  1. ^ Have another go Miyir, what are you trying to say?

Wadani, anyone can be an atheist or be as liberal as they like but I would have thought people have the decency not to take the mick out of religion and religious practises and then think it's funny. I find that very depressing, as we become more and more like the majority of those we live amongst and hold nothing sacred and above ridicule.

  2. Why do you prefer 3D Alpha, you have to give a reason.

Okay, how would I rate Marx, could you not have said ANYTHING else in the world Marx apart from yourself.

Anyway I would say SOL's unofficial member of 2012 is interesting and makes SOL a more fun place to be.

hmmm....an evening with a close friend or an evening with a group of friends?

Anyhow i suggest that fellow SOLers be very careful about mocking the diin. It is one thing for us to commit the sin of shaking hands with the opposite sex but a completely different ball game to make fun of the religion.

Could not have said it better, it's shocking to see so many people think it's okay to take the mick.

  4. Ok game time SOLers. Answer the question explaining your choice then leave a choice for the next person to complete. You can write three options if you want.

    Would you rather see:

    A 3D film or a 2D film?

  5. ^ I was bitten by a dog as a child, bloody monster dug it's teeth into my right thigh, I still remember my dad trying to explain to the policeman that the owner had dreadlocks, through lots of hand movements. :) anyway now I just stare dogs in the face, they know I am a survivor.

Being pushed really is everyone's nightmare. :( And to be pushed because the crazy person thought you were muslim.

  6. Awww, Coofle may Allah bless your union sounds like you're besotted. :)

Wyre, try not to be bitter, it wasn't mearnt to be, and you don't know how it would have turned out if it did go ahead. I am sure there are many more fine somali ladies in the kingdom.

2012 was a chilled out year for me alhamdulliah, found a much nicer, less pressurised job and this helped me get my life back yaaay.

2013, some loose ends to tie up then I need to start thinking about leaving the UK behind.

  7. I don't think I have ever come across Mooge but congrats, speech, speech! No don't worry you've already made it.

I agree with Khadafi, unofficial (lunatic) erm, no winner has to be Alpha.

  8. ^ really enjoyed this too, the humour was great and came in unexpected places, I don't remember the book being that funny. The part when the boy was discovering the religions was hilarious, ending with 'I would like to be baptised!" The only let down I think is that when the boy was telling the alternative story at the end, it would have been better if that part was acted out instead of leaving us to imagine it, that's kinda an important part.

    Really well made though.

  9. Morning ppl, 2013 sounds a bit creepy to me, I will wait till March until I can relax in it.

*Juxa put those scales somewhere very high that they are likely to fall from by accident at some point. There should be a softer way to tell women how much they weigh. Maybe through a range like you are between 8 and 13 stone, don't worry about the specifics. :)

  10. I continue a reading a book if it's written beautifully or if I feel there is some "truth" to it (whether it's Bridget Jones or some Nobel prize for literature winning novel) so I'd say any writer to hold the reader's attention has to be talented or experienced first wherever they may be from. The advantage the Non-English writers have is a door into a different culture and like you said many have used this experience and knowledge of their own culture to write memorable books. Two books to add to your reading if you get a chance

Chimamanda Ngozi, Half of a yellow sun. Set amidst the 1960s civil war in Nigeria and the struggle to create an independent state.

Naguib Mahfouz, Palace of Desire (the first in a trilogy) This massive read is set in 1920s Egypt and is all about the comings and goings of a well to do, very conservative family, a book that you will find so much to delight in.

  11. Ng the morning was beautiful in a grey and drizzly way. pls don't me my good mood, they don't happen very often and always take me by surprise add well as making me a little suspicious!

  12. Bel Canto Ann Patchett

The Looming Tower al Qaeda and the Road to 9/11 Lawrence Wright

Loved this amazingly well written book about the rise of Al Qaeda and the lead up to 9/11.

Really did not like We need to talk about Kevin. Very long and not an easy read.

  13. ^ Well better late than never I guess. To be on the safe side, pm your debit card details, (including the security code) for me to erm, verify your details, then I can let everyone know you really are a brand new member.

  14. ^ It means an old member assuming a new identity and pretending to be someone else. As there has been a lot of it in the past, when there is a flurry of new members everyone wonders if any of them are scripts, i.e. someone basically having two accounts and two identities. Now are you a script? :)
