Hargeysa, Somaliland, (SL Times) – Somaliland Minister of Information, Mr Ahmed Abdi Habsade, revealed that the government had transferred the matter of the much-awaited new radio Hargeysa to the contracts committee, and that whoever wins the tender competition will get the contract to import the radio.

The information minister, along with a large delegation, had spent a month in Las Anod, and the Somali language newspaper Haatuf interviewed him about the situation in Sool region as well as other matters. Regarding the efforts to find drinking water, he explained that the water rig that was working on drilling for water in Las Anod had broken down on the job, and they are trying to get another rig.

Mr Habsade conceded that there are shortcomings in Sool’s administration, but he stressed that the government has done a lot. Concerning the security situation in Las Anod, he said there is an on-going investigation, and when it is over, the results will be known. He added that the statement released recently in Las Anod is nil and void and was rejected by Sool elders and intellectuals.

Habsade also welcomed the recommendation of the political parties committee that allows the formation of new parties.

The projected cost of the radio was included in Somaliland government 2011 budget, and that is why people are asking what happened to it.
