Thank you MandeeQ, what a poem that was...

Traped again is my loving soul

left to be with no control

With temptations i can't resist

and Desires i seems to evict!

Are those i eagerly treasure

Hoping to bring me more pleasure

My heart in fear palpitates

For what love tommorow might hold

If I fall inlove through the net!

Will I be left with a broken heart?

I chanelled my love to out of space

Falling for lover without no face

Strange how our souls do communicate

How near she is dispite the distance

Imagine this..

A vast land without a government

Entire people without a president

Teenagers who can't read the alphabet

Elders so many but corupt and ignorant

Gagged poets who are lost in thought

Hope is gone, it flew away like a bat

Future is so bleak and full of fright

The rivers are deep full of blood clot

The brains are blank all they do is fight

Walls are wailing now relief has to start

Nature is cursing, trees weep as we cut

The souls we've lost are too many to count

The battle is lost the warlords are fat

Don't you think it is time to stop and start?

All of My Heart...

There's so much I want to

say to you, but no words

seem strong enough

to express the depth

of what I feel for you.

I can only say

that all of my life

I've looked for

someone like you.

I wanted to share my

life with someone who's

kind,

affectionate,

intelligent,

passionate,

responsible,

caring,

easy-going,

considerate,

generous,

determined,

and hard-working.

I've dreamed of someone

who loves animals,

children,

romantic strolls beneath

the moonlight, and

long lazy nights

before the fire.

I wanted someone who

has a good heart

and cares about others,

someone who's willing to

go that extra mile for

someone who's in need.

You're all of these

things and so much more,

and I'm overjoyed that

you're part of my life.

And though I care about you more

than words could ever say,

I'll say it anyway...

I love you

with all of my heart

and to the very depth

of my soul.

Asallamu Caleykum W.W.

Yaa Sallaam! Well, I have been away from this forum for a while, and I can see that I missed some rather interesting arguments. Any way, I have the following scintillating poem, and would like to share it with you. For it has been authored by Maryan Abdi Mohamed after she had scrutinized over the endless Somali plight during her vacation on our beloved country, Somalia.

" Somalia "

-----------

Taxanaha waayuhu waxay ifka iyo uumiyahaguudsaaranba kaga tagaan markay

weydaartaan raad aan si fudud u baabi'in.

daranba. Tixda hoos ku xusan oo la yidhaahdo "Soomaaliya" waxa curisay abwaanad Soomaaliyeed oo dalkeeda hooyo ku dhaxday oo keliya in ka yar laba toddobaad.

Dulucda ay Maryan Cabdi Maxamed dhiibanayso iyo tawaawaca, cabashada,xusuusta murugtay iyo rajada laalanba ruuxba siduu maansada ugala soo bixikaraa waa tab isaga hurran.

Somalia.......Somalia.......Somalia.......

I have met you briefly only once

Bu I liked the way you were

Even though you were already showing wrinkly signs

I wish I could see you again in better shape

Bu things are different now

How can I meet you again ?

I wonder how you are

You have been through a lot since I met you last

You have been raped, mugged, turned upside down

Your belly has been ripped wide open

And your organs have been sold at auctions

For less than a shilling

And yet you survived

No plastic surgery could repair the damage

People from the East and the West came to rescue you

The wanted to reconcile your children

But they were so obstinate

The visitors had to abandon you

But how can I help you ?

I feel so hopeless

My heart bleeds for you

For what your children have done to you

How can they be so ungrateful to their mother ?

It is not your fault if you had so many husbands

And your children had to be from different fathers

Born from Queen Africa

You were once one of the most beautiful African princesses

I wonder what your siblings think of you now

Some of them are in a similar position as you

Why have you all been allowed to be in such a state ?

Most of your children have deserted you

To different corners of the world

Will they ever remember your history ?

Will your grandchildren be able to retell those memories ?

I heard some of your children came back to visit you

They say some your limbs are gradually healing

But your scars will be forever rooted

A reminder to your children of their greatest upheaval

Nowadays, people from the East and West remember you less

Some say that it is better for your wounds to heal by themselves

As antibiotics do not always work

Others think that cosmetic surgery might help to fade some of your scars

But who knows what best to prescribe

May be one day,

Your children from the East or West or South or North

Will find a miracle remedy for your wounds

I hope it will not be too late

For I fear you might be already dying slowly

To somalis

The fate our people is too hard to fathom

Transcending the depth of all thoughful brains

I fear our slither will give birth to doom

More death and cry won't achieve the freedom

Like the Gog we are digging into more sorrow

Hoping to cry no more and smile tommorrow

But expect never ever to witness that day

When all is still and souls are ready to pray

Superstition, and arrogant clan traditions

of Filthy elders are these deaths attribution

So can i be blamed, for crying louder than a crow

Warn the danger, of those sipping our souls with a strow

I wish my words were like precious stones to bestow

To nourish the hearts of my people, whose esteem is so low

Drop the guns

Let go this scum uncle, let go this gun brother

Don't plan more war uncle, Don't kill more lives brother

I can't beg and be calm but I

I can cry to supress the pain till you stop

Axmed Ismaaciil Diiriye "Qaasin" Gabay Macaan iyo Qadhaadh iyo tarjumadii Andrzejewski.

