Toll from clashes in Somali port hits 22: resident (AFP) – 4 days ago MOGADISHU — At least 22 people, including civilians, died in Thursday's clashes between two Islamist factions in the southern Somali port city of Kismayo, Sheikh Abdi Haji Abdullahi, a local resident told AFP. The fighting was initially thought to have left 10 dead. "The bodies of a further 12 people killed in the violence in Kismayo have been recovered," he said on Friday, explaining that the dozen were in addition to the toll of 10 previously reported. Local resident Abdiweli Mohamud said those recovered from the scene of the battle included "fighters as well as civilians". "The number of wounded are more than 70, including some with very serious injuries," Mohamud said. Thursday's fighting pitted the Al Qaeda-inspired Shebab against the Hezb al-Islam group and started when the Shebab launched a dawn offensive, residents said. Both parties claimed the upper hand when fighting ended. The city, about 300 kilometres (185 miles) south of Mogadishu, was wrested from government forces in August 2008 and has been an Islamist bastion ever since, but relations between the two groups have soured in recent weeks. The two factions agreed to share power in Kismayo, with each governing for six months alternatively, but clan politics intervened and the rotation failed when the Shebab refused to relinquish the administration. Kismayo had been relatively quiet until Thursday. On Friday residents said the city was tense but calm. -
'Somalia single largest humanitarian crisis' Tue, 06 Oct 2009 07:17:54 GMT Font size : Over 3.6 million people in Somalia are in desperate need of aid, where droughts and unabated violence rule the country. Somalia presents the single largest humanitarian challenge in the world, where food crisis, droughts and violence continue to devastate the country, a leading aid group says. Over 3.6 million people, or half of Somalia's population, are currently in desperate need of aid, International aid organization, Oxfam GB, reported on Monday. "In terms of numbers of people, access to any form of social welfare or livelihood choices, and the apparent intractability of it (the conflict in Somalia), it is the most pressing concern in humanitarian terms that we have globally," Oxfam GB's humanitarian director Jane Cocking told Reuters. Adding to the crisis are over 1.3 million internally displaced people and another half a million refugees who reside in impoverished camps in neighboring Kenya and Ethiopia. However, even as conflicts rage within the Horn of Africa nation, both private and government donors are reluctant to throw money in a state as disorganized as Somalia, where a weak UN-backed interim government struggles to retain a bloody insurgency, Oxfam added. The London-based organization stressed that in negotiating the fifth year of drought in East Africa, one in six Somali children face acute malnourishment. "That is, in the UN's terms, a crisis ... But because it's been a similarly awful picture for such a long time, the crisis warning bell no longer produces the fire brigade," Paul Smith-Lomas , Oxfam GB's east Africa director said. Oxfam also noted that limited access to civilians caught in the conflict zones in Somalia has forced the organization to rely more on local partners. In Somalia, scores of aid workers and journalists have been kidnapped, killed or otherwise targeted since the central government collapsed in 1991. FF/SC/DT

djibsomali, I must agree with Che, the secessionist should be mocked, but the people of the NW should not be your target. There is a stark difference, thus highlght the weakness and ********* of the secessionist cause and how it hurts the interest of our people in NW Somalia as a whole. Otherwise you will not get your point across. -

“Dagaallada hadda ka socda Soomaaliya waxaa dhaamay oo ka roonaa kuwii qabiilka, waayo dagaalladaas waxay lahaayeen qaab loo raaco Diin-na laguma gambaneynin” Sharif Hotel of 2009. "Starting from today, we have declared jihad against Ethiopia," said the union's deputy leader, Sheikh Sharif Ahmed. Sharif Motel 2006 What madness that this same man, only three years ago declared a Jihad on everyone who spoke against his clan movement. Today he is reformed, he has changed, his supporters talk about unity and peace and that we need the caravan. Yet what about the youths who thought he was leading them to heaven. Can we unite their joints, their rotten muscles to their bones? Can we find peace for their bereaved mothers who have no idea why their sons went to their deaths? While Sharif Hotel betrayed his friends, he has been rewarded, however the time for rewarding bad behavior is coming to an end, and this man will be held accountable. If not by the people, history will surely condemn him.

"Hadaan lakala roonan Roob ma da'o walalaaheen shabaab waxaa ka codsaneynaa inay xabada naga joojiyaan" [/i] ayuu yiri Sheekh Xasan Dahir Aweys oo hadaladiisa u muuqday kuwo dadka u fasirteen inuu gacan ku gambasho yahay. Col. Aweys ayaa dalbaday in la gaaro xabad joojin iyo inay heshiiyaan, isagoo soo qaatay kulan dhex maray isaga iyo Saraakiisha sar sare ee Xarakada Alshabaab uu ahaa mid aan wax heshiis lagu gaarin, natiijo la'aana ku dhamaaday, taasoo sida uu sheegay ay keentay inuu isaga la hadlo Warbaahinta. Xasan Dahir is crying now, but did he ever think about the Somali people whom his actions have left destitute, maimed and killed? No his thirst for power has left countless Somali’s dead, while his children live and study abroad. This monster of a man should just go and burry himself.

