  1. They're all brave and full of hot air but there is not one reasonable person amongst them. Heh! The place was full of women and children and no reasonable man should start an argument where there are women and children (no matter the provocation or reasons). Had someone thrown a punch or the guy threatening to mace people carried his threat through, what would have become to those kids and women who would have been caught in the middle? Standing up for your rights (dollar parking you useless peasents?) is all well and good but, before that, one needs to show signs of being a responsible and reasonable adult. Nothing in that disturbing video shows any of these ****** to be any of this.
  2. As ever, the xamaasad takes over and Maaddeey ties himself in circles as a result. First of all, one has to look at the topic of conversation here. Is eating a "waraabe" xalaal or xaraam. Well, according to most sunni madhabs, it IS xalaal. So, if the argument is one about Islamic positions, there really should not be any argument at all. Unless, of course, one chooses to declare that they belong to the one madhab that considers such an act xaraam. If the argument is about the disgust related to eating such an animal, then Maaddeey is right here and the issue becomes one of "taste". I personally would not eat one of those things but on the other hand, I also could never bring myself to eat camel meat (having tried that fatty, hard and bland meat before). I believe Al Shabab to be a misguided and TERRORIST group who cause nothing but harm for the innocent Somali muslims. However, and going by the argument of "gaalka dil.....", I also believe that the majority of these madmen are sincere in their application of their "understanding" of the faith. It's their haste, their arrogant belief that they're the only "keepers of the faith" and their naval gazing propensity to recreate a bygone enviornment and conditions in a world that has long since moved on rather than concentrating on the spritual aspect of the faith that I choose to criticise. It is why they would take pride in eating a hayena (when all other kinds of good food are available) or consider that dress sense of theirs as some sort of fundamental article of faith. Wax fahma.

    Would you?

Dead friends's spouse? Bah! I'd marry his mother, if the need arises.
  4. The beauty of the socalled progress is that EVERYONE claims to have started it (Sharmarke.Farmaajo and Abdulwali). But these guys are fighting over scraps really. Sheikh Sharif will claim that he defeated Al Shabab.
  5. ^^ The IC will have their own agenda ninyaho. Naga daa dee. To be honest, I would love it if you discuss the MPs and their expected choices rather than this "western" way of picking out names that don't really matter in our street politics. Wax fahan dee. Work out the number of MPs and break them down into "sure bet", "can be bribed", "unkown quantity", "dreamers" and "IC stooges". Then try to see how many each candidate is likely to get and who (in this purly impartial experiment) is going to win.
  6. Meel sigaar laga cabo lagama waayo hadana wuxu na leeyahay "anigo sigaaarka ma cabo". Mosh macqool!
  7. ^^ Aha! You should have run with the 30% women idea from the start dee. The rest is all politics.
  8. ^^ I still don't get it. Why is her support that important? Who are the ones outside? (IC?)
  9. ^^ I was being my usual self. He was being his usual self. It looks like he got upset. Naga daa.
  10. Does her support matter to those who will choose the president? Come on boys, you're not really saying that those deliberating over the choice of president will all suddenly agree on cabdelwali the minute they are told "tii dhuxusha ka hor jeeday ayaa taageersan". Naga daaya dee.
  11. ^^ :D..and breath......
  12. ^^ Not at all, Alpha. I see nothing in that article that shows Nadifa to be a sellout or self hating. If anything, she comes across as being very patriotic. In the context of this article however, she got the balance wrong. Had the title been "The eternal nomads find a British hero" or something along those lines, I would have appluaded this article of hers. But a strong title that says they're nomads NO MORE then goes on to prove the opposite is a bit of a let down to be honest. Chimara, I read the entire article three times, saaxib. Yes, I know, I am tedious like that. The only conclusion about your twaddle above is either that you can't read or you're just full of BS. I can obviously see that you can read. Naga daa dee.
  13. ^^ I'd love to ride that made wave that you're forever on, saaxib. But, here on dry land, the article gives one title and then goes on mainly talking about people returning back to Somalia, etc. In fact, the body of the article does not (really) say much about the difference that Mo's win will make for UK Somalis. It's all about the "some will stay" and "some will go" fence sitting that you're sharing with me here. Something that would have likely happened regardless of Mo's win. Where is the impact? What was the point of the article and how does the title relate to any of it? (save for the couple of sentences at the end and the sub title at the top?). Ayeeyo, You make it sound like I was against it, ayeeyo. I dedicated an entire thread to the amazing ability of Somalis to be noticed and don't at all feel that (for me at least) Mo has done anything new. It's a different story for my kids who simply adore the guy (along with all the other Brits winners). Anyway, as I told someone else in another place, can you imagine if some of the pirates were taking part in the Olympics? They're great rowers who break world records to try to get to a target ship. They're great swimmers when they fall into the water and they would probably make great water polo swimmers (from their ability to throw grandes to ship decks from such big distances). I needent talk about the shooting competitions, sailing, gymnastics, pole vault or the hammer. :D
  14. Can just picture a meeting of fresh Somalis in an ESOL class sharing anecdotes about "barigee aan isdhiibay". Surely, "I took part in the London Olympics" will trump any stories of high seas or mountain crossings that others may share. Heh. (What will be will be).
  15. Chimera;856175 wrote: ^I actually think she nailed it. Somalis in Britain are the oldest African community, but outside of old pictures of Somali Sailors in British ports, you would never know, and most people think we arrived with the Vietnamese and Afghans. This is because those Somali communities were like an eb and flow, changing with the fortunes of the Somali Republic. In good times, many would take their hard-earned money and settle back in the homeland, in bad times these same men would bring their families to the host country, and now that the fortunes are beginning to change for the better many will make a back-migration, and this could be considerably large. If Somalia were to have another dictatorship or god forbid a civil-war in thirty years time, the Somalis arriving in Britain would most likely again have to start from scratch unless a substantial group of professionals remains in the country dating from our current era. Nadifa was also spot on the dead, static and uncool Somali entertainment industry of today that our kids want nothing to do with. Somali songs are all dated, Somali films are an embarassment, almost all Somali novels always leave a ''bad taste in your mouth'', however the likes of K'naan, Nadifa, Rageh Omaar, Mataano, Mo Ali, Mo Farah, and dozens of other rising and established icons are a good start, and will shape a modern Somali identity the kids can grab with both hands. You just repeated what Nadifa said on her article, saaxib. How does what you say (and she said) fit in with the title NOMADS NO MORE?
  16. *Ibtisam;856429 wrote: Mo Farah should win BBC Sports Personality of The Year after that - no better performance, no better story. #TrueBritishHero" * Note to Denis Lewis - tight dress, jumping up and down with 3 men in the same room as you - I know what they were thinking.... Andy Murray got to the Wimbeldon final (first Brit to do it in god knows how many years) and won an Olympic gold in the space of two months (not to mention the Bronze in the mixed doubles). He can proudly challange Mo there but I have a feeling Mo will have the edge. However, the man that is odd on favourite to win the BBC Sports Personality of the year is Bradley Wiggins; first Brit to win the Tour De France and first man to combine that with an Olympic gold in the same year. Mo, of course, is likely to be knighted by the end of the year (they did the same to Kelly Holmes when she won her two gold medals). p.s. Denis Lewis is a real stunner! The TV pictures don't do her any justice (saw her in the olympic park earlier today or was that yesterday?). p.p.s LANDER, you forgot to add Mahamed Suliman (another Mo) who won bronze in the 1500 for Qatar in the Barcelona Olympics.
  17. ^^ Roadmap marka laga gudbo you obviously have a person in mind who you consider an odds on favourite dee. Roll the dice ninyaho (you already put in the qualifier that all candidates are good anyway). Ramadan kareem to you and yours.
  18. ^^ I have to be, I live at the heart of the storm. If I am not British, who is, The Queen?
  19. ^^ Heh. It's been bad for Australia this year, has it not? But don't feel bad, those Canadians hardly ever win anything.
  20. Way to kill the conversation, Buuxo. (salaam by the way). Ibti do you actually do all the stitiching and stuff? Can't you borrow Alpha's maid or something?
  21. Sayid, khayer saaxib. Nabad. Boqolka iyo boqol. Aad iyo aad. Illahay mahaadi. Fiican badan. Tamaam tamaam. But I can't wait for ramadan to finish (i'm done with the sleepless nights and I can't do all this pretending about loving it and whatnot ninyaho). I supported both men last week and was happy for GB's 25 gold medals. So nin ingrees ma ahe? My baasaboor says so.
  22. ^^ Sometimes my Somali lets me down (though not recently). I can read ENGLISH though. "I will be surprised if a certain candidate loses given the stack of factors currently in place that favor him." (wax fahan).
  23. Much as I admire Nadifa I feel this article of hers missed the mark in a great way. The title and body of the article do not really fit and she seems lost between talking about the "idea" of being British and that of being a Somali. On the other hand, maybe the confusion is deliberate!
  24. Midna dibado ku dhashay adn the other dibado ku raagay. But the Taxi driver is correct on all counts.
  25. ^^ Soo ogow maxaa keenay dee? Adiga og, maad o sheegtid! I like how Xiin says "his" candidate will win but can't bring himself to say the name of this candidate. Heh.
