  1. I know the "women" sub-forum is where threads like this generally go, but there's more traffic in the general sub-forum :)

Can you describe some of the mixed gender Somali weddings you've attended? How did they organize it? Were people comfortable enough to dance (thinking of the islaamo and their buraanbur and other stuff too, was that still done with men present?)? I don't go to weddings often so I'm curious about how this all works.

I came across this video that seems to have pulled it off well, but it looks like they had a men's event at the masjid for the nikah and a women's only bridal shower (where shaash saar and all took place) ahead of a mixed reception. But would it be possible to do it all in one event?

It is not just Maansoor, the whole country has a very bad internet connection. But I think all the major cities and towns in Somaliland will have fiber optic connection by the end of this year if they don't delay it yet again.

I thought the internet in SL was quite good. Amazing actually, when you compare it to internet in Ethiopia.

  3. He's definitely a strong orator and a charming politician, and I enjoyed the first part of the speech where he is firm about the indigeneity and belonging of Somalis to Kenya, given a political climate where they are perceived as perpetual outsiders and unwanted foreigners in the country. But the later part of the speech is the same old, asking Somalis to dismantle their "supa pawa" squad, turn in the bombers, etc and trying to convince them that he will handle the police and state violence, as though he has ever represented their interests or has been anything but a government lackey in office.

  4. So here are the full lyrics if anyone is interested, the video I posted above is missing a few lines so here's everything:
