  2. My name is Mohamud Noor and I am running for State Senate. November 3rd, 2011 I am running because I believe everyone deserves access to employment at a living wage, affordable health care, and high-quality education regardless of their ethnic background or economic status. I believe that all children deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential. I also believe that the rich need to pay their fair share. I immigrated to Minneapolis twelve years ago and worked my way through college and into a rewarding career as an IT professional. Today I live in Northeast Minneapolis with my wife Farhiya Del, and our three beautiful children. A serious opportunity gap has developed in our society, with some doing quite well and many others falling behind. I am committed to overcoming the divisive politics that is widening this gap even further, while giving the rich a free ride. Together we can overcome all the odds. I am running to bring determined leadership to the Senate. My first-hand understanding of the issues faced by the under-represented communities will bring a seldom heard voice to St Paul. I hope to get to know you as this campaign progresses. I ask for your support. I ask for your ideas. I ask for your vote.
  3. Minneapolis' teachers union endorses Noor in state Senate election Posted by: Corey Mitchell under People and neighborhoods, Politics and government Updated: November 22, 2011 - 12:08 PM 0 comments print share The Minneapolis Federation of Teachers has endorsed Mohamud Noor as a replacement for state Sen. Larry Pogemiller. Noor is among seven candidates vying to replace Pogemiller in Senate District 59, representing northeast Minneapolis. A DFL primary is Dec. 6 and the general election is Jan. 10. Pogemiller resigned this fall to accept an appointment as Director of Office of Higher Education. Others candidates who have filed for the seat are: DFLers Kari Dziedzic, Jacob Frey, Alicia Frosch, Paul Ostrow and Peter Wagenius, and Republican Ben Schwanke. Noor has children who attend Minneapolis Public Schools and his wife, a member of the union, works as an educational aide in the district. "He will work collaboratively to help close the achievement gap in our schools," teachers union president Lynn Nordgren said in a news release. " ... Mohamud understands that parents, teachers and elected leaders all must come together to address [the] achievement gap and promote educational success for all students." The teachers union is an affiliate of Education Minnesota, which represents over 70,000 educators statewide.
  4. Noor for Senate District 59 Mohamud Noor will bring a fresh perspective to the state Legislature. Printer-friendly version By Daily Editorial Board 2011 / 12 / 01 From the state shutdown last summer to the federal debt ceiling debacle and failure of the congressional “supercommittee” to agree on a deficit reduction plan, there are many examples that show our political system is broken. At the same time, the United States, Minnesota and Minneapolis are all becoming more diverse. These two facts mean we need fresh faces with new perspectives to represent us. That is why the Minnesota Daily Editorial Board endorses Mohamud Noor for State Senate District 59. The DFL primary vote will take place next Tuesday, Dec. 6, and the general election will occur Jan. 10. The DFL primary is crucial, since District 59 voted for the DFL candidate by a margin of 78-22 percent in the last general election in 2010. Mohamud Noor is the candidate of change in this election. His ideas, experiences and character will combine to bring a new perspective to the Minnesota State Legislature. As a black immigrant, Noor brings a significantly more diverse range of experiences to the state Legislature than the typical Minnesota politician. Right now, only six of the 201 total seats in the state Legislature are held by self-reported minorities, only three of which are in the state Senate. It’s time for that to change. Noor’s experiences — and his knowledge of several languages — can help him interact with and represent more easily a much greater part of his constituency than any other candidate. And being black and an immigrant means there is no doubt he will stand up for the interests of the underrepresented. An argument critics of Noor might make is that he has little experience in the political system. In this political environment, we consider that an advantage. While Noor might not be familiar with the inner workings and mechanisms of the state Legislature, he is also not a part of the current political power system. He comes in with none of the personal loyalties that other candidates might have, and his new perspective makes him capable of thinking outside the current political processes and ignoring conventional wisdom. At the recent Daily candidate forum, other DFL candidates blasted “Tea Party Republicans” and said that voting Republicans out of office would be the best way to get their policies passed. This is an unconstructive attitude and the wrong one to take. It places too much importance on politics and not enough on governance. Even if the DFL had the majority in the state Legislature, its members would still have to negotiate with Republicans. Noor avoided this kind of talk and seemed more willing and more likely to avoid the poisonous rhetoric of demonizing opponents that hamstrings one’s ability to compromise and negotiate. While Noor is a great match for his district, he also has a broad enough view to understand that his work at the state Senate will affect all of Minnesota. His push for competitive bidding for public employee health insurance plans and expanding broadband connectivity in the state show that his interests are not narrow and he will not focus only on provincial projects for District 59. Noor also has policies that will specifically benefit students. Besides having firsthand experience with the education and higher education systems of Minnesota, he wants to be continually engaged with students on our campus. Noor will work with a student liaison and has promised to hold a quarterly forum on campus, in addition to his office having an “open door” policy for students. We believe that Noor will represent students at least as well, if not better, than all the other candidates. He will also bring a far different and much broader perspective to the Legislature. This election is about old ways of thinking versus new ones. Noor is District 59’s best hope for real change.
