  1. MMA that was my rally! I did the organization with the help of brothers and sisters...people are confused though. We were against suicide bombings and we were and are not Sharif supporters at all. The Sharif I met and saw in the Twin Cities disappointed us and gave us the impression that he is not that different the incompetent and ineffective Somali leaders.

  4. Mogadishu-Villabruzz i Railway The Mogadiscio-Villabruz zi Railway was the railway of Italian Somalia, and connected the capital of Somalia with the Shebelle river agricultural areas from 1914 to 1941. History It was built initially for the surrounding area of Mogadishu (Mogadiscio in Italian) after World War I. In the 1920s the Italian nobleman Luigi Amedeo, Duke of the Abruzzi had the railwayextended to the Shebelle river colonial villages he was then developing. The line, 114 km long, reached Villabruzzi (then in full "Villaggio Duca degli Abruzzi", now "Jowhar") in 1928. The original proposal was for the railway to go on from Villabruzzi to the Somali border with Ethiopia and into the ******, but the war with the Negus Selassie in 1936 stopped it. In green the Railway Mogadiscio-Villabruz zi (1914-1941) In 1939 the Italian leader Benito Mussolini planned road and rail connections between Mogadiscio and Addis Abeba, but only the road ("La Strada Imperiale") was built before World War II destroyed the Italian Empire. In 1941 the railway was dismantled by the British troops when they conquered the "Africa Orientale Italiana". Since then the railway, except for a few tracks within Mogadishu harbour, was no more used. In 1942 some diesel locomotives and related materials were moved by the English government to Eritrea, to be used in the Railway Massawa-Asmara. In the 1980s the Somalian president Siad Barre proposed the reactivation of the railway, but his fall in 1991 stopped the possible reconstruction. [edit] Statistics The railway in 1930 moved 19.359 passengers, and was used by even for tourism. In the same year 43.467 tons of products (mainly agricultural) were transported, with earnings up to 1.591.527 Lira somala. Most products transported were bananas and coffee, from farm plantations of the area of Villabruzzi, to be exported trough the port of Mogadishu. It was administered by the Ferrovie Somale, a government company. Read more here http://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Mogadishu-V illabruzzi_Railway

  6. Two easy-going, happy-go-lucky Reer Xamar guys named Habiib(Xabiib) and Ma’oow (Macoow) went to Hargeysa, a city in the north of Somalia. They wanted to chew Qat and went to the Mirfish (Geeyrasheen) place. They were conscious that their southern sounding names would attract ridicule and questioning. So they decided to go by northern names to avoid all such nuisance by these inquisitive and curios “Qaldaamiin” After thinking of names, they settled for Qowdhan and Jaamac. Habiib and Macoow, now Qowdhan and Jaamac easily managed to get into the Mirfish , get bundles of Qat and escorts(ladies of the night). After a few drinks and chewing, Macoow goes to the restrooms. He comes back to his seat. The lady-escort who was with him invites him to sit by her side. “Habiibii, kaalay halkan soo fadhiiso, ” she says. “intii musqusha ku maqnaa maa la is kashifaa, usba macoow aa la dhahaa” Habiib overreacted angrily assuming that his name-de-guerre was compromised and his real name was revealed. He didn't get that the lady meant darling (habiibii in arabic)

  8. We are our own race from pharoahs or was it the pharooahs were from Somalia? I heard that even Adam and Eve were Somalis and that some biblical and Quranic places and terms are actually Somali. Oromos don't claim to be arabs and they are our closest brothers in everything, so I wonder where this obsession with Arab origin came from? It's a shame and pure ignorance! Educate yourselves about your hisory! We are older than all races and Arabs!

  12. thanks ..finally i got to know the guy, talked to him and reasoned with him and he was very nice and give me credit for that lame stuff. I told him he could keep it posted but somehow he felt bad and deleted it. He also told me that he never claimed or that it was not his intention to claim it but people assumed that he authored it and he didn't make it clear to them that it was the "work" of someone' else. This taught me a lesson that all you need to do is just be civil and talk to people. Anything can be easily solved if people talk and reason with each other. Misunderstandings, assumptions and negative confrontations complicate things. All that is avoided by being civil and nice and that is what I did and the guy was really a very reasonable and a good sport.Case solved. Copyright on postings on forums is not big deal if one doesn't even consider his postings as a "work" n that is where I was coming from. Nothing to sweat but the idea of "artistic bililiqo bothered me somehow. All I had was the SOL date-stamp an being still able to log into SOL and google on my side.

Thanx Cawaale - I didn't code it or copy righted it cos I felt it was not that important at all...but this dude is claiming it as his own and I am trying to get in touch with him and ask why he is doing this? I did some investigative work and found who he is. Will talk to him soon and try to understand his motives.

