point presentation classes, You have to understand that when you have bills to pay and money to send back home you might not have time to attend that minority professional development meetings on every tuesday night.Essentially, the Somalian student have to make a choice between these priorities. Many of the internship openings wants you to work for them one to two months with minimum wages (if you lucky) or no pay at all(hate the CDC).I will be dishonest if i say that it is better for them to quit if they know that no one is going to hire them once they graduate because they didn't do internship.Education is a life process that opens your eyes for you to see things from different perspective but rarely do we see these way nowdays! Life will not be a big pratfall for you if you can't find a job in your major  .
  14. After hurricane Katrina questions are being raised whether global warming is playing any role in the global climate change. There is a rising evidence that global warming is a real problem today. Many of the leading scientist believe it prudent to address the problem soon, rather than having to deal with the problem once it become a catastrophic disaster like the hurricanes Katrina in the gulf coast. Sudden environmental changes such as hurricane Katrina can be more destructive, lives can be lost and properties damaged. When the sun radiation passes through the clear atmosphere, most of the radiation is absorbed by the earth surface. Some of the solar radiation may be reflected back to the atmosphere by the earth. The atmosphere allows short –wave visible light to pass through while retarding the flow of longer wavelength back to space, this is what the scientist mean when they say the green house effect. You might be asking yourself what is causing this green house effect to reflect this radiation back to earth. Now here is where those gases to be capped plays a role. These activity of re-radiation is caused by green-house gases e.g. carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor, and ozone. These gases are placed in the order of their emissivity strength across the infra-red spectrum.Emissivity is the ability of the atmosphere to retard thermal flow back to space. Carbon dioxide and water vapor are on top of the list. They are the most infra-red absorbers. These gases are costly to reduce. This is because the solutions entail curbing the economic growth of some country-which will likely create some unemployment. Is there any evidence that there is already any climate change occurring in the world today? The Intergovernmental panel on climate changes concluded in 2001 that there is a great evidence of global climate change occurring. According to the panel the seven warmest years in the past 140 years occurred in the 1990’s and 2000’s.This changes have been supported by new analysis that the ocean temperature have risen steadily. A decrease in the sea ice has been reported in the arctic. There has been 10-20 cm change in the sea level. There have also been changes in species shift. Is there any man-made linkage to these changes? I personally believe since there is a strong scientific principle that support all the documented changes, man has something to do with the changes. The gases that cause the greenhouse effect result from a large spectrum of human activities such as burning fuel. PS I dedicated this thread to global warming debate. If you might think that this sudden violent weather changes has nothing to do with global warming you are welcome to bring all your arguments without any brusqueness. If you are arguing from religious stand point you are invited too to state your arguments with proof and evidences.
  15. Polygamy is allowed in Islam however in the Quraan it recommends only one wife stating that it is impossible to be fair and establish justice between two wives. If it is impossible to establish a justice between two people then how can you establish a justice between two women. My own uncle back home had three wives. He used to spend more nights in one house than he does on the other wifey's house. Many may argue that polygamy is used to prevent all the deviation to illegal sexual activities but how will one become a fair game player between two people.I know personally sometimes i can't do justice between two of my nieces let alone Life between two wives which can be sometime boring and cluttered with minor annoyances(you dealing with human, remember?)
  16. Ramathan Kaarim to all my brothers and sisters in Islam .May ALLAH give us the baraka of this blessed month.I have an advice to all the muslims(calm down, Stoic can give a daawah too  ). This is the only month that alot of food is wasted by the muslims in the community. If you happen to be one of the food wasters in the community, could you please donate all the extra food during iftar time to the local pantry or food bank in your community. This will be a sadaqah, remember?Wouldn't it be great if you fill the empty stomach of the poor folks?
  17. ^^Keep your pants on Saxiib  PS Hope i didn't call your family the naked people of "god must be crazy" movie.