  5. Mohamoud Noor, the unlikely candidate campaign picked up a great deal of traction lately. He has the major endorsement of the Minnesota Association of Professional Employees (MAPE) and the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers as well as the Minnesota Daily newspaper. District 59 also has the largest concentration of new immigrant (Somali) population anywhere in the state. This hardworking, educated and humble family man can make a difference and help turn things around for the State of Minnesota. So one and all lets work hard over the next few days to get brother Mohamud Nor elected to the Senate of the great state of Minnesota. The special election will take place on Tuesday, December the 6th 2011... ITS SIMPLE..... Vote Dec 6th between 7AM-8PM
  6. Complaints from secessionists is always a good thing. Abdiweli as PM has visited a large area and more diverse and more populated than Siilanyu, Riiyaale and Egaal in their secessionist days. After all of Puntland + Mogadishu is much larger in area and more in terms of population than the secessionist enclave...
  7. Civil Society backs Roadmap for Somalia About:- 23 hours ago| 0Commnets PRESS RELEASE A three day consultative meeting of civil society representatives has concluded in Mogadishu with the plenary expressing full support for the Roadmap on ending the transition which charts the major tasks which need to take place over the next nine months in Somalia. The Civil Society Consultative Meeting on Ending the Transition, which met from 26 – 28 November, involved 60 representatives of religious leaders, clan elders, the business community, the Diaspora, youth and women’s groups. The meeting, facilitated by the UN Political Office for Somalia, brought these groups together with representatives of the Transitional Federal Institutions, Puntland and Galmudug administrations and Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama’a (ASWJ). “I am very optimistic that your presence here is a major landmark and milestone. Civil society is the bridge between political differences. The power is in your hands – help us,” the UN Special Representative for Somalia, Dr. Augustine P. Mahiga said during the conference opening, which he co-chaired with the Somali Deputy Prime Minister, Arab Issa. The civil society organisations fully endorsed the Roadmap and called for a principle role in its implementation. They agreed to set up a civil society umbrella organisation to work with the Transitional Federal Institutions, Regional Administrations and ASWJ. During the meeting, the participants divided into four working groups corresponding to the four pillars of the Roadmap – security, constitution, outreach and reconciliation and good governance. Each group put forward a series of recommendations which were outlined in the closing ceremony. The recommendations included increasing financial support to implement security programmes, respecting the timeframe set for the Roadmap’s completion, establishing a Constituent Assembly to provisionally endorse the Constitution, supporting the current efforts to reform Parliament, establishing Reconciliation Committees, convening reconciliation conferences and enacting anti-corruption legislation. “The political strategy is inclusiveness and everybody in Somalia must participate,” Dr. Mahiga told the closing ceremony which was attended by the Somali President, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and the Speaker of Parliament, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden. Representatives from the international community including the African Union, the European Union, IGAD, the League of Arab States, Djibouti, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States were also present at the closing. The Roadmap, which was agreed at a High Level Conference in Mogadishu from 4 – 6 September, charts a course to the end of the transitional period in August 2012, providing political direction and promoting inclusivity and stability. It focuses on four pillars and includes benchmarks, delineation of responsibilities and compliance mechanisms. Source: UNPOS

  10. Samatar & his brother were always opportunists and no more. Even in Minneapolis the Somali population have realized what these men are. It's the case of those who can do and those who can not teach. In fact Somalia today is getting better. Mogadishu is slowly coming back and large parts are peaceful. There is a nation called Somalia. It's still emerging from the war but it has not died.
