Islam in Somali History Fact and Fiction revisited ,the Arab factor

Recommended Posts

The days of Cushite/Hemetic and Afro-Asiatic labels are numbered and Dr Mukhtar and his likes are dangerous in one aspect and that is their suffix Dr/Proff/Historians qualifies their rubbish to be taught in universities and self perpetuate itself.

The scope of my short essay is not an account of early Islam in Somalia nor is it a comparative study of Zayla and Mogadishu, its a simple awakening call for so called Somali specialist to cease the old speculative theories on the origin of some Somali clans and concede the historical record and unique history of every clan, there was no such a thing as 'Somalis' during early Islamic times

no modern Somali clan considered himself 'Somali' as late as one century ago

Che, what is your take on this? You once suggested that Somalis should take a DNA test to find out a genealogical/ancestral of their clan origins and what not, wonder if you indeed took that test? loolz. Anyway, the author seems to be rebuffing Dr. Mukhtar's essay and his take on northern Somalis origins. I haven't seen Dr. Mukhtar's piece, but it sure be about another clan x origin, false pride, shrine this and that, and what not. We are tired of this and I don't really know why we are still pre-accupied with the past. If we could only leave that dotted and doubted history of ours behind and look forward to the future, then and only then will we... will we become nation of one.

^It's all about politics. It has nothing to do with exploring Somali origins or reaffirming our history. The funny thing is the author of this piece accusing Mukhtar of the same things he is dabbling in laakin the both get something in common that's to undo the common identity we share as Somalis.

I think I read some his stuff in a book and the author seemed to have a grude against Northern Somalis; he seemd to be out to pain them to be uncultured nomads and liars who fabricated their ancestors. Mukhtar is entering the same type of North vs South nonsnee, yet he does have strong poing when it comes to Western Scholars not understanding the importance Oral culture. It's as if they can't believe something that is not written down on Text. He also has point when it comes them ignoring Arabic sources, SOmali oral culture, whilst settling and promoting terms from the neo-colonial era such as Kushitic, Hamtiica and Negroids.
