  1. Libaax and Che, with your help we could win the highest seat of of the land of the Somali republic. To know where you going , you must know your history, culture and tradition. Most of the Somalis, especially those ( Kuwii Dumiyey Qaranka) who eliminated the Republic, will never say any thing good about the Nation we lost. The Somali state didn't begin or end in 1988.

I went through middle school , high school and Gahayr university without paying any one Somali Shilling. It wasn't Siyaad Barre who provided that opportunity , but the Somali state and the government led by the Kacaan. When I was in Mogadishu in the middle of eighties, I was a rebellious university student like anyone else. I hated the system and the government, yet I always felt a proud to be a Somali.

What ever hatred we had were directed at the regime not the nation. Living in Mogadishu, it never crossed my mind that this beautiful city belonged to or owned by anyone else. ( Habeen Waligay Kuma Seexan Xamar Cidbaa Kaa Xigta). It was the capital of my nation. Who could have imagined with less than few years millions of Somalis were expelled from their homes by misguided militia. In the late Somalia of eighties, I could have moved and settle in Kismaayo or Jowhar, without the fear of anyone denying me residence. That was the Somali state. Please tell us what you have replaced with that state after 25 years.

Whether one lives in small town, at the border, center or the capital the feeling was mutual. Believe me , I will never complain or worry about my home region getting less ministers or Generals, what counts is the equal opportunity for all, government services and the feeling of the greater goal of the nation compared to your rivals and competitors. The sad part is in order to to lift people from poverty and dislodge the public purse and resource from the privileged few , we are forced to wage a tribal or regional campaign which will never achieve the intended goal.

If I spent $ 10,000 dollars to achieve a national goal, I would never regret for a second, if that adventure is not reached. because I consider it being part of something greater than my self. But if i pay $200 dollars for tribal pride, deep down , I always regret. Many of you may feel the same.

In my last post, I stated how the people of Togdheer were evacuated and settled in Shabeellaha Hoose during the" Dabadheer Drought", It was a duty toward a Soomaali people who were in need. Can a desperate Somali families could settle today in Burco or Beledweyne. I doubt it.

Muxuu Yidhi Abwaankii " Waxay Na Badeen, Waxay Na Bareen Baa Ka Sii Daran". Rather than being a big fish in a pound (dhijaan), I rather be a small fish in the big ocean of the Somali republic. I always supported the creation of federal states and the distribution of power. Not to create enclaves , or being a big fish in pound, but the power to provide better services for the local people. The question is: Are they providing services?.

Libaax, with all this bright young minds in the SOL, we could do it. Some of them are cool headed like Che, others are intelligent, some are well versed in politics. I could hire Dr.Keney, Mooge, Dhagaxtuur and the Mischivious Xaaji Xanjuf, who must abandon the illussion of Hargeisa and recliam the Republic.

Libaax, Saaxiib Waa Halkii reer Benaadirkee " Hadalee Maan Wadaynaa". Ma waxaynu Daawanaynaa qori isu Dhiibkan reer Muqdisho iyo Reer Puntland". A guy from Mogadishu who becomes President because of the instability of Mogadishu, who then, nominates a fellow from Puntland , and so on.

I am the candidate of SOL residents. If I could get the support of these men and women , I could win.

Libaax, arrintaa maxaad ka odhan lahaydeen?

  2. ELPunto, you are exactly right. The so called opposition could condemn and speak out , but they don't . In this part of Somaliland having mercy for other Somalis is seen as weakness or abandoning the illusion.

The headline of the article says that the Somalilanders were admitted, while Somalis were refused. Some of you naive youngsters might think that the admitted Landers were carrying registered passports or other credible documents which proves their citizenship. Folks that is not the case.

You may be able to separate Mr.john smith of Britain , from Mr. Smith of Canada or other anglophone countries by their citizenship and passport, but here in the land of the nomad, were citizenship, document and registry is non existent, the only way to profile innocent Somali war refugees is by asking their clan. If you are not from Awdal, Hargeisa or Sanaag, may Allah have a mercy for you.

Does anyone has any other way to separate poor Somalis.

  3. God forbid, if this enclave becomes state, it will be a disaster. There is no rule of law , or government hierarchy. The man wielding the stick is the mayor of Berbera. He is fighting with the governor who want the people to embark from the ship. He ( the mayor) seems to be winning at the moment. The Governor " Dacar", is from AWdal. I heard he insisted that the people should be allowed.

As the story goes some of the people were from the north, so in order to separate the Somalis, they have to ask the usual " Qolomaa Tahay", What a shame.

Some forty years ago in 1974 when the " Dabadheer", drought hit the region between Togdheer and Sool, with a lot of loses, the Somali state, brought Russian C130 cargo planes and air lifted hundreds of the people, their hamlets and life stocks including the remaining goats and sheep's. The Somali government settled them in some of the fertile lands in Shabeelaha Hoose, districts of Sablaale and guntiwaarey. They became successful farmers and fisher men.

