  1. Hey Xu, wlc to SOL. aight...here goes: I am... *from MI, USA *Female *A Student of Knowledge *I sing when pple aren't looking...actually I've been caught several times....and I do whatever kinda dance in empty elavators.. *I love to listen to neo-soul the most, jazz, african, middleeastern..even been feelin' Indian music lately, techno, alternative rock, can't stand country or polka music! I'm inlove with ISLAM, so I do whatever it takes to learn more and attend as many conferences as possible...which brings me to the fact that I looveeee to travel! I don't know where my destination will be this yr.....that depends on many things I can't discuss... but am hoping! Thnx for initiating the intro's. Later.
  2. Good watching out Darman... Now we know what you do when ur desperately bored
  3. Assalamu Alaikum girls. I've came across this website a while ago, I personally didnt' get the chance to look into it more....But I think there's something for everyone. I get a kick out of reading the "blog" muslima, it's hilarious.... LOL. anyway, let me know what you think! Adios!
  4. I've posted an event featuring Sh.Hamza a yr. or 2 ago.....and we've had the same discussion. I've never heard him say..I belong to such and such Tasawwuf (sufi) tariqa. And what if he is? He's all of a sudden discredited b'coz he's a sufi? I love Sh. Hamza and I truly believe he's got alot to offer to Muslims and non-Muslims. These are important questions because it seems to me that we can't have differences of opinion within the muslim intellectual arena and tend to label ourselves as "salafi's" or "sufis" ...etc. etc. I've especially noticed this trend among the newly religious youth...I think they get the need to belong to something. Here are my personal opinions....Tasawwuf is part of Islam, if u can't accept that, then u need to do some research. Secondly, I don't think they separate themselves from Ahl al-Sunna wa’l-Jama‘ah, or in other words.....the way of the Sunni path. The rise of sectarianism is due to the fact that a group of pple with a diff. perspective claim that their ideology is the only path that will lead them to paradize and everyone else is false. To me, that's dangerous! I respect any individual who says " Laa Ilaaha Illa laahu, wa Muxamudun Rasuul Laah". We all have something to learn from one another. Lastly, I want you all to reflect on this Ayah: Allah Most High says: "O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion, for in some cases suspicion is a sin. Do not spy [on one another], nor backbite one another. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Surely you would abhor it. Have fear of Allah. He is Relenting, Compassionate" [49:12]
  5. Raula, aren't they just lucky? I know he use to come to Canada once a yr. and tickets would sell out weeks ahead.
  6. Originally posted by OneManGang: Tamina, Come one, nobody in his right mind can wait that long, unless you do what white girls do (sleep around while in college) then seek marriage. [/QB] It seems like someone made you the expert of females...what do you mean we can't hold out for that long without commiting Zina? Then we're no different from other mammals who are hormone driven....got no choice when in "heat" eh? I don't take some things said here personally. Qac Qaac, You know what, why do u feel the need to defend someone's statement? Everyone is responsible for their statement...therefore, u need to stop making excuses for people's ignorant comments...how do u what his real intentions were? He has to clear that up for himself. Exactly why does Darman make u sick? Cuz he challenged a male in this forum? Big blow to the anti-feminists soo maaaha
  7. LOL..the girl is Christian? Man I had 2 skim many posts to know that fact.. *Shakes head*
  8. I'm going to follow my Grandfather's(Ilaahi u naxariisto) advice to my mother 30 some yrs ago " Make something of yourself (education), then get married" B'coz of that, she was the 1st daughter to graduate from Uni and was actually engaged for years while attending uni. b4 settling. My parents believe in education b4 marriage, though they will be supportive if I decide to marry sooner. However, that's not the case with my extended family..lol..but that's O.K. I just have to put with them few times/year. You know what though, I feel sorry for Indo-Pak girls....one of my close pakistani friend is pressured almost daily at the age of 22...I mean let the girl finish her engineering degree. In highschool, all the Indian girls were concerned about their future husbands and type of wedding they had in mind (love marriage vs. arranged). I believe the sisters are intelligent enough to decide for themselves when they're ready to marrry. Marriage is an important phase of one's life and should be taken very seriously.....just hate to see rushed marriages which result in unhappiness. Good luck Rahma!
  9. Masha Allah Kaafi....and u know what, I'm pretty sure you can do something right now to contribute to the greater Ummah. Anyway..if I knew I would not fail..I would try bunjee jumping!! Death is a PHOBIA for me. On the serious note, I think we've all got a fear of something in this world. Mine, probably public speaking! I'd do it if I have to..but I just dread giving speech to more than 100 pple. That's why I decided to join a student org. this year...cuz I know I have to as a VP.
