  1. MKA Yoonis: I am really ignorant when it comes to Somali Scholars. Can someone enlighten me? I'd like a brief biographical sketch of those scholars Rahima considers to be incomparable (Shariif Cabdi Nuur,Umal or Mustafa or Cukaasha) and those that you consider to be "patron saints" (Gacamey). I don't know any of them.

Are there any websites dedicated to them?

Please don't tell me that Somalis evaluate scholars in terms of where they're from. That's pure madness.

  2. xiinfaniin, duqa, don't be toothless horse now. Dude, let me repeat it. Publising the capture of these men will hinder the arleady fragile peace. That's why I don't think it should be publicized. Comprende?

Besides, if you have problems with anything I said in other threads, then post it there. Tell me why it's wrong. Don't save up all your criticism and then write a one liner insult. Gimme a break!

  3. NGONGE, sometimes I wonder if SOL and other internet outlets are indicative of what's on the ground. If expatriate Somalis support things purely for clannish purposes, it would make sense that Somalis in Somalia are equally, if not more, clannish. Strangely enough, I still don't think this is the case.

I think most residents of Mogadishu support any government irrespective of who runs it. Hordes of people welcomed the Prime Minister and President. I think most people are more war weary than they are clannish. Obviously, there are some residents of Mogadishu who oppose anything and everything this government stands for, but they are a minority. If they weren't a minority, the government would suffer more than small skirmishes in the capital.

Lastly, Ali Mahdi, Abdi Qasim Salad and other giant politicians (former) have met with the President and supported the government, although I'm sure with some caveats. Even the former warlords agreed to disarm. This is a national effort. Puntlanders alone don't have the wherewithal to bring all of this together. It's a collective Somali effort. I hope for the best.

  4. ^^ Abu Paragon's reasoning: the government belongs to the tribe of the president (the puntlanders). Dude, is this how cultivated a liberal arts or humanities education makes you? I always knew all those Somalis who studied Political Science and other arts programs were not so bright. Look no further than Paragon. LOL.

Anyhow, the government is run by a group of men who hail from different parts of Somalia. These group of men have powerful political advisers (Ethiopia, US). That's all.

I've seen some people who support the TFG because they think it belongs to their sub-sub clans. There are others who don't support it because they think it belongs to certain sub-clans. Both groups are, as NGNONGE would say, obtuse and duplicitous. The government "belongs" to all Somalis regardless of what some deluded proponents and opponents say.

  5. ^^ LOL. People, people, it's called hadith science 101. Someone gives you a testimony about what someone else said, or about an event that happened. Believe it or not, before you accept their testimony, they have to exhibit intellectual competence (along with piety and other factors). So, I don't accept what full time goat-herders and shoe-makers say. Oh yes, this also includes animals and plants.

Ayyoub, is that the secessionist flag I see in your avatar. What did the SNS, spy-turned-president, Daahir Riyaale, say when he went to Ethiopian capital. I hear, he took a bouqet of flowers with him. LOL.

  6. ^^ Castro, I bet "shopper" here is just some sort of euphemism for a butcher, ama habar hilibka iibisa. I don't think the testimony of butchers, night watchmen, and goat-herders are credible. What do the intellectuals of the cities say? The Doctors, Professors, and literate folks? Dude, you should be a little more discriminating in your sources.

Taking the statements of shoppers and wikepedia as gospel truth, eh? Priceless