Xiisada Dagaal ee ka taagan Gobolka J/hoose oo Cirka isku sii shareeray Dagaalo iyo xiisado colaadeed oo aad u saameeyay gobolka Jubada hoose ayaa maalmihii ugu dambeeyay ka taagneyd daafaha xarunta gobolkaasi ee Kismaayo. Dagaaladan oo qeybtood ay dad badani ku geeriyoodeen ayaa waxaa iminka ay si xoogan uga socdan deegaano badan oo ku yaala galbeedka gobolkaasi halkaas oo ay ku sii qul qulayaan ciidamo aad u farabadan oo ku hubeysan hubka noocyadiisa kala duwan . Sida ay xaqiijiyeen dadka qaar ka tirsan tuulooyinka ay sida weyn uga jiraan xiisadaha dagaalka waxaa halkaasi gaaraya gurbadyo farabadan oo ka kala tirsan labada dhinac ee halkaasi isku haya yagoo mararka qaar furunta hore ee dagaalka laga maqlayo dhawaqa rasaasta nooceeda kala duwan oo ay isku adeegnadanayaan dhinacyadaasi. Xalay oo ugu dabeeysay meel duleedka galbeed kaga began magaalada Kismaayo waxaa laga maqlay daryanka rasaasta cul culus oo ayisku adeegsadeen dhinacyadaasi inkastoo aan la soo sheegin qasaare ka dhashay. Dagaalka oo xalay ilaa sardii dhexe la isku habeensaday ayaa saaka xaaladu u muuqataa mid degen islamarkaana aanay jirin wax rasaas ah oo dhaceysa inkastoo ay socdaan abaabulo dagaal oo sababi karta in saacadaha soo socda dhaca. Dagaalkan dagaalo ka horeeyay oo ka dhacay deegaanada ka agdhow degmada Afmadow iyo Kismaayo ayaa waxaa ay geysteen qasaarooyin badan oo isku jira dhimasho iyo dhaawac inkastoo aan la xaqiijin tiradooda rasmiga ah . Marka laga soo tago isku dhacyada iyo xiisada taagan ayaa hadana waxaa arimahaasi walaac xoogan ka muujinaya dadka rayidka ah ee aan iyagu waxba galabsan ee lagu dul dagaalamayo, waxaana ay sheegeen dadka deegaanada galbeedka kismaayo ee u dagaalku ka socdo in dagaaladan ay ka cabsi qabaan in ay qasaare xoogan u geystaan halka dadka qaarkoodna ay barakac horleh galeen. Somalia: 17 killed in renewed clashes near Kismayo 5 Oct 5, 2009 - 3:30:46 PM KISMAYO, Somalia Oct 6 (Garowe Online) - At least 17 people were killed in southern Somalia during a series of battles overnight Sunday and Monday morning, Radio Garowe reports. The fighting erupted Sunday night in Janay Abdalla village around 50km from the southern port of Kismayo between two Somali rebel factions, Al Shabaab and Hizbul Islam. Again, on Monday morning, renewed clashes erupted around Janay Abdalla village with unconfirmed reports saying Al Shabaab fighters were pushed back. Most of the 17 dead victims were fighters, but local sources said some civilians were among 20 wounded persons. Hundreds of civilians have fled the area. Sheikh Hassan Yakub, the Al Shabaab spokesman in Kismayo, confirmed the fighting to reporters but declined to mention casualties on their side. "The fighting last night and this morning [Monday] was very intense and both sides have suffered," Sheikh Yakub told reporters in Kismayo. Wounded persons were brought to medical centers in Kismayo and Afmadow, a town located northwest of Kismayo near the Kenyan border and controlled by Hizbul Islam. Reliable sources tell Garowe Online that Hizbul Islam fighters captured 8 Al Shabaab members during the fighting, including three wounded fighters. A foreign fighter described as a Ugandan national was captured wounded, according to unconfirmed reports attributed to Hizbul Islam sources. Further, Hizbul Islam fighters burned two armed trucks belonging to Al Shabaab and captured two other armed trucks during Monday's battle. Al Shabaab's spokesman neither confirmed nor denied the claims. Sheikh Ahmed Madobe, the commander of Hizbul Islam rebels in Lower Jubba region, is reportedly leading Hizbul Islam forces on the ground and has vowed to recapture Kismayo. Al Shabaab fighters captured members of Hizbul Islam during last Thursday's battle in Kismayo, when Al Shabaab seized control of the strategic port town and expelled Hizbul Islam fighters. According to sources, Al Shabaab's administrators have appealed to clan leaders to bring members of Hizbul Islam wounded during Thursday's battle to be brought to the Kismayo hospital for treatment after pledging to keep the wounded fighters safe. The armed clashes come on the heels of ongoing talks between the top leaders of Hizbul Islam and Al Shabaab in the outskirts of Mogadishu, the Somali capital. Meanwhile, insurgent attacks in Mogadishu targeting Somali government forces and African peacekeepers (AMISOM) have decreased since the eruption of war between Hizbul Islam and Al Shabaab, two insurgent groups who have jointly waged an insurgency against the Somali government since May. -

