Somalia’s president travels to Libya: official

TRIPOLI, Libya Nov 17 (Garowe Online) - The president of Somalia's interim government has traveled to Libya on a previously undisclosed trip, a government official has said.

President Abdullahi Yusuf, who flew Monday from the Kenyan capital Nairobi, was accompanied by a number of lawmakers to Tripoli, Libya.

Abdikarin Ugas, the Somali ambassador in Tripoli, told the BBC Somali Service that President Yusuf was officially invited by Col. Muammar Qadafi, the Libyan leader.

The Somali president was warmly received in Tripoli by embassy and Libyan government officials, the Ambassador added.

It is not clear why President Yusuf traveled to Libya, but the trip comes at a time of tense relations between the President and his Prime Minister, Nur "Adde" Hassan Hussein. READ: PM defiantly appoints new Cabinet

Prime Minister Nur Adde has defied the President's decision to dismiss the entire government, including the Prime Minister himself, after the two highest-ranking government officials disagreed over the formation of a new Cabinet.

Meanwhile, Islamist rebels have gradually re-captured territory in central and southern Somalia the group controlled in 2006, when Ethiopian troops dislodged the Islamists from power in Mogadishu.

One government insider told Garowe Online that President Yusuf is expected to return to the Somali capital after the Libya trip, adding: "He might declare a state of emergency in the country."

^^^lool. First of all, we have been here before, second of all the Al Shabaab unlike the red army have never faced the TFG in battle and won.

They have defeated Hiiraale in Kismayu and IndaCade in Marka. Both anti TFG and clan leaders who were thorns in the side of the government.

A government can not fight a clan, but it can an international terror group.

Thus the greatest problem for the TFG is internal, its the incompetence and friction within.

Deal with this and there is no problem.

Adeer Oodweyne , the hour that is approaching is a political one in terms of the first term which will end in 2009. Other than that the idea that the opposition have any capacity other than terror is laughable, look at Iraq the insurgency which was much better equipped motivated and tougher has largely died down.

As for the Tripoli trip and the ones to Kampala and London. It shows the President has options and is using them as this time, the Ethiopians have become quite stuck and unimaginative. The point here is Mr secessionist you are again harking back to your old arguments, while Somaliland has become another region for Al Shabaab to toy with and in fact their latest attacks in Hargays has been most devastating outside Mogadishu. And yet after two weeks you have no clues and no answers and are hushing away the whole episode pretending it did not take place.

Now we confront our problems you guys seem to try to talk them away.

The Duke was remonded of an old quote I heard once..

"From the moment I picked up your book until I laid it down, I was convulsed with laughter. Some day I intend reading it."

:D Usual baseless waffle from Mr Oodweyne, adeer the TFG is still here and you have been humouring us all through the last four years.
