Unidentified Planes In Somaliland Night Skies

Recommended Posts

Xargaga

An unidentified number of aircraft flew over Hargeisa, Somaliland several times at around 10 pm last night according to Somaliland's OGAAL newspaper. The paper reported that Somaliland's minister of Transportation, Mr. Ali Mohamed Waranadde confirmed the existence of the unidentified aircraft circling around the skies of Hargeisa at around 10 pm local time. The noise of the plane, flying in a medium to low altitude awoke the city residents as the plane continued to circle over the city several times for nearly an hour.

Mr Waranadde said the aviation authorities tried to contact the plane or planes but did not get any response. The authorities were also unable to identify the number or the type of planes that flew over the city. The aircraft did not display blinking lights and were invisible in the dark skies over the city. Residents of other cities including Burao and Sheikh to the east of Hargeisa, also reported hearing similar unidentified planes flying over their cities and hour earlier.

All scheduled civilian flights to and from Somaliland airports take place during the daylight hours since non of the airports is equipped with proper equipment and runways capable of handling night flights. Some people speculated, since there are no regular scheduled flights at night and these aircraft did not identify themselves, they belonged to the U.S. military based in nearby Djibouti and could have been on a mission to survey specific locations in Somaliland cities.

Somaliland which declared independence from Somalia in 1991 is not recognized by any country.

I wonder what the US is up to now?

It must have been a tricky situation for the defence ministry of Somaliland, do you shot the plane down, or turn a blind eye..choice ,choice, choice..

the aviation authorities tried to contact the plane or planes but did not get any response.

They didn't get response mainly because this is how the authorities started with their main contact with the aircraft:

"is dhiib waryee, hawadan waa hawadeydi, is dhiib hadii kale suug baan kula dhici iyo taransate waan ku qarxin awoowgaa dab la gu shidye maxaad soo doontey xiliggan"

am not saying the authorities are unable to communicate in English, but in English, it would even look like funnier I guess:

"This is Somaliland, may-day may-day, this is Somaliland speaking, get out will ye"

PS: By the way, Ogaal Newspaper reports strange and unheard news all the time, maybe they are right this time!

It’s either America or Ethiopia, either ways Somalis are being walked on each day, disrespected and look down upon.

Sadly Somaliland can’t do anything about this. … I tell you people unity equals POWER

^^^ Wisdom_Seeker, Can you imagine how much money UK or any other country charges for its airspace to be used by aircrafts, the figures are in BILLIONS a year, if we had a good government and peaceful Somalia, with that huge land and airspace, we don't even need any resources from the Indian ocean or from inland resources, that airspace charges will feed us all, cirroole iyo carruurba ma aysan qadeen, calooshaa noo buuxsami laheed.

Somalis are only 10 million and are greedy to the bone. And I thought Indians were greedy. Other than the airport, there are plenty of countries who wish to use our seaports. That would generate another billion dollars. But Somalis like other Africans aren’t intelligent enough to succeed or go for what’s in the best interest of their nation or people. They are hell bend over tribe and clan.

It isn’t about government but the people. Even they can’t show some forbearance and compassion to themselves.

Lol @ Nuune and Geeljire,

As far as legitimacy is concerned, The whole Somalia airspace belongs to the TFG. it is the only the legally recongnised government in the region.
