  1. ^^^ Its a work in progress and thank you.
  2. Muhammad, You believe it should start with the people who attend these mosques to make the change. I agree with you but it is hard when you are faced with confusion and non-management. Coming from NA, we have bodies such as ISNA and MAS that tell us important dates in the Islamic calender (which by the way I disagree cause they always seem to screw up Ramadhan and Eid, making US not part of the Ummah) and organize conferences. Shouldn't these bodies therefore have an infrastructure mapped out for mosques to follow when setting up?

This means as long as indigenous/native self-knowledge is neglected, the mind with the help of foreign knowledge lives and acts in pretence with little progress or growth. Bravo The epoch of original thinkers is over. All you have to do is look at the movie theatres and notice the amount of remakes and sequels.
  4. I haven't started a thread for a while so here goes Recently during a conversation during the Holy month of Ramadhan at the masjid something struck my heart's chords.I thought I might bring it up and see what the nomads in this bit of cyberworld think about it. We all have a connection with our masjid but when reality sets in most of us visit the building for prayers on occasion. Speaking about the people in the west some of us don't have the time to drive to the mosque for any prayers and might even miss the all important Salatul Jamaaca, but majority of us try to perform this daunting task each week and succeed. I am not going to speak about the spiritual side of the masjid though........I know better than that now, come on. What I do want to discuss is the masjid as a resource center. Masjids are spiritual houses and we go there to strengthen our connection with the Ummah and Allah. What if the masjid uses surpassed this? What if you as a sister could walk into your Imam's office and talk to him like you would a counselor? In the days of Propher Muhammad (S.A.W) he was constantly asked for his opinion and take on matters from mundane to complicated. Most of the masjids in our communities don't have an imam there available for the Ummah. If I have an issue I either consult a brother and hope he seeks guidance from the Imam or try to ambush the Imam on his way out. What if the Masjid helped with after school programs? No not dugsi but programs to instill communal work into the youth. The reason most muslims are misunderstood in the west, apart from media having a hand in it, is because muslims tend to segregate themselves from the community. We live in these communities and hence should play a role in them. There are other resources that come to mind and I will mention a few more like job searching, house searching, car pooling, workshops, adult education. I mean the list is endless. Here is the kicker that most of you have already in your head. Why should the masjid bother to provide these resources when the government does it so darn well? For immigrants which most of us started as its hard to intergrate into society and the first thing that we look for is similarity albeit familiarity. The local masjid was my first port of call when I moved to a different town for school and I felt at home. I got in touch with muslims around the community who helped me out bigtime and now I like this hicky town to bits. What y'all think?
  5. Nimeandika mimi. Why you asking?
  6. ^^^^hate going to the publics loos huh? What does an alien have to do to be a nomad?
  7. Oi.........and what do you mean by visiting the masjid.  I go there for spiritual purposes though sometimes I joke if I can't find the right person on da outside I would definately consult the local Imam for tips. T: Waryaa fiiri noh .....maskaxda hanugiciyaarin.**I stop there** I was just being helpful. I'll try not to step on your toes next time Big Boi. Wun!
  8. ^^^ Don't draw me into the arguement. I was a spectator. I think the term is used almost like how you would use the term habibti/hayati/pumpkin. There was no strings attached to it when it was used around me so.............that said, you should ask T what he meant cause he said a lame mermaid And frankly I haven't seen many of those. As to the topic (sowwie poster I didn't mean to go on a tangent). There are many things I personally disagree with but religiously agree with. With that I will hold my tongue or finger whichever
  9. Don't ask don't tell Dressed in my comfy jeans and a hooded jacket, I silently slid my abaya over my body. Looking myself in the mirror I knew I looked like any other person out there but my heart was burning a hole in my clothes. I mused as I stared out the window, the night looked ominous and dark. Taking my satchel I walked out of the building. My footsteps resounding loudly on the gravel as I kept to the middle of the street. I walked with false authority. Should I make it through this charade, I would definitely turn a leaf and take up a vocation that my family asked of me. My eyes feel on him. He was leaning against this shack with just the light off his pipe illuminating his dark eyes when he puffed on it. Dressed in all black he gave off a dangerous scent that drew me in. I walked by him and with precision he fell in step with me as I turned the corner of Hoboken and Rice. Me: Are you sure this will work? Other: We worked it out in your favor. Me: You mean your favor. I don’t have time to mince words just so you know if this goes South I am coming for you. Other: **chuckles** Deal. Me: The equipment? Other: Should be in your room as we speak. Me: I guess this is it. I hope I don’t see you again. I will leave the package at the drop off as discussed. I turned another corner and he kept going. Pretty soon he blended in with the night and I couldn’t tell which way he went. Taking a deep breath I walked towards the bridge. I needed time to think things through. Alter-ego: You are late! Me: I am early; you never gave me an appointment. Alter-ego: I have much to tell you. Come on. As the sound of the waves hit the banks I found that the story I was living was as twisted as the streets in Rwanda.
  10. Dad used to call all his lil girls that............It means mermaid if memory serves me right. Don't hold me responsible for the words coming out of my laptop

