  3. Frédéric Kanouté in action for Mali against Kenya (Getty Images) Kanouté makes Mali merry Monday, 26 January 2004 Tottenham Hotspur FC striker Frédéric Kanouté made a spectacular debut for Mali as he scored twice to give them a 3-1 African Cup of Nations Group B win against Kenya on a day when Senegal were held 0-0 by Burkina Faso in Tunisia. Sissoko opener Valencia CF's Mohamed Lamine Sissoko, who like Kanouté had previously represented France at youth level but was cleared to play for Mali as a full international, also made a fine bow as he gave them the lead in Bizerte on 28 minutes, capitalising on a loose ball in the Kenyan defence. Titus Mulama scored a fine equaliser for Kenya on 58 minutes, but Kanouté soon restored Mali's lead and another powerful finish nine minutes from the end secured victory. 'I am very happy' After the game, Kanouté said: "Today is the beginning of something for me so I am very happy, but it is only a beginning. I have scored two goals, the team played well and today I am happy for a whole country." However, he added: "My heart is still with Tottenham and I wish them all the best."

  6. Benfica striker Miklos Feher suffered a heart attack and died during a Portuguese SuperLiga clash at Vitoria Guimaraes on Sunday. The 24-year-old Hungarian international - who was capped 18 times - collapsed shortly after being yellow carded in stoppage time. He leaned forward with his hands on his thighs before suddenly falling backward. Feher - a second half substitute - was stretchered off the pitch and the game was halted for 15 minutes as team doctors attempted to resuscitate him. "We tried to do everything we could to save him,'' Dr. Fausto Fernandes said. Feher was taken to a hospital in Guimaraes by ambulance, where he died later. UEFA announced on its official website that Feher died of cardiac arrest. An autopsy was planned for Monday. "We are all in deep shock and would first like to address his family sending our condolences. All the Benfica board and supporters are mourning our athlete, Miklos Feher," Benfica's head of communications Antonio Cunha Vaz said. At last year's Confederations Cup finals, Cameroon midfielder Marc Vivien Foe collpased and died after suffering a heart attack on the field. sad story ey..
