  1. "The meaningful exchange" by Marge Piercy The man talks the woman listens The man is a teapot with a dark green brew of troubles. He pours into the woman. She carries his sorrows away sloshing in her belly. The man swings off lighter. Sympathy quickens him. He watches woman pass. He whistles. The woman lumbers away. Inside, his troubles are snaking up through her throat. Her body curls delicately about them, worrying, nudging them into some new meaningful shape squatting now at the center of her life. How much lighter I feel, the man says, ready for business. How heavy I feel, the woman Says; this must be love.
  2. ^ Malika, oo hada ma waxaad i leedahay, Che, kaleeti buu General section-ka oo dhan kala daalay oo dhulkaan oo dhan asaguu u oodanyahay? Laakin ma anaa ciyaar ciyaar ku haraya! Che, miciyahaaga soofeeyso ayaan ku leeyahay saaxiib. P.S Malika, waa su'aale: Which "territory" ayaa adiga lagaa dhex heleyaa?
  3. ^ Geesinimaduu muujiyey maxay tahay? Weriyaal lagu hor calaacaley ma geesinimaa? Hadii ey daacad ka tahay erayada maanta kasoo yeeray Ina Jimcaale, waa inuu ficilkeeda laga helaa.
  4. ^ Malika, don't you know Che failed the Road signs section of the written portion of his Driver license test...
  5. ^ You know letter writing is an "uphill battle", as they say...but someone has got to do it. Malika, walaahi been kuuma sheegayo...aad baan u jeclahay marmarka qaarkood filimada SOL lagu dhex jilo. Wayan brother meel fariista ayaa la dhahayaa.
  6. ^ Che, get your head out of the gutter man! Anagu jimicsigaanu ka hadleeno is of the intellectual kind.*wicked grin*
  7. ^ Xiin, Sheekadii ma waxay durba isku badashey..."Ballo majirto, haday jirtana, ma badna!"? Originally posted by Abdulladiif Al-Fiqih: I am with Xiin on this. I got this email and could not believe they are invoking the word "Somali" with the crime. We should all send our complaints to this....>> office@civilsocietyhelps.org ^ This reminds me of a scene in a comedy film by the Wayan brothers called White Chicks were Shawn and Marlon Wayans acting as FBI agents go undercover as two blond bimbos.
  8. ^ Che, I did, up until Scheherazade caught onto my jimicsi ambitions. I don't know, che, if you too, on the contrary, may be culpable like I am--Or are you? Scheherazade, I think it's time we got back to playing the game. New word: Guilty
  9. Originally posted by xiinfaniin: ^^Perhaps you are not young, but your post above is. It is akin to an underage kid who labored mightily to speak at an assembly of elders under acacia tree, where discussions of weighty nature were being held, who despite his efforts to sound deep only managed to bare his rookie nature. Evidence of media reporting on the ethnicity or religious association of criminal elements belonging to new immigrants is neither here nor there awoowe. We know it exists so mentioning it does not add any value to the discussion. If you are itching for argument with Odey Xiin , argue on the substance of his contention, not on its margins. Odey Xiinfaniin, I know you've been in a bad mood of late, and this most recent churlish outburst of yours is a prime example-- Marka Odey is daji! If remedying the deficiencies in your initial premise, by showing the gallery that the media's reference to a criminal's ethnic identity is not unique to Somalis alone, does not--as you put it-- "add any value to the discussion"...then all I can say is that, you Odey, are, like everyone else in here, entitled to your opinion. But you know what they say about opinions, right? "Everybody's got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks"! There is nothing special about Somali criminals. P.S A word to the readers...I never let a bellicose tone prevent me from setting our elders straight, what so ever...
  10. ^ I provide discreet and professional psychiatry services at very affordable prices @ "Am shattered though" Prescription medication will cost more.
  11. Dr.Jimcaale's remarks are facile, pointless and reminiscent of an uneducated person, because it seems to me, he is only after the limelight of media attention. I mean, why the hell is he making it look like the TFG is deliberately reneging on the so-called Galkacyo Accord, when we all know that the TFG is a nonentity in the affairs of most of Somalia and is politically incapable of implementing such an agreement or any other agreement for that matter, due to its own inefficacy and reckless mismanagement of its affairs. The TFG was never in the past and is not in the present, in a position to give Puntland what it wants-- and as such, it is foolish to get mad at an entity that is weak, ineffective and could NEVER deliver the goods in the first place! Or maybe, Mr. Jimcaale is only showing us that he is a hard-working Minister for "Democratization and Federal Affairs"? Maybe he wants to tell us, like the Ministers of Education and Health of Puntland, who are so far doing a great job in fulfilling their obligations to the people, he too is diligent, tireless and assiduous when it comes to fulfilling his duties as a Minister ? I believe his Ministerial post is a waste of time and money, and President Faroole should eliminate it, unless this guy sticks to programs that will ONLY yield tangible results for the people of Puntland! Important programs, like first preparing the state for District level elections and in the near future, state-wide General elections. This should be his focus and priority, not frothing at the mouth at Sheikh Dalxiis & Co.

  13. ^ Lol @ "poltergeist" Hey Scheherazade, was it Nuune's apparent poltergeist activities that kept you up all of last night? Or was it your attempted "taming" of Mr.Somalia's eclectic ramblings and somewhat debonair nature that caused your sleepless night?
