Have You Ever Felt This Way Before?

I am a picture painted over another

a simple creation an image of myself

no one's discovered the painting below

so they offer me no help whatsoever

my eyes are painted brightly

and a gleam of happiness reflects

you would by no means imagine

there is a sadness there to detect

my smile is always an everlasting

always there and will forever be

it hides the experiences untold

and helps others to accept me

I'm bold and vivacious in public

my painting shows no fear at all

and my eyes are dry as they could get

as if they've never shed one single drop of tear

but it's what happens in the darkness

that unveils the hidden painting unfound

my eyes become a river at night

when no one is lurking around

there is a fear under the oil painting

of my vicious dreams, losing my friends

fear of the life I chose to lead

and losing my precious love in the end

when alone I carry no smile on my face

it gets lost in the silence of the dark night

and everyday the inner painting seeps through

and the lost painting is finally in sight

when the look in my eyes is real

and my fake smile is the truth

I looked at my surroundings

and where was the one who promised to always be there

Where were you?

Peace, Love & Unity.

Everybody wears a mask at any given time in their life, it's just that some wear it more so than other because they feel as though they have to portray something they are not or they might not know what they are. Basically one can't stay true to themselves all the time.

when alone I carry no smile on my face

it gets lost in the silence of the dark night

and everyday the inner painting seeps through

and the lost painting is finally in sight

when the look in my eyes is real

and my fake smile is the truth

Those lines are deep like 3D. I love the simplicity of this piece though the message it carries isn't simple. I think it is one of your best poems Bob.
