Shabakad budhcad ah oo loo yaqaan fadhi ku dhereg oo lacag muddooyinkii u dambeeyay sifo khiyaamo ah kagaga urursanaysay dad badan oo ka mid ah bulshada reer Hargeysa, ayaa la waayay meel ay jaan iyo cidhib dhigeen. Lacagtaas oo uu cadadeedku aad u badnaa laguna qiyaasayo boqolaal kun oo dollar, waxa ururinaysay haweenay wakiil u ahayd kooxdaas budhcadda ah oo la sheegay in saldhigoodu yahay dalka Imaaraadka Carabta, waxaana marka uu qofku lacag u geeyo uu bil kasta ka helayay lacag ku jaan go'an hadba cadadka uu dhigtay, taas oo dad badan hunguri gelisay. Haweenaydan oo iyadu ahayd wakiilka ay lacagtu ku soo ururto ayaa la sheegay in habeen hore laga waayay magaalada Hargeysa, waxaanay dad badan oo gadoodsani shalay ilaa xalay tagayeen gurigeeda Hargeysa, laakiin ma jirto cid ka haysa wax war ah oo la xidhiidha halka ay ku dambaysay, waxase la sheegayaa inay magaalada ka baxday. Haweenaydani waxay gudaha Hargeysa ku lahayd dad kale oo wakiilo u ah oo lacagta u soo ururiya, laakiin haweenkaas qudhooda ayay khiyaamaysay oo ay kala baxsatay xoolihii ay u dhiibeen, waxaana hadda isku jiq ah dadkii lacagta lagala baxsaday iyo wakiiladii ay lacagtooda u dhiibeen. Qaar ka mid ah haweekaas wakiilada u ahaa gabadhaas ayaa xalay Wargeyska Geeska Afrika u sheegay inaanay ogayn meel ay haweenaydaasi ku dambaysay. "Waxaanu ku war helnay iyadoo aan joogin magaalada, dadkii lacagta noo dhiibtayna annagii ayay na haystaan." Sidaas waxa tidhi haweenay ka mid ahayd wakiilada ay gabadhani lacagta kala baxsatay, oo codsatay in aan magaceeda la xusin. Waxana jira warar sheegaya in xubno ka mid ah wakiiladan iyagana la la'yahay, kuwaas oo loo malaynayo inay iyaguna la baxsadeen lacagtaas. Sidoo kale mid ka mid ah dadka lacagtiisa lala baxsaday ayaa isagoo xalay Geeska Afrika u waramay waxa uu yidhi, "Ma garanayno meel ay ku dambaysay, waxaanu ku war helnay wakiiladii oo iyadii raadinaya, waxaanay u muuqataa in lacagtaasi galbtay." Dadka lacagta ku aaminay kooxahan, ayaa la sheegay inay isugu jiraan dad xaraashay guryahooda, kuwo jagooyin iibiyay, kuwo dahabkoodii faasaxay iyo kuwo ku kallifay in ehelkooda oo dibadda joogaa inay lacag u soo diraan, waxaanay dhammaantood ujeedoodu ahayd inay si fudud u taajiraan. Marka uu qofku lacagtiisa dhiibo lama siinayo wax aqoonsi ah oo caddaynaya in lacag cadadkaas leeg laga hayo, sidoo kale looma sheegayo waxa lagu qabanayo, wax damaanad ahna lama siinayo. Inkastoo ay culimada waaweyn ee Somaliland in badan ka digeen sifaha sharci iyo in sifahan macaamil yahay mid xaaraan ah, haddana dadweynaha lacagta lagala goostay waxa ay baaqyadaas culimada ka furaysteen dhegaha, waxaanay hadda ku jiraan xaalad is ciil kaambi ah, iyagoon war iyo wacaal toona ka hayn halka ay lacagtoodu ku dambaysay. Magaalada Hargeysa ayaa tan iyo markii uu soo baxay warkaas dhiilada lihi waxa guryo badan laga dareemayay xaalad murugo ah, waxaana tan iyo xalay xaafadaha Hargeysa qaar ka mid ah gaaf wareegayay dad badan oo ka mid ahaa kuwa lacagtooda waayay. Sifahan ay