Because i know people from those regions some prefer to be part of Ethiopia some say we can climb the ladder all the way up to the throne in Addis. But as you said the people the majority want to be independent from Ethiopia if given the chance but the dilemma comes what to do after independence. It will be more dangerous to keep silent about the future of the region, how about a referendum to join Somalia or not can that be an option?

Interesting the ONLF should be clear though what to do about the region when its independent because right now they don't have a clear policy they are just fighting for their independence, but they don't know what to do next.

Abtigiis are you saying the masses in Galbeed do not favor an Independent O'gaden state,If they are independent its all about the historical experience of a struggle and the common identity that is about to be shaped right now. Burahadeer:D

Burahadeer they don't want to use that name because the region was never part of the former Somali republic and under the so called theoretic principle of self determination they want to use the historic name of O'gaden. Since it was called the O'gaden country in the late 19 century Burahadeer Somalia doesn't claim the Somali galbeed region as part of Somalia any more. General Siad bare signed a peace deal with the late derg dictator Mengistu haille maryam in 1988, part of the deal was that the Somali republic would never ever claim the Somali galbeed region as part of their country. And Mengistu on his turn would expel the SNM Somaliland rebels from his country. But let me tell you this the O'gaden region was under various Abyssinian EmperorsYohannes Menelik haile selassie and later on the derg and now under the TPLF.When they gain their independence i don't think they will join with Somalia fighting for independence more than 128 years and than settle with being ruled from Mogadishu. There is a whole new identity in the making the youth from those regions call themselves O'gadenis now and days. The ONLF is also very vague about the future of the region they come with stuff like we will let the people decide.

Somaliland: Kenya-Somaliland to enhance Bi-lateral Relations Wednesday, 06 June 2012 22:04 From Left Dr Sifir, Dr Mohamed, Raila Odinga & Hon Hirs NAIROBI (Somalilandsun) - The Kenya government has termed Somaliland as an important partner in Horn Africa security. This was said Kenya prime minister Raila Amolo Odinga during a meeting he hosted for Somaliland ministers in his office in Nairobi where he also revealed that he will visit Hargeisa immediately after the imminent visit the president H.E. Ahmed Mahmoud Silanyo to Kenya. During the meeting which the Kenyan PM held with the Somaliland minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohamed Abdilahi Omar and the Presidency minister Hon Hirsi Ali H Hasan, as well as the country's envoy in Nairobi Dr Mahmoud Abdilahi Jam "Sifir" it was agreed that cooperation at all levels between the two countries should be enhanced in order to avail citizens security and improved livelihoods. While Dr Mohamed Omar arrived just before the meeting from Turkey where he led the country's delegation to the Istanbul conference, Hon Hirsi Ali has been in Nairobi for a couple of days organizing president Silanyo's visit to Kenya following an official invitation from PM Raila Odinga. Apart from the announcement that Somaliland is an important partner in Horn Africa regional security, and the need for enhanced bilateral relations as well as that Raila Odinga will make a reciprocal visit to Somaliland soon no further details of the meeting were divulged. The Kenyan prime minister Raila Amolo Odinga is a known friend of Somaliland having not only visited the country several times but has publicly declared his support for the country's prolonged quest for recognition as a sovereign nation. Though all these were when Raila was in the opposition, and since his appointment as prime minister he has been a regular participant in events organized by Kenyan Somalilanders in Nairobi. Since Raila joined the government his point man in Somaliland issues has been Hon Farah Ma'alim, the deputy speaker of the Kenya parliament who has visited Somaliland on various occasions either as delegation leader or individually. Farah Ma'alim who is of Somali origin has also raised the issue of Somaliland's recognition at the Kenyan parliament on several occasions. While Kenya is known to court Somaliland's support since its military incursion Somalia, purportedly to protect its citizens from the Al-shabaab terrorism menace, and Somaliland known to have brushed aside the courting, if Raila makes the right noises in the right places, the international community will have no excuse for recognizing Somaliland.

In the 80s the SNM were fighting in Somaliland and its no secret the garaad clan were part of the MOD alliance. They added a district of Sool that wasn't inhabited by the Garaad clan the caynabo district to the Sool region to create a predominate clan region for the Garaad clan. A base to attack the SNM from those regions in the 80s Ahmed Selebaan dafle General siad bares son inlaw created a Militia for his clan to fight the regimes clanish wars the regime armed those Militias to the teeth with brandnew Kalashnikovs and m16s. And they tried to halt the SNM from gaining more control in the country but it didn't work. Any way that's the past people need to move on today we are all Somalilanders one nation under god allahu akbar.

Muhammed haashi said no talks between Somaliland and Somalia since there is no real government in Somalia. The Koonfurians and Somalilanders are not brothers we are merely neighbors. We Somalilanders should never ever sit in the same room with the leaders of Somalia.
