Was just trying to show you this comes from both sides regardless of who and who ...... we shouldn't blame a particular gender as it depends on the individuals from both sides. I find it silly when one only one side is blamed ,,,,,

It is obvious that America is running its own interests in the region but we should know that Somaliland has its interest too. It is just a matter of interest and that is the way this world is surviving right now. -

It is time to take the bigger step ,,,, that years have bee successful doesn't mean we should remain in the dark. -
My wife and I were married for 23 years. Within six months she went from knowing nothing of the computer to becoming completely obsessed with the Internet. I guess I was too trusting - she sent gifts to new "friends", staying on the Internet for 8 to 10 hours at a time, rarely spent time with my two sons and I. It turned out she was paying for car sex. She left me and my sons but only after doing as much damage as possible - such as making outrageous remarks to my sons, family members, etc. This experience has been absolutely devastating. I haven't been back to work in 15 months. I'm raising my sons with pride. As a family we're okay but I haven't yet found a way to regain my own spirit. Thanks for your effort to help others. It does feel good to know you are not alone. We got a computer about 1 & 1/2 years ago and then the internet. One of my wifes friends hooked her up to ICQ. I didn't think much of it until she was up half the night chatting. Then she put a Password on ICQ to, "keep the kids off", but she wouldn't tell me the password because I was "invading her privacy". Then one day, I stumbled across stored E-mail, And found some where she talked to a friend about an ICQ buddy who told her he loved her. She then asked her friend not to tell me anything. My suspicions were aroused when I couldn't find the phone bill, but it had been paid. I looked for it and found it hidden in the closet. It had 3 calls to another country on it. Then I noted missing floppies, found those in the same place, and 1 actually had a webcam picture of some guys erect penis on it. I confronted her with the evidence, asked her if she "cybered" and she vehemently denied it. Nothing was resolved, and then I found a jpeg on the computer of her naked. She had taken the picture of herself with a polaroid camera. She sees nothing wrong with what she has done and seems furious that I have "invaded her privacy" and that I am "trying to control her" She has refused to take counseling, but I chose to and learned how not to let my emotions rule my thoughts and actions. We are still together, but there is no trust in the relationship and it is only for economic reasons that we remain together. For many months my wife's use of her laptop has been increasing. She spends more than a 150 hours a month on-line. I know she has been chat cheating and it led to at least 2 physical contacts out of the country. She was foolish enough to save some of her memorable chat sessions on disks and I found them. I have been devastated. We have 2 children 11 & 14 and our entire lives have suffered from this. I confronted her and we have just begun counseling. She still goes online whenever she can so I think I need monitoring software. AND MANY MORE

By Beatrice Hongo CONAKRY, January 5, 2008 – Protesters burned tires and built barricades in the streets of the Guinean capital Conakry after President Lansana Conte dismissed his information minister, in an apparent snub to a consensus prime minister. A presidential decree on Thursday replaced government spokesman Justin Morel Junior a day after he read a statement on state television from Prime Minister Lansana Kouyate which called a New Year’s address by the reclusive Conte a “hoax”. Conte’s address had criticized Kouyate’s track record on fighting corruption and tackling inflation since he was appointed last year to defuse anti-government riots which left more than 100 protesters dead in the West African country. The prime minister’s statement said the presidential address was drafted by “certain elements opposed to change”, in the latest sign of a rift between the premier and entrenched ruling cliques. Reaffirmed confidence Kouyate said he had discussed the address with Conte, who had reaffirmed his confidence in the prime minister. However, the head of the state news agency Issa Conde told Reuters he had received the presidential address directly from the presidency press office. “Mr Issa Conde, previously director of the Guinean Press Agency, is named minister of Communication and New Technologies, replacing Mr. Justin Morel Junior,” read Thursday’s decree. A police source said Kouyate had been urgently summoned to the presidential palace on Wednesday after his statement was broadcast. Junior’s dismissal appeared to be an affront to the authority of Kouyate, who has the right to name and dismiss members of his cabinet under the terms of the deal to end