Dowladda oo awood la'aan sheegtey 5 Oct 5, 2009 - 6:31:32 AM Wasiirka arimaha gudaha ee Somali Sh. C/qaadir Cali Cumar ayaa saxaafada u sheegay in dowladda Somalia aysan awood ahaan isku filayn, sidoo kalena aysan iska difaaci karin kooxaha doonaya inay xukunka ka tuuraan. "DF oo keliya kama gulaysan karto kooxaha kasoo horjeda hadii aan ciidamada AMISOM loo ogolaan inay ka barbar dagaalamaan ciidamada dowlada" ayuu yiri Sh. C/qaadir Cali Cumar oo ku sugan Magaalada Nairobi. Wasiirku wuxuu sheegay in xukuumadu ay ku kooban tahay goobo yar oo Muqdisho ku yaala, ayna caalamka uga baahan tahay kaalmooyin, isugu jira ciidamo iyo in howlgalka AMISOM la badalo lagana dhigo mid nabad dhalin ah. "Ciidamada Midowga Afrika oo tiradooda lasoo dhameystiro waxay inoo sahlaysaa inaan jilbaha dhulka ugu dhufano xoogaga Islaamiyiinta ah ee naga soo horjeeda" ayuu wasiirku sheegay, isagoo intaas ku daray: -
Our problems are man made, we created them, they are born out of ignorance, and poverty and the ambition of greedy men. Today the model for the country is simple, follow the Northern experience and develop self sufficient states. While the foreign led and controlled “Jihadis” have failed to deliver anything other than more fighting and land grabs, and the government of Sharif Ahmed and his clanist groups have failed to deliver, we have in Garowe and Hargaysa, Somali admins that against the odds have brought peace to vast regions. Thus ask yourself why is there sustained peace and stability in these states and not anything comparable in the south?
-
A mad man, facing even madder men A man who has always fought enemies, real and imagined, a clanist suffering from delusional grandeur and who happens to believe he is the Somali Mahdi. Yet today he finds himself isolated on all sides fighting his very own creation, ruthless thugs who have taken over the brand of mad religious fanatics. Yesterday Xasan Dahir was the maddest man on the block the toughest "religious" thug around who pretended to be something, he hoodwinked the Somali's with his Arab “Mujahid” vetran of Afghanistan credentials, the irony is today, real Arab “Mujahid” fanatics are on the ground and there is no need for the copy cat Xasan dahir Aways. The failure of these two men, will usher in a ray of hope for the Somali people, religion can no longer be used as a cloak to hide our own failures, much like clan is no longer an excuse for the problems of Somalia.
-
The Audacity of Ignorance A man who does not run a single village, yet claims to be President, that is the case of Sharif Ahmed. His supporters seem to ignore facts and dwell on supposed good personal traits as if they were going to marry the man. “He is wonderful” a good man they keep repeating maybe in preparation to introduce him to their mothers. The facts on the ground are damning, this “most popular man in last 20 years” who was to be the first man to visit the White house in the past 40 years, has yet to outline his vision for Somalia, even when he came to MN he dwelt on local issues such as the missing youths maybe out of guilt and to appease the US authorities who know his background more than anyone else. This man who has attempted and still attempts to sell the Somali sea to Kenya for a few bucks, should not be taken as anything other than another crook

^^^I am helping the situation by highlighting the facts on the ground, by showing the world that Somalia solution is simple, build local admins from the bottom up with a view to the creation of Federal states, like Puntland, with strong security apparatus, international community should develop the institutions of both Hargaysa & Garowe, I want a country at peace with itself, its neighbors and the world. Not these weak cowards who want to "liberate Alaska", and who owe their allegiance and love to some confused Arab in a cave. -