  18. I don't know what to do or say, shall i laugh or cry? Saaxiib, first the above comment was not meant for you, it was for the lovely Seven .Second, the meaning of the above phrase has nothing to do with beer or Khamr. The phrase means to be agressively seeking a confrontation .Now saaxiib, it would have been helpful had you understood the meaning of the phrase clear as a bell before you jumped to the whole "my family" biography
  19. Hope you will not put yourself in a dicey situation that will land you being banned.I see you are loaded for a beer, be careful out there unless you have feathers under your cap from Femme
  20. Oh my....What happened to my girls Zeph and Seven? They are not moderators any longer? I haven't logged in here for couple of days because of scarry exams i had all week long.Femme is a moderator now? I hope she doesn't edit my post when i pick on Oprah. Why did they shuffled the moderators? is it that hurricane Lilly(over the summer) effect was still not solved ? PS Zeph and seven, hope you guys will be around now that your fangs have been removed
  21. Changes in global wrming is becoming well documented especially now that we have seen the Katrina effects. The question now before most of the scientist is "why the sudden change?".They wondering if it is because of anthropogenic influences or nature taking its cause. The evidence is there but the red tape is there too to cover the evidence. Today the strongest evidence that support the occurance of global warming is the shift of species especially the egg laying migration methods. Global warming is expected to melt the sea ice and snow cover allowing the more solar radiation and decrese in earths albedo(the ability of body to reflect light). When you look at the figures out today, carbon dioxide the lead green house gas has increased 33% since 1750.Then we have methane which have been increased by 150% from pre-industrial time. Some climate model are predicting global increase in precipitation and increase in extreme weather and climate events like Katrina. Are you ready for the greatest man-made disaster in your lifetime? If no, then re-vist your environmetal principals! I left out the religion part because many may argue that this has nothing to do with science and human intervention.I do beleive anthropogenic practices playing a role in global warming.

    Personal Ethics

Raaxima, Its important we evaluate how people perceive our credibility or trustworthiness. We all convey this characters in our daily lives through writting and speaking.Imagine a life without credibility, how will you trust your Imam or your physician whom you derive solace from his knowledge. We do it because we think as a humanbeing we must be guided by priniciples and ethics. As an individual i look at my actions in a cause and effect way.First, before i do anything, i evaluate the motivation behind my action. Is it motivated by irresponsibility or priniciples?.Secondly, i evaluate my actions effects on others (even animals and the environments). We must evaluate how our values and principles relates to our conducts.
  23. Liibaax,as long as our resources are limited, our wants will be evaluated through economic way of thinking which gives us the power to reach informed decisions . The writer did a good job communicating his thoughts and ideas in a concrete and conscise way.The story does came to life to every Somalian. It reveals their personalities as a closed minded and wicked people. The description of Yibiir's life by the author can be dull enough for you if you already know the Yibiirs life story but if you are not familiar with their history then the descriptions of their lives in the book can be vivid and clear. The plot of the book did make sense to me.The incidence followed each other logically and realistically but towards the end the reader is left in suspense .The author does not show whether Ali's imprisonment was a governmental set up?He only mentions that the whole case was framed.I could not educe from the authors writting whether the government supported the racist society(i know he mentioned the government was controlled by Aji ).Ali's effulgence of facing the society was quite forceful.
  24. Medulla, Flies (order Diptera) causes a great deal of medical problem to the developing nations.Diseases like river blindness and chagas are transmitted by these tiny two winged creatures.I work as an asistant medical entomologist research technician in my lab.We are currently investigating a biological control technique that may help these developing nations control these flies. Our research being done here in the state will be extrapolated to African countries. These developing nations don't have the resources and capabilities to come up with a sound biological control. Everyday we scan these kind of pictures. If i wasn't bound by intellectual property right, i will have shared these pictures with you guys. You will wonder what these flies can do to transmit these diseases.Flies like housefly and soldier fly are usually part of domestic household in developing nations. Here in the west they don't have these real problems but they do have delusory parasitosis. These is some kind of funny fealing where individuals think that they have a bug crawling in their skin.Although there is no visible bug chipping on their skin. They still think they have a bug crawling on their beddings and belongings after they are assured nothing is found in their skins.Individuals with these problem are mostly kept on a suicide watch list. They sell their homes and even switch cars to feel comfortable. There is a great deal of research being done on this disease.A freind of mine is currently doing a research on delusory parasitosis. PS: good to see someone intrested in medical entomology. We can not all became computer scientists or engineers, right?
  25. Does anyone know if the author is going to do a book signing in Atlanta ? The author lives here in Georgia and he hasn't done any book signing here.Liibaax, if you got some connection with the author can you tell him i need an autograph from him .The book costed me twenty dollars, i better get some handwritten signature or else i wouldn't buy any of his future books(customer power ) . I understand why Minnesota will be the first book signing city for him (Somali mecca) but he better not forget the black mecca.I liked the interview he did with some radio(i think it was taaljiir radio-excuse the mispelling).