kooxdan budhcadda ahi ku dhacday lacagta tirada badan ayaa la sheegay inuu yahay mashruuc lagu soo tijaabiyay dalal kale oo markii lacagtii lagaga urursaday lagala goostay, waxaana la sheegay in qisooyinkan oo kale ay ka dhaceen wadamada Kenya, Somaliya iyo Imaaraadka Carabta. Dhinaca kale Sheekh Maxamed Macalin Cabdi (Carab) oo ka mid ah culimada Somaliland oo xalay nagu soo booqday xarunta Geeska Afrika, ayaa ka hadlay haweenaydan la waayay, waxaanu yidhi, nagu soo booqday xarunta Geeska Afrika, ayaa ka hadlay haweenaydan la waayay, waxaanu yidhi, "Walaalayaal in badan baryahan waxa inagu soo noqnoqnayay wax ay dadku ku sheegayeen inay yihiin (Share), culimadu markii ay baadhay waxay ogaatay in noocaa lacagta loo ururinayaa aanay ahayn shay banaan oo ay tahay ribbo ah oo dadka lagu dhacayo, inay tahay lacag dulsaar ah dadkan waxa la siinayaa oo lacagtoodii laga siinayo iyo lacag booba oo dadka lacagtoodii iyo hantidoodii baadil iyo xaaraam lagu qaadanayo." Sheekh Carab, waxa uu intaas raaciyay, "Walaalayaal Culimadu way digtay oo in badan ayay warbaahinta, Masaajiida iyo garoomada ka sheegtay oo culimadu way cadaysay oo fadwooyin badana way ka baxisay in lacagta noocaa lagu guranayaa ay tahay xaaraam wayna uga digtay in dadku lacagtooda ay ka daystaan. Haddaba waxa soo baxaya in lacagtii la dhacay oo qofkii guranayay baxsaday, taasina waa tii aanu ka digaynay. Waxa loo baahan yahay in qofka muslimka ahi uu garaad yeesho, qof 10,000 doolar ku dhiibaya gidaar oo aan damiin iyo damaanad iyo heshiis midnaaan lahayn oo uu hadhow u raacayo, caqliga Saliimka ahi wax shay uu ogolaan karo maaha, diinta Islaamkunam ogolo lacagtaa gidaarka lagu dhiibayo. Qofkuna haddii uu isagu jeebkiisii dhacayo cid celin kartaa ma jirto, waanuna u sheegnay Booliska, waxayna noo sheegeen in ay iyagu isku dayeen inay wax ka qabtaan, laakiin qof isagii wixiisii la ordaya oo la guura galaya cidna kama waardiyaynayso. Hantidaasina waxa ka masuul ah qofkii qaatay oo lagu leeyahay."

Sheikh, 19 February 2009 (Somalilandpress) — Construction has started on what is expected to be a luxury holiday gateway to Somaliland for Kuwait’s ultra-rich royal family, the Al-Sabah. The site is east of the mountainous city of Sheikh and is estimated to cover an area of 25 square kilometers (roughly 6100 acres) and will cost more than $3 million to construct the perfect gateway for Kuwait’s royals - it will have it’s own airport, helicopter pad, malls, swimming pools and luxury villas. The luxury complex is been constructed by a local Somaliland firm - it has provided it’s own engineers, work force and materials. Building luxury villas, airport and complex malls for the royal family will give great boost to little known Somaliland construction companies. The construction is expected to be completed end of 2009. Ethnically and Racially Biased Words and Phrases
Jacaylbaro replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in General
It is still a biased words behind a closed doors ...... -
which one ???
