Maximus Powers' Short Film Collection

This is a very interesting short contemporary French short film about single people and finding true love in this world. It was set in the underground railway transport system in France, giving an urban atmosphere, which influences the mood of the film. The soundtrack also lent a sad, longing feeling to the rest of the film.

This short documentary offers a unique and intimate perspective into the thoughts of a Moroccan imam and his wife as they discuss their romance. They describe their thoughts about how to build a deep, trusting, and enduring relationship in this film that shows the specific ways the Islamic faith relates to the universal concepts of love and respect.

I watched The Visitor a couple of years ago and thought it was bloody good. It is very strong on the connection between disparate individuals on a more human level.

However I was very touched by the first short film from France. I though the ending was very sad. Apparently it’s the same here in Britain, there are more and more people looking for ‘love’ and instead finding a life of solitude, because they are searching for something that doesn’t really exist.

People today have such a distorted view of what to expect from a relationship, partly shaped by the media and the Hollywood normalisation of what to expect from a partner. So there are allot of people holding out for that special one. But i for one don’t believe in that fairytale. Human beings are capable of loving more than just that ‘special one’. What they fail to realise is that love doesn’t just happen, sure you can have an irrational longing for someone, but true love i believe has to be worked on. It’s a partnership between a man and women, built on understanding and intellectual intimacy and most importantly accepting each other’s faults and working on how to help resolve them together. Patience is the key. You’ll soon find that you will become used to the physical attraction and the physical intimacy of the early days. However if you combine them with the rest then you’ll find yourself god willing in a partnership with many golden years.

Honey Trap

Honey Trap is dark story of betrayal and murder is an exercise in the art of seduction with a passionate and unexpected turn.

In the darkest corner of the most beautiful countryside, sibling rivalry becomes bloody and clumsy violence.

'Brotherly Love' tells the story of Jack and Tobias, two forty-something brothers who have shared everything in life - including Dolores Hart - the local villages' former beauty queen. Although the former is further ago than she would care to admit. When others would toss a coin or arm wrestle, Jack and Tobias method of solving a dispute is altogether more bloody and bloody ridiculous.

Problems arise when a conservative old man walks into the same lift as a 15-year-old girl who likes to play loud music from her mobile phone.

The usually stereotype of a black person is dispelled in this clip. I was most interested in the way, the people reacted to the black guy.

A battered woman finds her soul mate in a most unusual manner in this drama from Korean filmmaker Kim Ki-Duk. Tae-suk (Jae Hee Song) is a young drifter who appears to be homeless by inclination as much as necessity; he squats in the homes of strangers while they're away, carefully seeing to it that no damage is done to the property and sometimes performing small household chores as a display of gratitude. One day, Tae-suk sneaks into a house where a number of photos of a beautiful model adorn the walls. After eating, washing up, and doing some minor repairs, Tae-suk discovers he's being watched by the woman of the house, Sun-hwa (Lee Seung-yeon), and he soon recognizes her as the model in the photos. However, Tae-suk sees that Sun-hwa has been badly bruised, and suspects she's been the victim of domestic violence. When Tae-suk returns to the home later that evening, his suspicions are confirmed as he sees Sun-hwa being slapped around by her husband, Min-kyo (Gweon Hyeok-ho). Tae-suk impulsively bursts into the house, grabs a golf club, and attacks Min-kyo with it; moments later, Tae-suk and Sun-hwa ride away together on his scooter, and she silently joins him in his existence as a squatter, which slowly blossoms into a love affair. Bin-Jip (aka 3-Iron) received its North American premiere at the 2004 Toronto Film Festival. -
