  1. The package of measures that you've presented is generally sound albeit somewhat overly simplified which in my opinion gives it an unrealistic touch.

For instance it doesnt adress the essential back-up plans needed to overcome the hurdles that challenge the plan, one being the ICUs opposition against AU peackeeping troops or for that matter, their opposition against discussions with the TFG at all.

Also A/Y mandate is due to end in 2 yrs so its not an issue of a specific person/clan ruling the nation. On the contrary this could be an opening for a refined ICU political party to take over and lead the formation of a national government. Sadly things look far from heading that way now.

But how long would that take. What if the current situation continues for another 5,10-15 years?
Well, it certainly wont take less time if insurgency activities continues. That much I know.

One should concentrate on this rather than the tired SL rhetoric whenever one is challenged on the current situation.

    What you think?

I think that you've essentially layed forth a sound approach but it must be noted that this line of action can only become fruitful if it is exercised by both anti and pro-secessionists wherein the former needs to be hesitant in dooming or denying SL's call for independence and the latter careful in trying to take advantage of the southern bonanza through various methods.

Coincidentally, the above conditions dilutes the noble proposition you layed forth since these conditions are continually being breached on both sides of the pond, even on government level.

Or is the call for independency and break-away always there, regardless of the future of southern Somalia?

I think this would answer alot of questions and make it easier for anti-secessionists to follow your arguments.

  5. Think I read this book a while back when I was forced to write a book review in English class. Very rosy and life-altering idea but nobody gives a flying f*** really. There is no justice in the world, its all a zero-sum game.

Damn, I probably came across as an emo kid in this post. I'll plant a bonzai tree to compensate for my rudeness smile.gif

  6. I hardly believe the UNDP would refer to Somaliland as a country though. That would really be a stretch. For example, heres what the link Northerner provided says:

Location city: Hargeisa, Somaliland, with missions to other cities

    Location country: Somalia

They wouldnt have written Location country: Somalia if they deemed Somaliland to be a country now wouldnt they? ;)

  7. Sophist, would you recommend an Msc in Applicable Mathematics from LSE as complimentary to cover up for a less quantitative undergrad programme (in order to break into this industry)? I've become quite uninterested of Corp. Finance/IBD lately and more interested in the trading/sales departement of an ibank.

Here is the course outline and these can be combined with courses such as Stochastic Processes and Derivatives :

    Compulsory courses

    Algorithms and Computation

    Plus one or more of:

    Game Theory

    Discrete Mathematics and Complexity

    Games of Incomplete Information

    Options

    Mathematics

    Probability and Measure

    Continuous-Time Optimisation

Computational Learning Theory and Neural Networks

    Information, Communication and Cryptography

    Functional Analysis and its Applications

Calling Somalis Nolanders and then uttering those words above really brings a whole new definition to the secessionist mindset. Seriously, the above quotes sounds like something a KKK member would say to blacks in the US back in the days.
