Jacpher Posted June 9, 2007 Here we go again. Another female circumcision thread. SOL has its fair share of these topics, one or two every year and almost all end up in some sort of xagxagasho. As I was zooming through youtube, I found a link about Amina & Ruqiya’s circumcision. I can only say they’re two very strong young girls to have endured such a horrible horrible operation in dirin in the middle of a dusty room in the hands of old-school ayeeyo with sakiin. Very scary. I thought at least the setting would have been a little different given today's technological advances and what Somalis have gone through over the years? Hal bacaad lagu lisay! Some of these videos are so disturbing, terrifying, shocking, never-racking, and blood-boiling that I jumped up and almost knocked my pc and spilled the coffee. I have yet to understand why someone would youtube such videos for the public to see. Since I didn't see the entirety of the clip, I'm not gonna post it. You may find it there. link removed Here's another shocking video I found in SOL archive. removed [ June 09, 2007, 09:06 AM: Message edited by: sheherazade ]

-Serenity- Posted June 9, 2007 OMG! Watching or posting this sort of material is no better than watching some1's hands get chopped off, or legs, or eyes poked out(with a fork). Its barbaric and totally unsuitable for viewing on any platform, by any audience. Someone remove this topic please.
sheherazade Posted June 9, 2007 Jimcaale, I leave this topic open but saw no justififable reason to leave the links available for viewing. I saw an old woman ask for mat to be put down and really after having heard her views on the matter already I wasn't expecting to see a sensitive potrayal of her opinion. I didn't watch it further and will trust Kool_Kat's, Serenity's and your reaction on the videos to make my decision. Gruesome voyeurism has no place here. Jacpher Posted June 9, 2007 ^Censorship badanaa. Caku yaa bog bilcaan ka taliso usoo martiyi jiray? While I understand the removal of the clip containing the shocking image which I think still is in SOL archive, I don't get why you took out the other clip with the discussion unless aad ayeeyo iska dhex aragtay? Let ayeeyo speak of her mind. It's her views, not yours. Maa caleesh! Ser Kill the messenger! Got serenity?
sheherazade Posted June 9, 2007 I thought your intention was for us to see 'Ayeyo's' clip(in which she voiced her opinion)- which I did- and to then click on the related link- which I also did- and that this was the one which contained the scene. You wanted us to find it through another link. Same same, dear. I had no problem hearing the old woman's opinion, seeing her brutalise a girl was another matter. Kool_Kat Posted June 10, 2007 I still can not get the second girl's face...OMG I just can not stop thinking of them every minute, ever since viewing it...

rudy-Diiriye Posted June 10, 2007 these videos are posted by somali activist women. i never watch them, but its so sad why would any body wanna this to their daughters. mostly though, its arranged by moms these days.. i heard this from many xalimoos who had this done. some where even tricked to trips to somalia so this could be done to them. so xalimoos if mom overs a free ticket! just say thnx and pass it. Biixi Posted June 10, 2007 Puting a video on naked under aged girls is against the law(I'm not a lawyer). What purpose does it serve? The only thing it does it reinforce few people's recist/backward views of Africa.
-Lily- Posted June 11, 2007 Whilst I would never have the stomach to watch such videos, I think it should be shown to mothers considering doing this to their girls, it’s the most horrific betrayal of all.

Sheh, You should have left that video there. It might be shocking but it's educational. Besides, it was merely a link (as I understand). People had the choice to click on it or not. sheherazade Posted June 11, 2007 Ngonge, did you watch the video? I understand there was a choice given but I doubt those for him this would truly be educational would be browsing these forums. I had the choice to leave it or delete it, I erred on the side of caution.
NGONGE Posted June 12, 2007 ^^ Shock and awe, my dear, shock and awe! Personally, and naturally of course, I am not in support of FGM. However, I'd wager my life's savings that reading or talking about it does not touch me (and affect me) as much as it would a female. A video clip of the deed being done would certainly send the message home though (for me and any passer-by that would shake his head at this topic and think it tiresome). Having said that, I accept the argument of the Nomad that questioned the legality of such a video clip and the fact that it might be considered child porn. You were right to err on the side of caution I guess. Do you always land on your feet in such a way or does your buttered side get smudged every once in a while?