Macaan iyo Qadhaadh

Axmed Ismaaciil Diiriye [Qaasin], 1965

Dacartuba mar bay malab dhashaa, muudsataa dhabaqe.

Waxaan ahay macaan iyo qadhaadh, meel ku wada yaalle.

Midigtaydiyo bidixdaydu waa, labo mataanoode;

Midi waa martida soora iyo, maato daadihise;

Midna waa middiyo xiirayiyo, mur iyo deebaaqe.

Masalooyin talantaalliyaan, maandhe leeyahaye;

Mar baan ahay muddeec camalsanoo, maagista aqoone;

Marna macangag laayaan ahoo, miiggan baan ahaye.

Mar baan ahay muftiga reerkiyo, mudanow shiikhiiye;

Marna mukhawi waashoo khamriga, miista baan ahaye.

Mar baan ahay murtiyo baanisaba, madaxda reeraaye;

Oy weliba muuno iyo dulqaad, igu majeertaane;

Marna reer magaal loofaroon, muuqan baan ahaye.

Mar baan ahay nin xaaran maqdac ah, marin jidiinkiise;

Marna tuug mu'diya baan ahoo, maal Rasuul bixine.

Mar baan ahay maqaan awliyaad, maqaddinkoodiiye;

Marna mudanka shayddaanka iyo, maal jin baan ahaye.

Mar baan ahay nin midabaynayoo, maalinbays roga'e;

Muuqaygu gelinkiiba waa, muunad gooniya'e;

Miisaanna ima saari karo, qof i maleeyaaye.

Muslinkiyo gaalada dirkaba, waan micne aqaane

Malaa'iigta Naartiyo Jannada, waygu murantaaye.

Mahadhooyin kala kaan ahoo, la igu maansheeyey

Maahmaahahaan soo dulmaray, doqoni waa mooge;

Ninkii maalmo badan soo jiraye, madaxu boosaystay

Ee inan rag miisaami jirey, wuu i maan garane.

Nin kastaw halkii kula macaan ay, muhato laabtaadu

Ee aanad madadaaladeed, igala maarmaynnin

Iska soo mar waa kuu mubaax, marinkaad doonto'e!

Bitter and Sweet

ranslated by, B. W. Andrzejewski with Sheila Andrzejewski, 1993

Consider the aloe - how bitter is its taste!

Yet sometimes there wells up a sap so sweet

That it seems like honey in your mouth.

Side by side the sweet and bitter run

Just as they do, my friends, in me,

As I switch from sweet to bitter

And back to sweet again.

My two hands, right and left, are twins.

One twin gives food to strangers and to guests,

It sustains the weak and guides them.

But the other is a slashing, cutting knife -

As sharp to the taste as myrrh,

As bitter as the aloe.

Do not suppose I am the kind of man

Who walks along one path, and that path only.

I go one way, and seem a reasonable man,

I provoke no one, I have the best of natures -

I go another, and I'm obstinate and bold,

Striking out at others without cause.

Sometimes I seem a learned man of God

Who retreats in ascetic zeal to a seclude sanctuary -

I turn again and I'm a crazy libertine,

Sneakily snatching whatever I can get.

I am counted as one of the elders of the clan,

Esteemed for my wisdom, tact and skill in argument,

But within me there dwells a mere townee, too -

A no-good layabout he is, at that.

I'm a man whose gullet will allow no passage

For food that believers are forbidden to eat,

And yet I'm a pernicious, hardened thief -

The property of even the Prophet himself

Would not be safe from me.

I have my place among the holy saints,

I am one of the foremost of their leaders,

But at times I hold high rank in Satan's retinue,

And then my lords and masters are the jinns.

It's no good trying to weigh me up -

I can't be balanced on a pair of scales.

From this day to that my very colour changes -

Nay, I'm a man whose aspect alters

As morning turns to evening

And back once more to morning.

Muslims and infidels - I know their minds

And understand them through and through.

"He's ours!" the angels of Hell proclaim of me

"No, ours!" the angels of Heaven protest.

I have, then, all these striking qualities

Which no one can ignore -

But who can really know my mind?

Only a grey-head who has lived for many days

And learned to measure what men are worth.

And now, my friends, each man of you -

If either of the paths I follow

Takes your fancy and delights your heart,

Or even if you cannot bear to lose

The entertainment I provide,

Then come to me along the path -

You're free to make a choice!

:cool: very philosophical poem, in my opinion the best during the Somalia as state 1960-1990.

"My right hand and left hand are twins:

One entertains the guests and walks the weak;

The other is daggers dripping woes & wormwood."

Ex-Playa, i must agree with you that thepoem you posted is one hell of a poem. I've interest in reading this poem, i read it sometime ago in somali and it is magnificent. I also read the poem translated in English, ofcourse, by Gosh(Adrowiski) himself. The bit i quoted amazed me alot, still it does, and also the bitterness and the sweetness that parralel each other.

Here is the poem i read...it may have a different words from th one you posted by still the meaning remains the same.
