Had some bad weather during my Ireland and UK trip, but nevertheless I had a really good holiday. Good to see some of you SOL mates Just wanted to share these pictures that I took when I was at Greenwich, London. It was sunset, a live band was jazzing and the atmosphere was amazing...

I have to go to Cardiff (agony, agony), and hopefully quickly move on to Manchester, Liverpool (anything under water there?). lol NGONGE, No I'm not a Beatles fan... do they have a Beatles museum, beatles tour in Liverpool? Perhaps if I have nothing better to do. Thanks Zenobia! Camden Market - in London??

    What a wuss!

Whatever the cause, aggression pays off for female spotted hyenas -- the most masculinized females in the animal kingdom... female masculinization is apparently a very successful strategy...

ThePoint, which society is not more or less xenophobic? I find swedish people to be very kind and polite, perhaps not the most open-minded or accommodating ones, but for families there are great opportunities for their kids to grow up in a safe environment, with good education, health care and social welfare system. If I may generalise, I think for many somalis the nomad life aya dhiiga kaga jirta, going from one place to another finding their home wherever there is buuq iyo bulsho. North lol... I know what you mean but it's not islaamo that I fear, but my cousins who all got married at a young age, and are now having on average one child every other year (is there some kind of competition among the somali girls in UK?). I love them and I love kids, but I don't want to spend my holiday in kindergarten. Why not Liverpool by the way? Legend from Zu mountains and Dhubad, thanks I'A I'll enjoy my trip. Oh, dear Lily mucho gracias sis... that was good info really. be prepared for a bit of eyeing up in Southall, and yes this is still the case even if you wear a ninja style jilbaab, just don’t make eye contact whatever you do ^^lol I'll wear sunglasses  What is Iman in Wood Green?

Finally my vacation begins next week. I had planned to spend most of my holiday in UK this year, and I'm a bit worried by the reports about floodings in England, not to mention all the terrorist activities going on (sounding like the average swede), how do you British people cope with all this There must be something extraordinary with your island, considering the number of somalis in scandinavia leaving for UK, we haven't seen this kind of emigration in scandinavian history since the colonization of America. At that time it was poverty that fueled the migration, today there is no such thing (!?) so what is the driving force?? I will come and see the promised lands of the united kingdom with my own eyes (well mostly London), the question is where should one start, what to see, what to avoid... is there a Somali's-guide-to-London by the way?
  7. ^^Wouldn't it be to obvious who's got the hots for you or not. If what you're saying was true then there would be a lot of wild speculations about who lowered whose gaze for whom, or not... imagine if no one ever lowered their gaze for you... what would that mean  On a serious note, lowering one's gaze is about modesty and maintaining a respectful relationship, regardless of what you feel for the opposite sex.
  8. Yet another meaningless violence, I thought I had been deaden by this kind of reporting. The killings in Iraq are like a weather forecast – today, where, how many killed, injured... Violence and injustice occur everywhere and does not discriminate between good or bad people unfortunately, but this horrific crime against Abukah took me off guard. It is one thing to be killed, once you’re dead you’re dead, but what makes me literally sick to my stomach is that this poor boy was chased, he was scared, running for his life subhanallah, surrounded and knew probably what was coming....
  9. This story gave me the chills. This is so sad, poor kid! http://www.guardian.co.uk/gun/Story/0,,2135784,00.html
  10. There is nothing new under the sun in Israeli politics when it comes to Israeli antisemitism (anti-Arabs that is), human rights violation, war crimes etc. etc. One can talk about it, write, shout or fight about it, but nothing will change, it hasn't changed after 50 years of struggle. No more tears left for the humiliated people of Palestine - a sympathy that is of no good for them, so why even bother...
  11. ^^ Thanks to your link Dhulqarnayn, the only black invention thing left is biscuit cutter, hair brush, and ice cream scooper... According to the homepage, not even peanut butter was invented by black people - he/she actually investigated in this!!
  12. Mj Red Sea, I'm way into the northern hemisphere Hargeisa is really nice, but if I'd ever move to S/Land, I would settle down somewhere in buuraha sheekh.
  13. JB, what made you bring up this old topic
  14. She seems to enjoy the attention... hmmm... perhaps the whole story is a set up?
  15. Peacenow , it’s true we should be proud of who we are, but I don’t know about your argument that Arabs are brainwashing us. I think we’re doing a good job in demeaning ourselves, no need to blame other people for that. By the way, you’re accusing Arabs of being racists, while you at the same time using disparaging remarks about Arabs. Interesting list of black inventions. I assume you’ve posted this list to make us aware and proud of what black people have contributed to mankind. However, considering the things mentioned, I’m thinking, if that’s all we have invented I rather live in ignorance and still believe we’ve accomplished much more. Some of the stuff listed is really ludicrous: automatic fishing device, biscuit cutter, folding bed, hair brush, ice cream scooper, straightening comb. ...why even bother to mention these??
  16. ^^Do you permanently live in Hargeisa now??
  17. North ,good to hear you've made it to Burco! Didn't see any NGO's when I was there last summer, rumour says Burco is a dangerous town for "gaalo". I met a German guy once who told me in af somali "Burco waa la isku gawracaa".
  18. From a believers point of view: The authenticity of the Quraan as a miracle should not depend on whether a scientific discovery re-confirms the words of the holy book or not. The Quraan is my guidance, and science my tool to understand the dimensions my Creator has put me into. Humbleness fills my heart, the more I understand the complexity of my reality, and it is He who has created this that I worship, regardless if it is stated in the Quraan or in a scientific journal.

