  1. How about saving lil here and there first. Investing 30% of that lil saving in biz with respectable profit margin let say in Africa or in UEA -- Somali run biz that is. The profit margin of the biz in East Africa for instance is 30 to 40%. Can't beat that. Hold your horses if you wanna say something about risky. Friends risk is the name of the game. No pain no gain soo ma ahayn. Wax ha la tabco akhyaarta that's one of the ways of getting somewhere in life. Ambition, fire in the belly, something other than womanizing, overdressing, partying, pulling all nighter in khat session! Kujecli, Ur Awoowe.
  2. ^ Gediid there is Kelligii Muslim and there is Daaci. Don mix the two. I'm sure the encounter you had in the restuarant involved well-intentioned but untrained Kelligii-Muslim. Still they have my respect. For they are trying to make a difference which in itself is noble thing. Be a good listener and praise them for the effort and then and obnly then tell them that they got this lil tiny weeney cilad which needs to be corrected.
  3. Wildy is back. Awoowe now you know. Admin take a note there are enough of Ali beysteen -- not sure what that means but since Wildy thought that characterization is worthy of my cyber character I'm positive it is a good thing -- members wanting a room to count their cents.
  4. ^Wisdom right there. Prof waa runtii. Welcome to SOL forum. Haddii lagugu aabyoodo wiil hoog la yiri Libaaxyaduu la fara ka cayaara baa ragga ku jiro ee ha la i tilmaamo dheh.
  5. ^Her point is crystel ThePoint What's your problem buddy *big grin* Ismahaan, I don't know about the "greatest desire" part but sure some of us do have a dream of their own. One area I struggled to break free from is finance. I would love to attain that fleeting financial freedom but so far not so good. I feel sorry for some of my colleagues who suck up to their bosses sometimes in a degrading way just to hold on to their position and get a good grade at the end of the year when annual review is in order. I thought about it and it downed on me that the idea to have security in employment area is "the" most important thing in this side of the globe. You see we may not have the boat, or that harley or that five bedroom house in that nice neighborhood but at least we are free to back up and try our fortunes elsewhere if things don't work out for us. Not so with some of the folks I work with or befriended during my stay here. Some of them are deep in dept and I mean deep. Breaks your heart sometimes cuz once you become a debtor you are owned awoowe.
  6. Qallanjo posted good info there. No Skipper. Far from it. Riddle ku lahaa Skipper and ThePoint well have you guys ever heard credit. Well isn't that how debt gets generated in the first place? Skipper, for instance, eyes that PS3 Sony gadget and he figures this holiday -- with all the nice price breaks -- is the best time to buy the damn thing. He doesn't have the cash though so he slides his American Express and wala he takes home the price he's been eying all these months. Now Skipper didn't have the money to begin with. He could live without PS3 too, right? Now tell me guys did he or didn't he spend money he didn't have on a gadget he didn't need. Another good example would be the iPhone or the new iPod. PS: Akhyaarta maxaa dhacay oo aad screenka u hor taagan tihiin yoomul ciidka?

  11. I wonder how many Somali men the poster has dated, befriended (platonic), or married to reach the conclusion inherent in her question. Somalis like any other ethnic group have their character flaws and shortcomings, of course, but reading some of the comments posted by the members about Somalis it really makes you wonder where this apparent low self-steem is stemming!!!
  12. FARIID has not been as silent as he would like us to belief nd looks like he is a making noise about being a silent reader The man has expressed his views thirty nine times for crying out loud
  13. Clueless? No that's not it dhuubo.
  14. ^Buy low, sell high is what my old man used to say about business. He was on the money Back to kashafa's point. Here is a question for you all. What do you make of folks who spend money they don't have on things they don't need?
  15. Hambalyo akhyaarta. Ciid wanaagsan oo wacan.
  16. Allah yarxama. Samir iyo iimaan dhuubo. Get the rest of fam out if that is possible.
  17. ^Gotta love Kelligii Muslims of this world. Awoowe Mr. Oodweyne's flimsy and hypocritical nonsense has been dealt with. Quit being a cheerleader to those who practice rendition and serve the junta in Addis in diff capacity. Military rank is just that, a rank. It doesn’t imply leadership nor does it bestow valor on the title holders. Inna Yussuf is colonel and for you to take an issue with my calling him colonel instead of president speaks volumes of your biases. As to Ceyrow's divisiveness (he broke ranks with UIC leadership), his inexperience in geopolitical game (arguably he has no clue about the forces he is up against), and his suicidal tendencies (hits and runs, kills one Tigre and exposes thousands of civilians for the their wrath) -- all these are shortcomings. His preoccupation of far away conflicts in Afghanistan, his tactics at home, awoowe all these are open for discussion. Likewise if you feel to talk about Inna Yussuf and the TFG he heads go ahead and initiate another thread. I will be there. Pointing finger at me and nitpicking quotes made elsewhere, out of context, are not a substitute for an argument.
