Career Planning

Baarakallahu feeki, I was quite moved by your dilemma, you are well on your way taking lifes "live tests" barely before tying the knot. I feel sorry for the brothaz on this board who are biting their figernails, but InhaAllah, Allah will bless them with other sources of kindness ( Hanaan).

Your decision to get married is right, dont look back, and pursuing medicine as a woman is a great sacrifice and a life long mission to relieve the pain of the sick, and Kurbah, likewise Allah will relieve your Kurbah in the day of Judgement.

Although phyisicians make a lots of money, their lifelong dedication, long work hours and pressure on their families take a toll, without a solid purpose, and conviction, it is difficult to chose it over other fun and less demanding careers. There is an acute shortge in Muslim communities of female OB-gynecologots and paediatricians, if you volunteer to study medicine for that purpose, you would be in state of worship Ibadah eight hours a day in adddition to your regular worship of Allah.

As for your question about family planning, before we answer this question let us have a look at the Shaaric's ( Lawmaker, Allah) qasd (intention) from these laws.

The Sharia ( Jurisprudence)is made to protect

1. The Faith. (Al Deen)

2. The Sanctity of Human life

3. The Sanctity of Human dignity

4. The sanctity of human property

The Caqeedah ( Guides the Sharia) in terms of:

1. Source of Rizq ( sustnance)

2. Source of Happiness ( Sacaadah)

3. Source of Satisfaction and fulfillment ( Redaa ul nafs)

Based on the above:

Marriage is the union of two souls, and bodies to celebrate life and thus faith, which is the worship of Allah. The Qasd (Driver and intention) from marriage is first and foremost procreation, so each and everyone of us relays the torch of life to heirs to keep the planet populated for the worship of Allah.

Mariage planning considering the above logic is reenforcing the Qasd, since spawning a child every 9 months can produce a result opposite to the the Sharias intention and moral of the law that encourages procreation.

Therefore we consider family planning as an aiding option and only from that point of view, not from fear of poverty ( King of Brunei has 4 wives and 30 Billion dollars, and some Somali couples with no children cant make ends meet, husband is away earning money and wife is waiting!)

So, Family planning can be slippery if we are not careful.

1. Contraceptives without spermicide are analoguous to CAZL (Withdrawal)concept in Islam, it is pemissible.

2. Diaphram is Questionable ( Shubha)

3. The pill is a health risk in addition to its being a greater Shubhaa if not outright haraam.

4. Bio-Rhythem, fertlity cycle management through tempteture detection is by far the best.

Wallahu Aclam.

After years of studying (various fields of western sciences), I have decided to be a donkey farmer. As I wrote in another thread, I find the donkey a fascinating animal that has a role to play in keeping somalis and other africans survive in harsh environments. I want to embark on animal husbandary; donkey farming (create a nurturing environment, breed it and sell it); camel herding (commercialise camel produce); have a ranch for sheep/goats that could be exported, and a farm to produce maize, millet, sorghum and other crops. Insha allah, my ranch would also have a maize mill.

All the above dreams would be realized on garamgaramland come 2006.

I have other plans; for example to market Sambouzas and Xalwa (just as they do in western countries with cheese).

If you want to invest in this daring endeavor (the yields are socially, culturally and economic wise rewarding), please PM me.

An important dream (perhaps lead to a career in future) is to learn the meaning of the quran in somali and to be able to recite as they do in garamgaramland (special sound, distinct etc). I have asked a somali macalim here to help me and next week insha allah, I would start saying alif waxmaleh, ba hoskaale). No books, here the focus is on the loox and the qad.

Before embarking on a pseudo-Fatwa on yout aspirations of club wielding crowd fighting Mulim police woman and a female version of a Cofe Anan, let us look at the our religions vision for life on earth, afterwards we would have to allign our endeavors to aid our faith, not like other faiths who are made to follow the whis of their nominal followers.

Unlike how they say, "a woman's place is in the House, and the Senate" , Our faith, Islam divides roles for the sexes by assigning men to do the most physically demanding jobs, while women do the most mentally demanding jobs.

Most successful men in history are like parrots, they only repeat what their mothers taught them as kids, ( If we exclude George Bush Senior, who made a mistake by saying that he wouldnt eat his Broccoli since he is the President of the most powerful Biological Colony Known as USA_)

So, since men and women have different roles in society, Women wi do well in areas that require emotional intelligence ( which most men lack) while men excel in problem solving skills ( since they are responsible creating them in the first place).

So, if your passion for joining the police force is based on a desire to enforce the law, As a woman you can raise a good citizen who willl not have to be policed, because the answer fro rising crime is not more police and prisons, rather more family values and faith which you can volunteer to do as a mother, and the more good citizens you can raise the better.

As for Wiilo

The UN is the most corrupt organization on earth, they consume the most resources that were earmarked for the poor, in the news, while hundreds of Iraqi kids were dying during the Embargo, Kofe Anan s realtives and friends were making millions in kickbacks managing the Bic Mac for Oil Program in which Iraq oil was being stolen Ali Baba style. So, if you want to help the disadvantaged people around the world consider becoming like the Muslim vesrion of Mother Theresa".

For starters, this Summer you go to Somalia, help with sanitation, childcare, education of Somalis, you set up your own " Wiilo Benevelonce Center" and let Nomads know which Xawaalad to send their contribution for your work, so that 90% of the procedes reaches the needy people, women and children ( The UN delivers less than 15 cents for everydollar they spend on their phony programs, the rest goes to maintain their extravagant lifestyle)

I am not good for sure, but it is interesting that women would marry a man mostly for his intelligence and common sense, while men would marry a woman mostly for her looks, that says a lot about Somali women in particular, most Xaliimos are more responsible and smarter that most Faaraxs, because due to the civil war there is an acute shortage of sane men, to match increasingly sophisticated Somali girls who are challenging the Somali man in every field, not mentioning their solo accomplishment of making the Hijaab afact to live with in the western world, Somali men on the other hand are in bad shape, there are not many intelligent men left around, which makes average men like me shine, here is the breakdown of somali men:

30% Somali elligible Male bachelors died in the civil war.