  18. Minnesota Somalis condemn Suicide Bombings in Somalia By Abdulkadir Mohamed Sunday, July 05, 2009 Minneapolis, Minnesota - More than one hundred Somali Minnesotans held a rally on Friday to denounce Al-Shabaab, the hard-line Islamist insurgents in Somalia and a series of suicide bombings in their homeland. The radical Islamic group Al-Shabaab has carried out several suicide bombings attacks on African peacekeeper’s bases and against government officials and clan leaders whom they suspect to be allied to a weakening Somali government led by their former ally, President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed. Holding signs that read "No to Suicide Bombings" and “Somalia needs peace” the protesters lined inside Peavey Park and alongside East Franklin Ave and Chicago Avenue in South Minneapolis shouting slogans in English and Somali that drew a chorus of horns from passing motorists. The protest was organized by an ad hoc group of young Somali activists who live here in the Twin Cities. Abdinasir Ghelle, one of the organizers said the rally was to express the community’s condemnation and opposition to suicide bombings. “This turnout shows that Somalis in Minnesota are against those few extremists who misuse and hijack our religion to terrorize people.“ Sadiq Mohamud of Concerned Somali-Americans in Minnesota added that Somali Americans are just as passionate about their opposition to extremists as other Americans. “Somalis in Minnesota don’t condone extremism and it’s about time we let our fellow Minnesotans know that,” he said. The rally was also attended by Imams, the Muslim religious leaders from several Mosques in the twin cities. In the recent past the imams from the Abubakr-As Siddique Islamic Center have come under intense scrutiny by the media and both local and federal law enforcement agencies for being involved in the disappearance of young Somali-American men who it is alleged they sent off to fight at the side of al-Shabaab extremists in war-torn Somalia. The imams have continued to distance themselves from the kind of violence exhibited by Al-Shabaab. “Suicide in killing oneself is condemned by Allah and The Quran does not promise Heaven to those who commit suicide but rather the wrath and the condemnation to Hell, and if you kill others in suicide bombings, the punishment is even more,” Omar Hurre, the director of Abu-Bakr-As Siddique Islamic center told the protestors. Imam Hassan Mohamud of the Islamic Dawah Center in Saint Paul urged local Somalis to work hard to pacify their homeland and the Somalis in Somalia through non-violence means and to engage in dialogue. The Imam challenged Al-Shabaab fighters to put down their weapons and to spare the lives of innocent civilians in Mogadishu, the bullet-ridden Somali capital. The recent fighting between Al-Shabaab and forces loyal to the Somali government in Mogadishu has forced more than half-million civilians to run away from their homes. The Imams in the rally reiterated their opposition and condemnation against suicide bombings one by one in series of speeches. Amira Adawe, one of the organizers who lost family and relatives in the latest suicide bombings in Beledweyne, a town in central Somalia promised more rallies and forums to come to encourage the Somali community in Minnesota and beyond to be united in condemning suicide bombings and acts of extreme violence in Somalia. Day of Rage

When Ethiopian enemy invaded Somalia, we organized a protest, the first of its kind in Minneapolis, we supported the liberation of our country and we were 100% against the warlord government that asked them to invade Somalia. We are against the re-invasion of Ethiopia into Somali territory. That is unacceptable But brothers and sisters let us not confuse issues here. Let us talk about them one by one and take things into prespective. This protest is not to support any Somali faction. Actually most of us who are organizing this event and protest do not support any one group. We just oppose the prolonged Somali civil war, the escalation of violence, the religious warlords, the use of our beautiful and peaceful Islam to kill and destroy, we oppose the twisted and wicked interpretation of the groups led by shabaab and aweys, we oppose the suicide bombings, we oppose the amputations of limbs of the weak, the stoning of the poor girls, the imposition of wicked and violent cult that is alien to our Islamic values and traditions. That is all we trying to do, to express our disgust, anger and total opposition to such violent and wicked groups as Al-Shabaab and Hizb-Islam. They are warmongers and they are not that different than the ruthless warlords. We believe 20 years of senseless violence is enough. It is time to explore other non-violent ways to solve our crisis. Again, I repeat we don't support the re-invasion of Somalia by any front-line state including Kenya, Ethiopia. We don't support the government of Sharif. Can we be more clear than this? We support the concept of non-violence, peaceful Islam, institution building, governance, human rights, rehabilitation and reconciliation, disarmament and the sanctity of Somali unity. Right now, we have the phenomena of suicide bombings - last one Beledweyne was shocking and was done by a brainwashed teenage boy. Can we just be silent until Somali teens change into suicide bombers and why not no older members of Shabaab and Aweys's group are not dying and committing suicide bombings and why they are using young child soldiers to fight for them to seize power? Somalia is our country and we love it so much to be on the sidelines and just be silent witnesses to its suffering and self-destruction. We will take stands on issues one by one and we will prioritize issues as to the weight and relevance to time and what is going on in Somalia.

    Day of Rage

In the last two years there has been a number of suicide bombings in Somalia (Beledweyne being the latest, previous suicide bombing attacks occurred in Hargeisa , Boosaaso and Mogadishu). This is a new scary phenomena, unheard and unseen in Somalia and alien to our Somali customs and Islamic tradition. These acts of terrorism and suicide bombings are done by a very extreme and violent cult bnamed Al-Shabaab. Somalis all over the world and specially Somali-Americans in Minnesota strongly oppose these suicide bombings. A group of concerned Somali-Americans are organizing a protest to show the community's disgust and opposition to such un-Islamic acts of violence. Somali Americans strongly condemn the suicide bombings and terrorism of Al-Shabaab and the warmongering of Hizb-Islam. Somali-Americans in Minnesota believethe only way to solve the Somali crisis is through peace and dialogue. Come and join the Somali community in Minnesota in the condemnation of these violent extremists and their suicide bombings. The community is taking a stand and we want the world and the Somalis in the diaspora to know our protest so that this could be replicated. enough is enoug. twenty years of bloodshed and prolonged conflict is unacceptable. The organizers will release a press release and voice the community's stand on this issue and others.