  18. Count me in Allah willing. Volunteers are the way to go for they don't take a penny out of the money set aside for this cause whereas employing the locals (makes sense by the way) entails spending money out of the fund. Good topic dhuubo.
  19. I can't watch the youtube right now for obvious reasons. Nevertheless this is a very contraversial issue in the states. I kinda feel lil bit bad about the fact that I tend to agree with conservatives and the evangalical crowd on the basic intelligent design thesis that there are supreme power that has a hand in creating life and regulating what we call the natural law (gravity, cosmic movements, as well as the laws that govern the sub atomic interactions) -- a group I strongly disagree in many other areas. I guess this is one area that one must question the basic premises of evoluation theory -- not diversity nor the reality of evolution but the notion that replaces the supreme being with natural selection as the creative power that's behind the life on this universe as we know it. There is a good book that goes by the name of Darwin on Trail -- very popular book that touched the nerve of the neo-Darwinists of the day, the big cats like Dawkins and J. Gould of Harvard. What Phillip Johnson does, that's authors name by the way, is he gathers all the scietific evidence that underpins the evolution theory, and proceeds to dismantle them one by one and the end of the book he proves that based on what we know no one can't take the role of the the said Supreme Being out of the creation process. He doesn't prove that God has a hand scientifically if you follow my cantrabaqash. Interesting stuff all around.
  20. Yes and I made through the selection process, sat the whole proceeding for about eight weeks. Needless to say I lost a great deal of income (not to mention it was my first professional job -- intern). At the end they compensated my losses by giving me meager 12 cents/mile (at the time -- '99 - 00') for commuting to and from the court, $30/day, and paid lunch (only) bills. Educational yes but def not fun. Be honest in your answers in the vetting process and remember its your civic duty to serve in this type of services. Good luck budy.
  21. Rajo lyrics and intro music as well are off the hook. Bit long other than that it is pretty neat. Gulled should try acoustic guitar next time. Have you guys had the pleasure of listening the great composer Qarshe legacy songs (acoustic guitar). There is Somali album titled Somali Republic Freedom Songs in iTunes. Pretty tight I tell you. Costs only $0.99 a song and as you may already know you can sample them before you actually buy the song.
  22. ^Will wonders never cease!!! Obviously you are not getting it. Awoowe TFG as a faction is significantly different from all other competing factions. It has taken this cut-throat fight to a different level. Awoowe what they have done in Benadir is inexcusable. The Tigre tanks rolling down in the streets of the national seat of the Somalia that once existed shooting indiscriminately, killing other Somalis, pillaging properties, raping women; all this unchecked and unaccounted -- this is really indefensible and sure is first in Somalia. No one is justifying TFG's tactics or its approach in consolidating its hold on the city. This is NOT what this discussion is about if you really read between the lines of the exchange we just had. At issue is whether the competing factions in Somalia are different in degree but not in kind. I know they are all same in kind. As strange as it may seem to you there are no innocent suckling lambs or harmless doves in this fight. They (all clan factions) are all guilty of high treason and they have all collaborated with the enemy one point or another. The only exception I can recall is the JVA and UIC factions. My friend Mr. Oodweyne is glamorizing one form of high treason, calls those who perpetuated it heroes all the while he leaves no stone unturned when it comes indicting other factions for the same damn crime (same in kind, different in degree in the case of TFG). I know you yourself are fan of the great mujahids who have bravely fought for establishing sharia-based Islamic government in that neck of the wood. I mean these sorts of hypocrisies can not and will not stand unchallenged. The funny thing is every time we take a go at an issue for some strange reason unknown to me Oodweyne attacks me on an issue I have taken an opposite view or a cause I have never advocated for. One wonders where does this unsubstantiated tuhun stems. It would be interesting to know for it is beyond me to make outright lie and attribute to me positions that are not mine.