-
Words used to describe people of an ethnic or a racial group should be chosen carefully. A sensitive approach involves more than just eliminating obvious slurs, which are, of course, inappropriate in all spoken or written English. It also requires that you consider the perspective of the group described and try as much as possible to represent its members as they want to be represented. The following guidelines are tools to help you avoid inadvertently using terms or labels for ethnic and racial groups that could be considered offensive. Do not mention a person’s ethnicity or race unless it is relevant Before citing a person’s race or ethnicity, ask yourself if there is a reason that your readers need to know this information. If there is not, omit the reference. Offensive: The board includes eight CEOs, one black lawyer, and one Jewish entrepreneur. Better: The board includes eight CEOs, one lawyer, and one entrepreneur. Be as specific as possible Avoid using a term that includes a broad range of peoples if you are talking only about a specific group. For instance, do not label a group as Asian if it includes only Laotians or as Hispanic Americans if it is made up entirely of Mexican Americans. Use the more specific name instead. Use the name the group itself uses It is always preferable to describe an ethnic or a racial group by the term its members use. If the term is widely unfamiliar and your document is for a large audience, you may choose to note in parentheses the name by which the group is more generally known. The Diné (also known as the Navajo) have the largest population of any Native American tribe. Do not use dated terms Some terms that were commonly used in the past to refer to American racial or ethnic groups are now considered at best old-fashioned and at worst offensive. The list below notes the terms that are now most widely accepted as well as ones that should no longer be used. People of African ancestry: African Americans and blacks (with a lowercased b) are generally acceptable, although each has its critics. Afro-Americans is not likely to offend, but it has so fallen out of use that it is inappropriate in most contexts. Negro and colored should be avoided. Native peoples of North America: Native Americans and American Indians are both considered acceptable terms and may be used interchangeably. (Keep in mind, though, that some people are uncomfortable with both of these phrases.) Wherever possible, use the names of specific tribes or groups in place of these general terms. In Canada, the terms natives, Natives, and native peoples are common, but these are too unfamiliar in the United States for use in documents intended for an exclusively American audience. People of Asian ancestry: Asian Americans, although not offensive, is often criticized for being too general. Wherever possible, use instead a more specific term such as Japanese Americans or Vietnamese Americans. Do not use Oriental or Asiatic, both of which are now considered derogatory; use Asian instead. Spanish-speaking peoples of Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America: Hispanic Americans is usually acceptable, but use a more specific term (e.g., Haitian Americans) if appropriate. Some groups prefer the term Latino to Hispanic in referring to people of Latin American ancestry. Chicano is sometimes used as a synonym for Mexican American, but you should use the term only with extreme caution. It is considered an ethnic slur by many people. Re-examine accepted expressions Stereotypes lurk in some common and seemingly harmless phrases that refer to specific ethnic and racial groups. For instance, Indian giver, Dutch courage, and welsher are still used without thought to the negative qualities they ascribe to American Indians, the Dutch, and the Welsh. The stereotypes suggested by these phrases may be largely forgotten (does anyone now consider Wales to have more than its share of swindlers?); even so, they are still offensive and, therefore, should not appear in informal or formal writing.

Somaliland, the British Somaliland Protectorate, was under British rule for almost a century. British Somaliland as it was called is incorporated most of what is identified as Maakhir, Puntland, and Somaliland. We gained our independence as the STATE OF SOMALILAND on June 26, 1960, and after a few days we were hijacked by a small of group of people into the darkest history and events that we have experienced up to the present day. Despite of a century of British rule, for some reason, the British never tried to develop the country and left it as it was before the colony with little enlightenment and infrastructure. I do not go into details of the whole history before and after British colony, nevertheless, I would like to emphasize the present and the future. It has never happened in the world that a colonized country for that long period of time to be left without development of the basic needs and infrastructure. What is even worse happened during the years ending 1991, the year of the fall of the dictator. I would like to recall the unfortunate premeditated economic war against us, and worst of all, the brain drain, the suppression, and the theft of resources and neglect of the infrastructure. Let me begin with the economic disaster. It started with the establishment of the nationalization of the banks and other institutions and the transfer of trade licenses to the capital, Mogadisho. The import process and applications were moved to Mogadisho and this created the business people to move to the capital. Jobs in private sector also moved with them. The only port, Berbera port, was almost deserted. Private business in Somaliland was completely stagnant and inexistent. Roads which were paved by the British became valleys and waterways. Travelling between cities became time consuming and dangerous. Communication was almost insignificant. Electricity was a commodity. Worst of all was the brain drain. We had no universities and colleges. Those of us who graduated from the few high schools in Somaliland were going to Mogadisho for higher education and in search for jobs. Landing in Universities, colleges, or jobs was a luxury and hardly to get it. Returning to Somaliland was out of question because no businesses and no jobs were available in the northern cities. Jobs, businesses, and higher education were all centralized and