  12. First thing that comes to my mind is can I have another five minutes, unless of course I am travelling in which case I jump up at once. If you could be the other gender for a day what would be the first thing you would do?

Ouch............The pacers and Miami game was unfairly called in the third quarter. Ref was spoiling the flo not to mention calling fouls that didn't happen. My teams for the season are Detriooooooooooooooooit Ball and Cavaliers. D is still a great team and they are off to a great beginning, hopefully it will be a 5-0 streak by tonite.Like you said Layzie its early in da season. Ps: Lakers got beat by MN now that was a suprise dis early in da season.
  14. Jaylaani: TO and DC kulaha.........I don't think so. We already had that combination before. No Thank you. As for the Panthers I see a glitch. They concentrate too much on two particular guys when running plays. If its receiving they utilize smith and on the other hand on rushing plays guess who? Stephen Davis. Its working so far but its bound to get dodgy soon. I might see Colts Vs Giants......Manning vs Manning now that would be a game.
  15. I think Brad is making smart plays as a QB. I rather prefer him heading the vikings even though they won't get anywhere. My predications are for NY giants and Bengals. I rather fancy those two teams. Manning has being on point;so far so good. Suprised that philly first off decides to utilize the throwing game and now have tension in the ranks. TO is turning out to be another Randy Moss. I agree with the suspension people are forgetting what team work is. Should be interesting with this weeks line up though. Giants against Viks and Philly against cowboys. Will the colts continue their winning streak? they are 8-0 at the moment. Can't wait
  16. ^^^ Smart Alec no wonder I revere you. Now true hypothetically East, West and North all contain marital consequences but there is reason to my madness. South has got to be complete opposite because you end up backtracking. Hence forgetting everything you've built together, while the others you take the next logical step in your ladder. That being said we are talking conjecture here. My answer to your Query would be East because .......... oh u can fill in the blanks can't you?
  17. ^^^ maybe I used to be one ! Nah being a tomboy and still going strong I just deduced even with cramps, monthlies, hormones, childbirth and mood swings, we come out on top. **please don't burst my bubble**
  18. Seriously... Ms Word, Guess I see your point. Will think of an answer after I finish eating my fish curry Ngonge, You my dear sir made me laugh. Can I say too much Tv watching on your part. Plus here is a hint : **gets close to Ngonge's ears** "Thats not what you said when I broached up the subject......matter fact you said give it time" I wouldn't want to think you give strangers different advice from the ones you give friends. Silence, First off separate truth from suppositions. Ok now about the throwing away of our culture don't you think you are going overboard. O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allaah is that (believer) who has taqwa (i.e. is one of the muttaqeen – the pious). Verily Allaah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.†[al-Hujuraat 49:13] Our tradition does have some importance for it stems from human division.