last year’s political disturbances in the world’s largest bauxite exporter. “If Kouyate did not give his agreement to dismiss Junior, he finds himself with his back to the wall,” said political analyst Madani Dia. “It would mark a precedent in his relations with Conte and his only option would be to resign.” In a previous blow to Kouyate’s authority, a December 5 presidential decree reassigned control of government business to Presidency Secretary-General Sam Mamadi Soumah, a close ally of the veteran Conte who has ruled Guinea with an iron fist since seizing power in a military coup in 1984. Witnesses in Conakry saw black smoke rising over one district of the coastal city, while shops in the main Madina market pulled down their shutters. Youths prowled the streets brandishing stones and pieces of wood. “We are not going to accept this decree,” said one demonstrator. “The president does not have the right to dismiss a minister without consulting the prime minister.” Elsewhere in the Horn of Africa, Somali President Abdillahi Yusuf has flown to Ethiopia for medical reasons, a month after suffering from a chest illness that sparked a health scare. The official said Yusuf left Somalia on Thursday. The 73-year-old is a long-surviving liver transplant patient and has for years gone abroad for specialized treatment. “The president was flown to Addis Ababa for medical reasons. He was well dressed and he got on the plane by himself. He was not very ill,” said the official, who declined to be named. “If his condition gets serious, he will be flown to Nairobi where his doctor is staying.” Ethiopian officials confirmed Yusuf’s arrival. The president flew to neighboring Kenya last month where he received treatment for a chest illness. He dismissed reports he was close to death. Aides had attributed the illness to the stress of politics in the Horn of Africa country, where a clan row has prevented Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein’s attempts to form a cabinet. Saying their clans had been snubbed, five ministers quit Hussein’s cabinet in December, forcing him to return to the drawing board. The government official said a new cabinet was expected to be named at the weekend. “I understand Yusuf approved the prime minister’s government and Hussein is expected to announce the nomination of his government on Saturday.” Besides the political infighting, Yusuf’s administration faces a persistent insurgency in Mogadishu, where government soldiers and their Ethiopian military allies are battling Islamist insurgents. In Goma, Congo, intense fighting between government and militia forces in eastern region has led to a surge in rape by fighters from all sides, women and doctors say. Renewed hostilities between the army and troops loyal to renegade Tutsi General Laurent Nkunda have stoked a volatile crucible of violence in Congo’s North Kivu province, where traditional Mai Mai fighters and Rwandan Hutu militia also roam. “I was leaving the market and I ran into FDLR on the road. They robbed me of everything and then four men raped me,” Francoise Mwamasirika, a 45-year-old mother said of Rwandan Hutu rebels who include leaders of Rwanda’s 1994 genocide against Tutsis. Mwamasirika was stunned and barely able to speak when she arrived at a hospital in the South Kivu town of Minova. “I won’t go back,” she said. Sexual violence has escalated as hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to flee the safety of their homes — around 400,000 people since August, when Nkunda quit a peace deal, bringing North Kivu’s displaced population to 800,000. Congo ’s government has called a peace summit for Sunday, but there is little optimism the chronic fighting will end soon. Christophe Kimona, a surgeon at Goma’s Heal Africa hospital, repairs the torn and damaged genitals of rape victims “The number of women we are seeing who have been raped is going up. We see an average of three or four rapes each day,” Kimona said. Source: REUTERS

In May 18 2001 , NBC’s Dr Bob Arnot wrote an article entitled: “An oasis of stability in East Africa: Does Colin Powell have the courage to save Somaliland?” The oasis of stability that Dr Arnot was referring to is Somaliland. In that article, Dr Arnot also makes clear that although saving Somaliland from falling into the anarchy and lawless of Somalia is morally the right thing to do, it is also in the US interests to do so. Unfortunately, Colin Powell did not answer Dr Arnot’s call. Six years later ( 21 November 2007), the Voice of America reported, “The chief U.S. diplomat for Africa, Jendayi Frazer, says it is time for Somali moderates to come forward and work to end chronic violence.” Despite the six years that separates them (and six years is a very very long time in politics) what Colin Powell’s non-response to Bob Arnot and Frazer’s plea have in common, is that both of them have ignored Somaliland, which is the single biggest mistake in US policy toward the Horn of Africa. For if the