run from the capital and within Southern regions of Somalia. NGOs as they were called were government run agencies. These agencies were responsible for the poverty and business and brain exportation from the Somaliland. All decision making became centralized in the capital. The Somalilanders who either graduate from a university or a college were given jobs in the South and very few of us were able to return to Somaliland. The Somalilanders who were government employees including teachers were all transferred to South and replaced by some unknown, cruel, and selfish people from the South. This has resulted in the abuse of power and suppression which in turn caused the flight of the majority of Somalilanders from the country and the fight for independence. The effect of the abuse of power, the loss of human resources, and the businesses was so profound that the Somaliland people could not resist longer and rose against the government. The brave men and women who formed the SNM and fought in order to end the indiscriminate raids, bombing campaigns, and abuses are the ones who will be seen as liberators. After the liberation of Somaliland from the crib of the Dictator and his army, negotiations started among the Somalilanders. The first conference as I recall, occurred in Borama where the politicians and elders from the tribes held a meeting of reconciliation and cessation of hostilities among Somaliland tribes. The late Abdirahaman Tuur was the first president of Somaliland. Mohamed Hajji Ibrahim Egal was appointed as his successor on May 16, 1993 by the Grand Conference of National Reconciliation in Borama, which met for four months and led to gradual improvement in security. Egal was re-appointed in 1997, and remained in power until his death on May 3, 2002. The vice president, Dahir Rayaale Kaahin was sworn in as president shortly afterwards, and in 2003, Kaahin became the first Somaliland president to be elected in a free and fair election. Today Somaliland is independent, peaceful, and secure. The Somaliland army along with the Somaliland Police Force are ready to make sure that our young democracy is save from foreign and internal intervention. Businesses are flourishing, telecommunications has grown, basic necessities are coming back, and jobs are gradually coming to life. Even though we have reached a point of no return from being a nation, there are many obstacles ahead. One of them is the expected pressure from Somalia if the hostilities there subside and the ongoing negotiations take root and lead to peace. The United Nations sees our intentions and our success. The whole world recognizes our struggle for our hard sought independence. They view as an exemplary and would like to recognize us as a nation, however, there are other forces and circumstances contrary to our intentions. The fact the international communities are reluctant to recognize us, the recognition itself is our hands and in our unity for that cause. No one can stand against the wishes of our people, but we have to realize that in order to get our wishes, there should be a lot of sacrifices from all individuals and clans. We have to put aside our differences and self ambitions and travel together peacefully towards realization of our independence. Our independence depends on how much each clan swallows its pride and majority attitude. There are a lot of arguments among us and some of us are enemies to our cause but we need to be aware of our sacrifices and history. Some of the recent political activities in Hargeisa are ominous. Some individuals forgot our agenda and creating unnecessary fight among the political parties. We need a healthy campaign with wisely thought agenda for our nation and people by avoiding divide- and- rules attitudes and let us remind ourselves that wisdom always prevails. Fair and peaceful elections are our mile stone for our recognition. It seems that some of the politicians are adamant to be elected by all means necessary but with this kind of fight we all lose and the new born independence we are striving for will evaporate and go with wind. The stakes which we are going to face are high and depend on the success or failure of the Somali Peace Negotiations. Any future president and government of Somaliland will face numerous challenges ahead and should be aware of the thorny issues: Will Somaliland be brought into Somalia? Where the initial proposal will start and who will initiate? We know for sure that there will be no direct talks between our head of state and his government and those of Somalia. Does the international community will listen to them? How can we convince the international community of our agenda and determination for sovereignty? The answer to all those questions lies in our peoples determination and right of freedom and their unanimity on one cause. Our political parties are campaigning for power and the presidency, but it seems some of the parties are playing on fire and dividing the people along tribes and neglecting the whole issues surrounding our independence and how it will be gained. We can be divided on policies and agendas along party lines, but we cannot afford tribal parties and corrupt politics and politicians. Peaceful campaigns and well thought agendas of the parties must be the corner stone of our struggle for independence. How the coming election ends and how handle ourselves will determine our support from the international community towards recognition. The young may not realize how much progress we have made since 1991. We have never had the peace, the freedom, the progress in the infrastructure of the cities and in all dimensions of economy and in politics as well. It is a blessing for all of us that we are thinking of being a nation. Nevertheless, a nation never comes without some sort of individual and collective sacrifices. All Somlilanders must be reminded that our fate is in our hands and every step we take is scrutinized by the International Communities and will be graded on us accordingly. In spite of the fact that we have a flag, a president, a parliament, a senate, universities, an army, we cannot declare: Mission Accomplished. Nobody has recognized us thus far. There are numerous distractions and possibly wars ahead of us, but we can defend our Nation with pride through united front and not through tribal parties and unnecessary propaganda and a divided media.
