Jacpher,

If you ever find the time to read this book, please post a review. Somali people shall never wish away the atrocities that destroyed their state.

This book is for the non-Somali eye. Somali people know each other and they very well are aware of the recent history. They don't need a foreigner to recite it to them.

For every event documented in this book, there are tens if not hundreds of counter events from the opposite narrative.

Suldaan,

Agreed Somalis are tough nut to crack with facts but I reckon the destruction of Hargeysa & Burco in 1980s and the massacre in Mogadishu in 1990s can hardly be countered with empty slogan of past political grievances.

This book is a fair commentary on that latter significant event. It is a valuable record of how communal strife that pitted neighbors and acquaintances against the very people they knew and grew up with shaped Somalia as a country.

One hopes you stand by with your statement if the book was about what happened in North Somalia!

I agree with Suldaanka as well. Books such as these will serve well to showcase the brutal history of 1991-1993 and the attempted genocide that took place with many massacres. AUN to all the dead.

Create Hassan Sheekh post so we can discuss the shortcomings of our president (if that is your angle ).

Why create a new thread when it's clear your aims for this one was to have a dig at the man's clannish tendencies? Now how do you reconcile that with everything else, saaxib? ;)