  11. Ghandi's superb "how I learned French in Prison & other stories The SNM must read "All the Queens children for Dummies"
  12. Siilanyu: being a Mugged one is no fun. overcoming decades of abuse from Bare to Riiyaale.
  13. I think the title of Xasan Turki's book can only be a "A Prisoner of Heaven" unlike his fellow Prison folk who have given up Xasan is truly down for the struggle.
  14. He sure told the truth. He called out the Prisoners "even their religious leaders have joined their masters all for what, a Kilig or Mamul when evil rules them". I mean he called out those Kukiye servants who beloved the fake titles given to them. Lol the old mane as so right he blamed Zanie on the Prisoners. Even highlighting how they have given up on long years of struggle to serve those who held them in bondage. Yeah the old man has zero sincerity but he sure told the truth about the Prisoners. He is only using this for politics but you have to be honest that when it comes to the Prisoners claims since the mad Mullah and the ONLF they are now serving this who ruled them all these decades. Yes Xasan is right on the prisoners. On Ali Mahdi, Yey and Sharif these clans always stood in his way and beat him on many occasion thus it's personal beef.
  15. A great Idea, we told you that Somaliland aint going anywhere. As Mogadishu becomes more stable the shock and awe will sart in Hargaysa.
  16. ^^^You are assuming that the SNM are the Yanks here. No mate they have a few bigger guns and the likes of Xabsade on their side. Thats all. However its for the SSC folks to fight their battles. This is between these two clans and thats that.
  17. But please remember that I "found my secessionist voice" when your lot dropped the ball and gave us LA. NGOONGE, that’s quite an interesting revelation on your part. However the important point is and I quote you we gave it to you and you know what can be given can also be taken back. The SNM clan fiefdom is not going to become a state. To the prisoner what no more Xabashi quotes? Soon he will tell us about his days in an all Kukuyi boys school, just to make himself sound relevant.
  18. Abtigiis;755850 wrote: When in school in Addis Ababa, I used to hear the Axmaro say to those they think are utterly mentally underpriviledged " Go to your mother, a parent never forsakes his son or daughter". You mean there are still people who take General Duke seriously and agree with his 'diagnosis'? As a cousin, you are being very generous to him. Only in the parents house can fools like Duke be given the platform to address people. Xinn, please don't say what you said again. The Prisoner strikes back I guess. One has to find tragic irony in the Prisoner using an Amxara adage as a form of attack. It’s also quite sad that one mistakes his old prison complex for an institution of learning. Abtigi’s found Somalia when he foolishly started to believe that Kenyan tanks were going to give him Azania. Much like how our NGOONGE found his secessionist voice when Siilanyu became President. lol@ the title, Xiin must be doing something right.. I am also a fan of the man, while I disagree with his support of Sharif at times, one can not doubt he has genuine love for the country..
  19. It's a tragedy these two clans should stop killing each other.
  20. I shL read it. Yusuf was always ahead of folks now every one will start releasing their life story.'including XX leader Amira Godane and the longest serving leader of Secessionist NW Somalia, Dahir Riyaale Kahin. For Riyaale and apt title would be " Mugging the SNM, from the days of Siyad till today"
  21. The legend book will be interesting. Yusuf Yey will be remembered by many fondly. Eid Mubarak to all.