  21. lol why do I get the feeling CG and JB are trying to make me more confused... Originally posted by Caano-Geel Maybe not, at the most pedantic level, we never actually reach anywhere or touch anything.. I had no idea, really interesting... but what the heck does that have to do with the paradox?? Origanlly posted by JB 16/64 = 1/4 that fraction is correct right? good. now if Zenon came to that conclusion by canceling a 6 from top and a 6 from bottom and concludes that the fraction 16/64 equals one fourth reasoning, that he canceled equal number from both the numerator and the denominator , and anybody who claims that i'm wrong is welcome to work it out and come to a different conclusion. I'm pretty sure you have a very very good point here JB, but from my perspective it's like I've asked you to help me solve a second degree equation and you reply "a square has four sides right......now if you measure the length on all four sides and add them togehter you'll have the perimeter, now prove me wrong" ummm, again, what is the obvious thing that I'm missing here!
  22. JB and CG... You guys make it sound so easy! Anyway, CG's magic ruler was a good illustration of the problem, and I understood that part. But what bothers me is that although Zenon's reasoning seems correct, the conclusion is for sure wrong. So there has to be something incorrect with Zenon's paradox... right? Castro lol, who said Achilles wore heels
  23. The only time I pick up an old dusty book from my shelf is when I'm sick at home from work. And today, after getting tired with crappy tv sitcoms or surfin the net, I found a book about philosophy. In one of the chapters I found an interesting, mind-puzzling story called Zenon's paradox. The story is about the greek hero Achilles, the fastest man in town, who will race with an old turtle. Since Achilles is a fast runner and the turtle is slow, Achilles gives the turtle some advantage by giving him a head start. The simple question is then who will win the race? The obvious answer is Achilles, but according to the old greek philosopher Zenon, if one uses strict logic, Achilles can never win this race... why? Well the book says that once Achilles has reached where the turtle started the turtle has bridged some distance - not much but still - which Achilles now has to run in order to catch up. And in this time again the turtle has gone for some distance and Achilles is still in behind of the turtle. This process continues forever and Achilles will never be able to pass the turtle. I'm not sure I understood it right, but I guess that this really tiny tiny distance the turtle covers each time is divided into smaller and smaller distances that Achilles need to catch up, and because the distance is divided in ad infinitum, forever, Achilles will never win... does it make sense? But then again we know for sure that Achilles will win, so what is it that is wrong with Zenon's paradox? Is it so that the Zenon's logic doesn't take into account that the speed is different for Achilles and the turtle, or is it something else?
  24. ^^ You could do better wit than that NGONGE
  25. ^^ Inshaallah you'll have a good time in Hargeisa. Was there last summer and the city was really booming!
