Villa AMISom on its knees begging UN Security Council for intervention.

Recommended Posts

After the UAE's ambassador unequivocally rejected Cheeseman's pleas and cries. Now they went to the UN Security Council for intervention.

The Somaliland office in New York is preparing to counter this weak move.

Watch the deafening silence from the UNSC at best. Or at worse the pro-forma and the boiler-plate announcement which will ask everyone to "respect" the Somalia's territorial integrity without anyone really expecting this to be anything other than a public relation missive intended to shut-up these non-entities in Villa Somalia, who are actually are easily get "impressed with words" (an empty ones at that) rather than a "real action" on the ground with consequences.

In other words, no one at the UNSC will be truly minded to take any action of any kind to stop this thing happening in Berberra other than to "verbally nod" with the usual and the "endless resolution" from the UNSC saying all should respect Somalia's integrity. Which is mere words not actions.

And watch these politically naive folks in Villa Somalia making a mountain out of that molehill of "verbal pronouncement" from the UNSC, as if this august outfit will henceforth actually "proceed to put its political boots on" and then stop anything happening in the Berberra port by the UAE. It will be a sight to behold so thoroughly, indeed.

When was the last time the warnout geberish "territorial integrity, sovereignty" written on anywhere from the UN? The last one I can recall is dated from 2004. The official International Community's position is for the issue between Hargeisa and Mogadishu resolved between themselves. In fact, our friends from Europe have been very vocal in their special relationship with Hargeisa.

I do not believe they will even get that warnout phrase at all.

The best they can get out of this is for the UN to re-interrate the need for the talks to commence at earliest as possible to settle the issue.

Watch this space.

This is not about DP World or UAE. It is about the agreement between DP World and UAE directly with Hargeisa. This is what causing all the weeping in Villa AMISom.

Somalia has urged the United Nations Security Council to take action against the construction of a United Arab Emirates (UAE) military base in Somaliland.

Speaking at the Security Council on Tuesday, Abukar Osman, Somalia's ambassador to the UN, said the agreement between Somaliland and the UAE to establish the base in the port city of Berbera is a "clear violation of international law".

Osman also called on the Security Council to "take the necessary steps" to "put an end to these actions".

"The Federal Government of Somalia strongly condemns these blatant violations, and reaffirms that it will take the necessary measures deriving from its primary responsibility to defend the inviolability of the sovereignty and the unity of Somalia," he added.

Somalia Amb to the U.N. @AbukarOsman1 tells Security Council that the military base UAE is building in Berbera is “in clear violation of international law”, calls on UNSC Security Council to “take the necessary steps”.

The UAE began construction of the base last year, under an agreement with officials in Somaliland, a northern region of Somalia that self-declared independence from the latter in 1991 following a civil war.

Earlier this month, the UAE said it would train Somaliland security forces, including the police and the military, as part of the deal.

The UAE is simultaneously investing in developing the port itself, which is strategically located close to Yemen, where UAE troops have been fighting as part of a Saudi-led military coalition against Houthi rebels since 2015.

DP World, the world's fourth largest port operator based in Dubai, said in 2016 it would invest as much as $442m to develop the Berbera port. The deal also includes the government of Ethiopia, which took a 19 percent stake in the port.

Osman's statements come after Somalia's parliament voted to ban DP World from operating in the country and rejected the development venture.

Somaliland, however, said the vote would not impact the agreement.

DP World has been facing several problems in its contracts in the region. Last month, neighbouring Djibouti terminated its deal with the company to run a container terminal.

The government of Djibouti said that the contract to run the Doraleh Container Terminal (DCT) between the two parties was damaging the sovereignty of the country.

Where is that right where kenya is concerned?  Farmaajo literally begged kenya to postpone, the building of the fence. And we have people trying to make him into a hero who stopped the wall.

Allow muu nin H block ahaada. I can already picture the headlines.

'H block president is happy to hand somali land to Kenya'.

'H block president made a deal with kenya to sell D Block land'.

'H block president conspiring with kenya against D block'

Unparallelled Hypocrisy.

Things are not black or white, there is no H or D, there is SOMALIS and SOMALIA.

Is shufo saar, walaal, everything does NOT revolve around H or D or Durayada. It is all in your head.

Cheeseman is playing to Somaliland's tune. There is absolutely no win for Villa AMISom in this. It will only bloster Somaliland into the world stage which exactly the intention here.
