^^ I didn't look too deeply into his background but, from reading his stories, I reckon he's one of yours (Nairobi lot). (Alpha would say uuf at this point). p.s. I quickly glanced over two of the stories. One is about a mentally disturbed lesbian and the other is about two gay men (all Somali).

^^ To call you a GAAL would have the same meaning as calling you an atheist, Jew or even MUSLIM. It in no way can be compared to calling you the N word. Wax fahan.
-
^^ He's written a few "good" short stories. Can you guess the sexual preference of the heros in his stories?

I can't think of any context where the N word could be used in a nice way. The G word is mostly used to describe or refer to someone. It's the one thing the Brits, French and Italians had in common (from a Somali point of view).

^^ One phrase; Casting Couch!

^^There is more to it than that. Or else, why would he confuse the issue of colour which any person can see to that of faith. War we have to test him now and get him to recite the full national anthem of Puntland or something.

^^ I didn't know you were white!

Apophis;882821 wrote: Do you guys even realise the word ‘gaal' or ‘gaalo' has a hateful connotation? Depends on the context surely. For example, if I introduced you to a new SOL member I would say "this is Apophis, waa gaal". It will be simply to inform. If Che introduced you he'll say "this is Apophis, waa GAAL". It will be to warn. Wax fahan, gaal yaho xun.

Somali journalists are ragtag bunch and will not use this sad event to highlight the problems they are facing. The IC has its own advisers and experts on the region who are aware of the tension already existing there, saaxib. They will need stronger proof that Al Shabab are implicated in this killing. It's a non story really.

^^ It proves that his passport was not confiscated, that he was not removed at gun point and that (at the least) you were very hasty when reporting your news.

^^ Two full teams, saaxib. They have weekly football games. So far, the children lead the maids by five points.

Xaaji Xunjuf;882991 wrote: NGONGE are you comparing a journalist held in custody for a few hours with a murdered reporter of the universal tv. Yes I am. When an entire adminstration treats such men as nothing but petty criminals and arrests them at every turn, are you surprised that the masses would go a step further and kill them? In both cases, the journalist is "mistreated" because of a disagreement with his reporting style or opinions. Wax fahan.

^^ Vultures and dead bodies (they don't burry their dead).
-
Che, Not much milage in it when the government itself arrests and mistreats journalists. If my opinion is worth anything I would suggest that this presents an opportunity for the journalists themselves to highlight their own plight and use these events to force the government to mend its own ways. For as the Arabs say, اذا كان رب الدارللدف ضاربا فشيمة اهل البيت الرقص (if the head of the house keeps beating the drums, dancing becomes a habit of his household).

^^ The surprise would have taken place here regardless of the method of burial. At least it's not like the Dakhma of the Ahura Mazda followers!
-
^^ Were you as elusive with your answer when replying to her too? War sheekay rabtay; you should have said that you liked them all except one guy. Then you go on to tell her a story about something totally unrelated. Bahasha baro.

^^ So no gun point then?

^^ How about Diriye Osman? :D A gay Somali writer and "visual artist" http://www.diriyeosman.com/archive