  14. Originally posted by chocolate & honey: quote: Dadyowga kaleba intaa waxbay bi’iyaane, lamana magac dhebo …inta danbiga gashay baa garsoorka lala tiigsadaa…ma fahamtay? I have yet to hear or read a report on ‘Swede’ crimes up in Duluth, or a ‘German’ violent racism in St. Cloud …no Norwegian or Finish crimes are reported. It’s either Black violence in North Minn., Hmongs in East St. Paul, or Somalis everywhere in the state I guess you're just noticing the disaprity between whites and nonwhites when it comes to the media. White people ma la kala saaro. But other minorities waa la kala saaraa wadanaka: Mexican burglar,Hmong drunk-driver, Somali gang, Black assailant. It may seem that we are being singled out and maybe we are for our differences but wouldn't you agree that some of it we brought it on ourselves? There is nothing more interesting(as far as America is concerned)than people who isolate themselves. Look at what the media does to the Mormons, a very Christian group. I wanna take issue with your comment that,"White people ma la kala saaro", because just like any other ethnicity, I believe Whites like everyone else are classified depending on their ethnicity whenever they commit a crime. For instance, haven't you ever heard the mention of the criminal escapades of the 'Italian' Mafia, the 'Russian' Mafia or the 'Colombian' and 'Mexican' Cartels in the mainstream media? I'm sure you have. In fact, I found an article where the Armenian community-- like Odey Xiinfaniin-- oo ka calaacalaya why the hell the name of their ethnic community was being splashed everywhere in the media when the FBI busted an Armenian Medicare fraud ring. They said, references to their ethnicity are "Irrelevant, Troubling and Offensive"(Just like Odey Xiinfaniin ). You were right when you first proclaimed that "Americans are big on race", and understandably so, because the U.S.A remains the biggest melting pot of races in the world. This is why Somalis ought not get too hot and bothered every time the word 'Somali' is associated with a criminal or a bad individual. They must understand that they are not being singled out; even though I feel these days, due to America's so called "war on terror", Muslims in general are demonized and their actions are exaggerated to colossal proportions by the media-- And because of all this media attention and scrutiny, we find ourselves in the Public eye more than we would like to, especially when we fall on the wrong side of the law.
  15. "Ulysses" by Alfred Lord Tennyson It little profits that an idle king, By this still hearth, among these barren crags, Match’d with an aged wife, I mete and dole Unequal laws unto a savage race, That hoard, and sleep, and feed, and know not me. I cannot rest from travel: I will drink Life to the lees: All times I have enjoy’d Greatly, have suffer’d greatly, both with those That loved me, and alone, on shore, and when Thro’ scudding drifts the rainy Hyades Vext the dim sea: I am become a name; For always roaming with a hungry heart Much have I seen and known; cities of men And manners, climates, councils, governments, Myself not least, but honour’d of them all; And drunk delight of battle with my peers, Far on the ringing plains of windy Troy. I am a part of all that I have met; Yet all experience is an arch wherethro’ Gleams that untravell’d world whose margin fades For ever and forever when I move. How dull it is to pause, to make an end, To rust unburnish’d, not to shine in use! As tho’ to breathe were life! Life piled on life Were all too little, and of one to me Little remains: but every hour is saved From that eternal silence, something more, A bringer of new things; and vile it were For some three suns to store and hoard myself, And this gray spirit yearning in desire To follow knowledge like a sinking star, Beyond the utmost bound of human thought. This is my son, mine own Telemachus, To whom I leave the sceptre and the isle,— Well-loved of me, discerning to fulfil This labour, by slow prudence to make mild A rugged people, and thro’ soft degrees Subdue them to the useful and the good. Most blameless is he, centred in the sphere Of common duties, decent not to fail In offices of tenderness, and pay Meet adoration to my household gods, When I am gone. He works his work, I mine. There lies the port; the vessel puffs her sail: There gloom the dark, broad seas. My mariners, Souls that have toil’d, and wrought, and thought with me— That ever with a frolic welcome took The thunder and the sunshine, and opposed Free hearts, free foreheads—you and I are old; Old age hath yet his honour and his toil; Death closes all: but something ere the end, Some work of noble note, may yet be done, Not unbecoming men that strove with Gods. The lights begin to twinkle from the rocks: The long day wanes: the slow moon climbs: the deep Moans round with many voices. Come, my friends, ’Tis not too late to seek a newer world. Push off, and sitting well in order smite The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths Of all the western stars, until I die. It may be that the gulfs will wash us down: It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles, And see the great Achilles, whom we knew. Tho’ much is taken, much abides; and tho’ We are not now that strength which in old days Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts, Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
  16. ^ Prom, while we appreciate your thorough explanation(which was filled with many nuggets of information)-- I thought it was unnecessarily pedantic. I know you intentions were honorable, but please keep it short and simply next time, as the originator of this thread first importuned of us. Trust me on this one, I found out the hard way! Originally posted by *Pujah*: Rules: post one or two English words and the next person will post the Somali version of that word, try not to post explanations. 17. ^ Here watch this silly clip (about 8mins)...It sucks and it will hopefully bore you to sleep.
  18. ^ Have you tried drinking a glass of warm milk? That usually does it for me.
  19. ^ I am, but that's besides the point. If my translation wont suffice, how else would you define 'Phyche' in Af Soomaali without harking back to Greek Mythology?
  20. ^ Maad iska tiraahdid wixii haween oo dhan la murma. Psyche= Qalbiga New word: Ego?

Now it your turn: Defeatist!...Like Scheherazade refuses to confront her defeatist attitudes and understand that her pursuit for general knowledge is placed at risk by not taking up the latest challenge in this thread.
  22. ^ Odey Xiin-- it seems you are in a bad mood today, ee bal iga raali ahow!
  23. ^ What? Did you not understand me? Was I speaking Chinese to you, Awoowe?
  24. ^^ Thankful, I laughed at that too, but don't bother with it, because Xaaji Marduuf is probably just getting up from his overnight marqaan and needs to appease his reverist inclinations.
  25. ^ All the blame lies with the parents of these wretched deviants. It is time Somali parents took responsibility for their failure in raising decent children.