  10. 11. I was hooked for many weeks....best reality show I've seen thus far. I sorta knew Kwame would lose..why? He has one fault.....he absolutely dreads confronting pple. How can u remain non-chalant when that two-faced Omarosa just lied to your face TWICE? Omarosa needed to be checked and Kwame disappointed me. Lets drop the race card Darman...cuz quite frankly am surprised he made it this far..knowing in other shows the black man is out first. I thought the best man won. I'm actually glad its over...now I can get back to studying for finals.
  12. Thnkz...now it'll just be in my head all day long. Love that album!
  13. Sade...having ur loved ones around for b-day is the best gift of all. Happy belated birthday. Also, Rahma and Shenomad...hope ya'll enjoyed urselves. Sorry too broke for gifts...maybe next year?
  14. Mabruuk walaal!! Happy 2 hear the good news.
  15. D.A....ummm u do! on somedays I coulda swore it was earlier than 6am ... U gym fanatic. Qac...hey why must u always involve "those two" into every post u put forth? Besides, it's not fair u continue to label Opinionated and Xquizit as feminists.....runtii hadii la'isku sheegayo.. Anyway..not that I'm condoning it...I go to my uni gym. Ofcourse...I have to adhere to dressing modestly...etc. etc. In the near future I plan on switching to a nearby women's gym Insha Allah.
  16. http://www.p4e.ca/nmc/ Since I know few reverts..I wondered how many of u nomads have friends or know of someone who recently reverted to Islam. I think this would be a gr8 opportunity for them and also for those interested in Islam to come out for this event. ------------------------------------------ SATURDAY APRIL 24, 2004 After Dhuhr until Isha Prayer 'How I became a Muslim & Life in Canada' ADMISSION IS COMPLETELY FREE SYNOPSIS: This event will discuss the process that 7 individuals took to convert to Islam. They will also share their experiences relating to life in Canada as a Muslim. You'll hear about the social, spiritual, political and personal aspects involved in being fully committed to Allah and the principals of their new religion. This will largely be an informative seminar, although there will be a group question and answer period.
  17. Can't remember the last time I went. I'm only interested in weight training..but I have issues with guys dominating that area of the gym. I promised myself I'd go back as soon as this semester ends. But D.A., I can't do the 6:00Am routine...no way in hell! It's enuff I get up for fajr.
  18. http://www.alimprogram.com/programs/isl_home.shtml Insha Allah....one day!! Check out the feedback from some of the participants.
  19. I've had enough of reading posts dedicated to what a Somali woman must adhere to...what her expections should be ..la daa la daa ladaa...especially from the brothers! And have u noticed, everytime a similar threat is created, the same bunch reply? I don't know.... I'm discontent with these ridiculous topics ...actually geared toward percieved feminists on SOL. Anyways....
  20. As others have said...yup its not permissible. I would really start out with just stop giving hugs to guys..b'coz sometimes guys you've known for a good while or just friends might be comfortable at giving u hugs..and now that you don't want to do it, it might be hard 2 let 'em know. Nevertheless, they'll understand right away as soon as u tell them the reason. The hand shake thing is the hardest. I'm still guilty of that....soo used it that sometimes I forget its not OK. It was just recent when I started not giving one....but like I said its HARD! Good Luck abaayo.
  21. Oh God....I just wanna throw up! U say it was all over the news? I didn't know Saudis talked about their private lives in public...hmmm  What tabloid paper was it published on? There's no telling this Farax character was rightous just b'coz he decided not say a thing. Who knows, he knew of his wife's infidelity all along. Secondly....Mr.Farah was probably waiting for an opportunity for revenge...but was intrupted by this sudden offer of marriage. I had a problem with the way the old man made him choose one of his daughters...shows that he had absolutely no regard for whether or not his daughters object to the marriage or not
  22. These two shows unite our household.... 1) Alias ( 3rd season..damn girlfriend can really kick some ***, ultimate girl power show) 2) 24 ( I smell another Emmy) Reality show of the season: The Apprentice Sometimes.....Soul Food I don't really have time for TV shows this yr..but whatever happens..I cannot miss the above shows! If I had time during day-time....Oprah is ma girl!
  23. Oh Subxanallah.....believe it or not, I've been day-dreaming about Rihla past few weeks.....actually for years! Insha Allah I hope to go next year the earliest. Also, ALIM program 2004 is available for registration (should create a threat about it)...so its hard 2 pick which one I want first! Few yrs back, I actually attended a 6 day, winter deen-intensive retreat in Toronto....Walaahi you'll never come out the same. I was so uplifted it's hard to explain it in words. I highly encourage for the nomads to attend one of them! Wa'Salaaam.