United States listened to Bob Arnot or the many Western academics, ambassadors, journalists and other intellectuals who have been steadily calling on the Unites States to recognize Somaliland (or at least for the US to raise its engagement with Somaliland to the level of its allies Ethiopia and Britain), Frazer would not have been today searching for Somali moderates, instead, she would have Somaliland as a moderate, democratic ally of Somali ethnicity and with a wealth of experience in solving Somali problems. Still, it is not too late, and the United States has an opportunity to correct these unfortunate mistakes during President Rayale’s visit to Washington this month. Although Somaliland’s long-term goal is to acquire diplomatic recognition from the United States, at minimum, Somalilanders expect from the President’s visit to Washington: The raising of the US level of engagement with Somaliland from its current low level to a higher level that is commensurate with Somaliland’s status as a bulwark of stability, democracy and moderation in a dangerous part of the world. Substantial bilateral assistance to Somaliland, especially in the fields of education, health, transportation and infrastructure. US policymakers should realize (and there are indications that they are beginning to do so) that their failure to meet these modest expectations would undermine not only Somaliland, but all of those Somalis who have shown goodwill toward the United States, and would lend credence to those who argue the US may talk all it wants about a desire to engage Somali moderates, but in reality it has no intention of dealing seriously with Somali moderates. President Dahir Rayale Kahin’s visit is a unique opportunity to show Somali skeptics that the US does want to seriously engage with Somali moderates. Let’s see if the US passes the test. NAIROBI, 10 January 2008 (IRIN) - Civil society organisations in Somalia have urged government-allied forces and insurgents to avoid clashing near camps for displaced civilians, saying such violence creates further displacement. Hundreds of families were caught up in fierce fighting on 8 January between Ethiopian and government forces and insurgents in Dayniile district in the northwestern outskirts of the capital, Mogadishu. The families that were earlier displaced from Mogadishu and sought refuge in Dayniile had to flee again, Asha Sha'ur Ugas, a senior member of Mogadishu's civil society groups, told IRIN. "They fled further into the bush and are now even worse off than they were before," she said on 10 January. Some of the displaced had moved "three to four times already". Not many aid agencies operate in the area due to the security situation in Mogadishu and its environs, making the plight of the displaced families more serious. "Some of the displaced have begun returning to their previous camps but others have gone into the nearby village of Saqiirow," Ugas said. "We are appealing to both sides to stop using the camps as a battleground." An estimated 13,000 families (78,000 people) are camped around the district, with little or no help coming in, according to Haji Omar Ali, the Dayniile district commissioner. The fighting in Dayniile started when Ethiopian troops entered the area to flush out suspected insurgents, said a local source. Abdi Haji Gobdon, a government spokesman, told IRIN that security forces went to Dayniile in response to attacks by insurgents in the area. "A number of attacks targeting security force positions originated from there. That is why the security forces undertook the operation." According to medical sources, up to 20 people, mostly civilians, were killed in the fighting. Sha'ur said the situation of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Dayniile district "was already dire and any more fighting will make it even worse". She appealed to aid agencies to "redouble their efforts to assist and stop making excuses. The people here need help now, not talk about insecurity," she said. The district commissioner said the IDPs were in desperate need of food and shelter. "They have very little food and most lack basic shelter material," he said, adding that the area had not received any significant assistance from "any quarters". Since intense fighting between Ethiopian-backed government troops and insurgents began in February, at least 1,000 people have reportedly been killed and more than 600,000 displaced. Meanwhile, Somalia's interim parliament on 9 January gave a vote of confidence to the new cabinet of Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein. Hussein dismissed his earlier cabinet on 16 December, just three weeks after its formation, in favour of a "small but effective cabinet". The government spokesman told IRIN from the southwestern town of Baidao, the temporary seat of parliament, that the new cabinet would consist of 18 ministers and five deputy ministers, compared with the 73 ministers and their deputies in the previous government.
