Abu-Salman;843082 wrote: My kind of worrying has to do with my idealist wishful thinking that people must be rational and acting on information; it's clearer now that they seldom bother, act more on impulses, peer pressure etc. I was very sentimental and compassionate as a kid too, some say it's a sign of giftedness (along with curiosity etc). Well, apart from being irritated with how irrational and ignorance preferring we tend to be (too much suffering preventable with a bit of cautiousness and research), or sheer caring and attachment (people are what matters, can not forget someone), there is this partly selfish motive. Since my happiest moments were as a teen surrounded by some relatives and acquaintances, my thinking goes that preserving them as before may re-enact those nostalgic moments or at least keep the possibility of ersatz innocent moments ("happiness is the past"). I was nostalgic even back then, though much less so, and this sentimentality seems foreign to my more pragmatic siblings. To my defense, it's true that blissful innocence and merriness is much harder when fully informed about the countless cruel ways this world operates and its constant risks of all sorts, when grown up and disillusioned on many fronts. At least, back then, I could pretend that with knowledge and some preaching, things will improve (no more destitute crowds, patients etc) but it's as if some things get worse even if others improve and nobody cares much about suffering or logic, what works and getting informed thoroughly. Thus, some optimism and less sentimentality would helps me a lot but it's so uncoherent with my nature that I just often envy the aloofness and optimism levels of others... You need to be less of a sponge absorbing the negativity on your periphery and realise you can't save the whole world, just focus on those you can help.
  2. http://tobiashagmann.freeflux.net/files/media/horn/docs/m-sh-ali-giiumale_nd_mogadishu.pdf Alot of interesting stuff in there such as maps, images, some well known others rare. This guide is a treasure of information, I never knew there were restaurants called Ming Sing or La Bamba in down town Mogadishu, very cosmopolitan. I also never knew there was such a massive motel complex called Rughta Taleex. Lots of advertisement by Somali hotels, and companies, many no longer extant.
  3. You're a dinosaur walaal, a proper Marxusaurus Rex. They aren't "our" women, nor are we "their" men. The faster you process this fact, and realise this is not the Old Republic with its traditional family & community bonds, the easier it will be for you to lead a healthy life, and find yourself a beautiful woman, insha-allah.

The mad man strikes again with his perpetual projectile verbal diarrhea that he finds so intellectual that at the end of every excremental rant, Alphy licks everything he unleashed from his dirty mouth back from the ground as a form of self-reflection..mmmmm deh lol. Don't hate me brother for being respected by all the sisters on SOL. It's a natural side-effect when you don't harrass them through PM - a function I don't have activated - or on the forum. Now go back to stalking innocent maids, and supporting cowardous women-beaters. drrrinn drinnn drinn

  9. They should have hired Dr Osman. What bothers me the most is there is no one in that room with the balls to stand up and call a spade a spade. This is a disgraceful looking parliament for one of the major states in the Republic. What's with the Times Roman- lettering on the desks, or the silk covers on the tables, is this a soccer-match slash xaflad? I again set my hopes too high when it comes to Somalis. Well at least S-;land did a reasonable job, and the reconstructed Federal parliament has the classic design to put us on par with the rest of the world.
  10. Nobody believed me when I said deep down all Somali men think they own Somali women, and vice-versa, even when they don't realise it. Narniah, to that Somali guy, you were under his jurisdiction and there is no chicken-eating under his watch. You need to be faster next time, and put him on the spot, he's bound to be wearing, eating or doing something you could point out as un-ethical, like his Nike shoes put together by poor Indian kids, etc. He qarxised you good LOL.
  11. Elpunto, this me, the guy nicknamed ''Feminist Farax'' for his pro-Somali women views, remember? I have another brilliant idea, lakiin I won't share it because if there is one stereotype that is true about Somalis; its that they're business-savvy, and I don't want someone else to snatch it lol. These are interesting times brothers.
  12. Elpunto, we could attract Muslim groups like the Kazakhs, Qataris, Kuwaitis who are known for their spending power, and none of their lakes or sea coasts can compare to ours. Tourism in Somalia doesn't have to be just about beach-culture, we could rehabilitate our national parks, and import animal-cubs and breed healthy wild-life populations. We could promote the natural beauty of our mountains and the unique species of Birds found in the country. As for alcohol and the other stuff, why not have that on one of the Bajuni Islands, where nobody really lives? I'm personally determined to start a surf-club in Mogadishu, and attract surfers from Japan to Australia.
  13. Great pictures MMA, we're losing our national treasures from the First Republic one after another. These men were walking libraries, and their stories should be told in profesionally compiled documentaries about that period. May he reach Jannah, insha-allah.
  14. Actually I was describing prewar Mogadishu and superimposed it on the near-future reality.
  15. That's more like it, the phoenix city is rising from the ashes. Imagine the whitest sandy beaches, the bluest African waters. Families after a hard day's work coming together at Lido beach. Elders basking in the sun, and munching on juicy water-melons. Children splashing in the water, and licking jalaato. Dare-devils on motorbikes racing eachother across the open beach. . Imagine medieval & modern architecture sprawling in aesthestical harmony. An old Somalesque mosque surrounded by lush green parks and public gardens. An elaborate Moorish hotel embracing an art-deco cafe. The wide boulevards down town, the narrow streets in the old quarters. Imagine cinematic joy indoors, cinematic joy outdoors. Film festivals drawing in visitors and talent from around the world. Honey-brown beauties gracing the catwalks of Mogadishu's fashion-shows. Plays and concerts galore at the Yellow theatre. The largest museums displaying the rich heritage of the country. Imagine the Jewelry shops at the Tamarind Market. Young Somali couples picking out necklaces & rings to symbolize their union. Cosmopolitanism on a grander scale than ever. A taste of Asian cuisine at the Thai restaurant down-town. Mandarin lessons at the Beijing University of Mogadishu. Imagine oil flowing, crops growing, ships docking, Vimto bottles popping. Yeah, new Somali money baby, the birth of a middle-class. A Somali Stock Exchange uniting the entrepreneurs of the Somali World. The Somali Brand visible from Tokyo to Tehran and from Timbuktu to Kathmandu. It's time we became winners, insha'allah!
  16. Mogadishu tourism: From world's most dangerous city to Somalia's seaside gem? Thursday, June 14, 2012 Erin Conway-Smith Mogadishu, long feared as the (unofficial) World's Most Dangerous City, is forging a new reputation: beachfront paradise. So say journalists who have visited the seaside Somali capital in recent months, and left raving about Mogadishu's beautiful Indian Ocean beaches, fresh lobster and entrepreneurs returning to open restaurants and hotels. -- Link
  17. Peace would open up money-pots that could transform the people in Somalia and the next twenty generations. We are talking about tens of trillions of dollars over the next twenty years. That's what's in it for them.
  18. We have the most pristine beaches in Africa, Somalia is known as a Bird's watcher's Paradise. We have sand dunes that could be used for various Motorsports, we have mountains that could be climbed by back-packers, we have two large rivers and a long coastline where amazing water-sport tournaments could be established. We have the most amount of castles, fortresses and old cities in Sub-Saharan Africa. I told you this conflict is MADNESS, we should be making BIG MONEY!
  19. We have lost at least $500 billion in the last two decades be it, tourism revenue, infrastructure, trade, resource-industries, etc. This figure will be several times higher if we don't get our act together this year!
