Beautiful Shirib by Abshir Bacadle

If that's all you convict him of, then you don't have a very strong case. Unfortunately, qabiil & qabyaalada is at the core of Somali culture, tradition, history and literature. Qabiil and qabyaalad flows into the bloodstream of our body and mind. Kind of like the way Shaydaan flows into the bloodstream of humans body. I don't think there has ever been a single abwaan who has not spoken of the issue or devoted gabay to the ill effects of our society. There's no way one can tackle Somali culture or literature without that touchy subject.

Bacadle is a true Abwaan in every sense of the word. One or two gabayo does not diminish his talent and contribution to society. I recently received a collection book of his gabayo. I could not put it down for hours.

^You're asking what you know of?

There are elements of qabiil in almost every aspect of the culture. From settling disputes to counseling troubled marriages, to selecting elders and officials. From livestock branding to food selection, to our political affiliation and outlook of world views. Our culture is enriched with qabiil elements.

The conflict is not that of qabiil per se. It's Somalis who misuse qabiil and employ qabyaalad tactical for their own evil calool u shaqeysi. The average Mohamed of clan X doesn't perceive his counterpart of clan Y or Z as a threat. This is mostly true in cities throughout the country, specially the metropolitan ones Moqdisho, Hargeysa etc.

There is a difference between qabiil and qabyaalad ,,, we can say we lifed with qabiil in the somali history but qabyaalad is not something we cannot proud of.

Exercising qabiil/qabyaalad doesn't mean it is part of our culture even if that is such long long time. It is something we have to be ashamed of and try to change.

Qabyaalad waa waxa soomaali halkaas dhigtay and yet you believe it is our culture.