40% are either physically or mentally challenged.

20% are halucinated with tribalism

5% are Qaat Addicts

3% good men are too timid to ask to marry highly qualified women, so they plan to marry girls who live in Qurac Dheer Baadiye.

2% good men are available in the marriage pool

That was scary imaginary breakdown, but you get the idea.

I must fisrt say that I really do admire nur's threads and I normaly read can I also say that I 110% agree with bother nur analaytical arugment of women's role in society as foundation on which good society is build upon. but as wiilo singutre says "With respect to the perception of truth, disagreement is an ancient phenomenon in the intellectual history of mankind:" I, however, disagree with him that women's rule is only confined on the area of risng good kids, that is thier primary role in socity and modelling of kids and shaping of their behaviour. but that is not only the role women should play in our modern society ( modern socity in terms of both socially and technologically) as we properly all know our religone forbidded a man to be alone with unrelated women, in toda's socity men is not only the criminals their are women crimnal as well and if we do not have a very specilaised and well trained policewomen who can privately and pulicaly investigate women's crime we will find ourselves in wrong side becuase that will mean ( lack of police women) man dealing with criminal women and that is not the islamic way. secondly let is not forget islam has all it's followers the same rights and same obligations, for example islam obligates all muslims to seek knowledge regardless of gender or sex. islam obligate all muslim to perform salat hajj zakat regardless of sex, and that ,in my opinion show man and woman interconnected responsiblities to make societies better.

Saif bro.

I am by no means against womens participation of Police force, law enforcement, medicine, and all other professions that aid in the development of a healthy Muslim society.

My advice reflects Wilo's situation of a Muslim woman residing outside of a Muslim society that enforced law as prescribed by Islam.

The problem as I see is that in her circumstance, as a Muslim female police officer in a western setting, she would have to deal with male drug pushers, pimps and all kind of wierd persuations in this ultra liberal society. As such, she would have to compromise a lot of her beliefs for the job, hence my objection.

But, if she would volunteer her services as a police woman in Somalia, Somaliland, Riverineland, puntland or Somaliaonline, her services can be of great help if she does it forn the sake of promoting good and fighting in evil in society.

SIS WILO,

this may sound very controversial, but I think alot of Arab traditions and taqaalid has influenced or or infiltered into the text o hadith and history f muslim, today there are manay countries in muslim world notably guldf states Afghanistan and other prevent woment from playing a postive role in development of theri societies on the bases that women should only be the princess of her kids and house, of course they are not claiming that what they are doing is tradition but instead they claim to be strictly following the quran and sunah, and supriningly some culamah had issued fatwas of that kind.

now was that what prophet mohame (PBUH) preached, didn't islam liberated women fromthe shackles of jahiyah? wasn't islam( from adam to prophet mohamed) the first religone in the world that recongised the equality of human being regardless of gender? look all the ayah that preach muslim and you will find it using general terms like :"ya ayuhaladina aamanuu", "almu, minuun wal muaminaat bacdhuhum min bacdh" terms like that show how islam creates closely associated and interconnected of sharing responsiblities between men and women.women fought beside the prophet, prophet consulted with his wifes and acted upon their advised ( according to sunis )now,if afterall that someone come simple idea that women can not be leaders of muslim nations, they can not be politician , they can not hold puplic offices I will simply regard that claim as ill-understanding of islam.islam is religone for everynations and consolidates all cultures and taqaalid unless contradictory to islam. women participated in the spreading th hadith ( we all know how Aisha and hafsa tuaght the sahab alot of ahdiths) women participated in mediating peace process between sahabs. no where in holy quran was women described as second citizen!!!! in contaroray they women had beenpraised . for example suratul saba,a tells us about the leadership of that extraordernary women who lead her nation to islam. quran tells about the history of prophet musa's mother and her carrouge, quaran talks about marry and so on and so forth. of course women should take care of children but that is mens responsiblity too.today we somalis best now what women stands for, when many many men turn to be khat-chewers women shouldred the famly responsility and provided means of live for alot of familites. I really do get anoyed when so many so called salafiyahs called for woment to stay their homes claiming it is the best for interrest of moslim nations. where did that come from?

of course let them stay at home if they are not needed but the fact is they are neede and needed greatly.

now wiilo I do not know how will such job will be beficially to muslims but one thing is clear as long as there are no objections as long the job is befecial to you to muslim you can take it.if muslim man do take it then why not women, mohamed elbraci is heade of EAIAE he is Egyptian moslim

Saif

Some interesting post, the topic has drifted away from its designated Suitable careers of Muslim women to the age old argument of differeing points of view of permissibility of women to work outside of her home, which in its own rights requires a separate treatment, inshAllah I will launch a page for that soon.

But I agree with you on allowing women to govern Somalia, men failed big, as Allah says If we can not find men worthy of the trust, then couple of wise women would do the job right.

Wiilo For President

Simply The Best for Prime Minister

Whadayaknow? may be if we allow women to govern Somalia our country may become as developed as Finland, a nation entirely run by women, Finland has the best education system, the most transparent government ( Corruption free ) , you see women are not well known for taking kick backs like greedy men.

So, Saif bro, let us step back and let our women guide our nation since we men have failed.

I like to see candidates like sister Maymoonah, Raxmah and Raxiimah running our country, instead of those bozos, what a collection of funny characters have the Ethiopians chosen for us as representative body, of course over a steaming dish of Injeera and Zigni meal.
