Selling goats

Abdu Nur Osman

I go to an internet cafe for about five hours every day. It’s my second office.

I export livestock such as sheep, goats, fish and camels to Dubai. I am sending invoices to my customers by e-mail, which is much quicker than the phone and you can include more details.

We are planning to have the internet in our office soon.

Money transfer

Ifrah Abdullahi Hassan

I’m setting up a new e-mail account for my brother.

I’m also checking if my brother in the US has sent me some money, which he does from time to time.

If he has, I will go and collect it from a money transfer company.

I'm a student but I want to go and join him in the USA next year.

Green activist

Ali

I come here for one hour every day, except Fridays, to find out what is going on in the world.

I’m an environmental activist but we can’t afford to get an internet connection in our office, so we come here to work and to do research.

Medical research

Sadia Hassan Mohammed

I am a nurse at Bannadir Hospital. I have come to check my e-mails.

I mostly use e-mail to contact people abroad but sometimes friends here in Mogadishu as well.

Sometimes, I find some interesting new research about nursing, medicines or mid-wifery on the internet. Then I print it out and take it back to the hospital.

Banana technology

Ismael Mohammed Omar

I only found out about the internet three years ago through my son who is in the USA.

I used to work in the ministry of agriculture.

Now I’m writing a book about how to grow bananas, which used to be one of our big exports.

I found a new way of growing bananas by searching on the internet.

World news

Najib Isse Dirrie

I’ve come here to contact my family who live in Kenya, Pakistan and London.

I am studying at Bannadir University in Mogadishu, so sometimes I use the internet to do research, although we also have an internet cafe on the campus.

I also like to find out the news from the world.

I come to an internet cafe twice a week.