Now this. Believe me, we can all claim and always high light the crimes of the Kacaan, but it was the a Somali state which benefited people from every where. When we to go to hospital, we were admitted because , we were sick and happen to be Somali, just like the Canadians of today.

The next chapter of my book is going to be: The collapse of the Somali state was the biggest calamity to happen to the Somali people for the last hundred years. Please call me : Dhashii Kacaanka.

  4. Yonis, please no excuses for this " Maamul and the People". It has been almost a week and not one single person raised their voice. This is the same crowd that was playing the victim card for 25 years. This is worse than what South Africans were doing to Somalis and others.

For many years , no one challenged them. In politics, carrot and stick go hand in hand. We all overlooked their weaknesses, misdeeds and dysfunction. They are even spreading false excuses, claiming that the Ethiopian government told them not to accept refugees from Yemen.

If I were in charge , I would have brought these separatists in to the union without bloodshed . It won't take me four years. The problem is we have a weak and corrupt southern politicians who doesn't know history and can not see the big picture.

  5. Kulahaa "The Federal Gov will be given one or two district of Mogadishu as a Federal district capital", Horta dadkani ma iyagaa sharciyada samaysta miase sharci la yaqaano ayey u maraan.

Maalister Saaaxiib, you can't make the rules as you wish. I remember another " Unaka" member Mr. "Oba Hilawle", last year mentioned about giving certain districts of Mogadishu as the nations capital and joining the rest with " Shabeelaha Hoose".

Before we address these silly propositions from the " Unaka", is there any precedents or similar capitals in the world with similar arrangements like the one suggests by our friend Malister?. To be sure , We are not talking about centralized, unitary, monarchies or republics with a capital and regions like France, Italy or Egypt. Here, we are specifically addressing Federal states. Some of these Federal states have their own unique history of autonomous colonies forming the federation as in United States and Canada, while others are the result of people with different cultural and ethnic background coming together, like nigeria, india and Russia. In these states, the national capital is the seat of the federal government. Since tribal identity is even stronger than the ethnic one, Somali Federal states with agreed upon National Capital region is a must.

We don't have to go even further to find the right model copied by toady's Somalis. Ethiopia, our neighbor, which has great influence on the formation of these states, have implemented not only a federal capital region, but also formed federal administered cities within the regions. The size of Addis Ababa has doubled for the last 25 years. every year , the federal government annexes land from neighboring regions to accommodate the growing population of the Capital.

Dire Dawa, a city in the Somali region, used to be the second largest and railway hub between Djibouti and Addis. It was A Somali town with substantial mix of Yemenis, Oromo, Harrai and small number of Ahmara. After 1991, most of the Somalis either left for Djibouti , Somalia or outside the country. At the same time large number of Oroms and other ethnic groups settled. When Federal regions were forming , it was disputed between the growing Oromos and Somalis. To resolve the issue, the Ethiopian Government made the city under the Federal control.

Now, Mogadishu is the symbol of Somali rejuvenation and revival after the collapse of the state in 1991. At the same time, it is the commercial hub and the largest city with millions of people. To sustain the millions of Somalis from all over the country, Mogadishu must not only be maintained as a whole, but other neighboring communities like Balcad and Afgooye must be incorporated. Modern city planing and more land is needed for the capital to accommodate up to 2.5 million Somalis, including those from the diaspora, who could be going back if peace is achieved.

Now, to be fair, let us address the issue of representation, especially the residents of the city regardless of their tribe. Living in the capital does not deny one a complete representational of the national parliament. in fact, they will probably have the largest number of parliamentary seats.

This is a win win situation for all Somalis. I urge Ali Geddi and others to look these facts carefully. Of course, there will be an elected mayor who runs the city and maintains the basic services. Folks, the issue of cutting the city to pieces is a non starter for all of us. After what has happened in Mogadishu in early nineties and subsequent miseries Somalis suffered every where, it is only fair to be inclusive at this juncture of history. Ant thing else will be impunity.

If the debate continues, then an elected Somali parliamentarians should decide the location. there other places who are willing to invite everyone.

  6. The left and the poverty industry in Canada love to narrate these hopeless and miserable stories about Somalis and others to keep them from seeing the big picture or discovering other venues to escape the poverty or find new ways to overcome. Here, you see a so called award winning journalist retelling old news paper stories to describe Somalis in Canada.

With all due respect, the Somali women featured in the story, I do not see a social worker who helps people with welfare needs or guiding new comers, could help the first generation Somali youngsters who are totally a different categories. The goofy journalist claims a social science graduate who works for the social services is an exception to the rule for Somalis. This is what we are up against " a Cadaan " socialist who would like to be an expert. I think Sister Safia mentioned this kind of thinking with her ground breaking article about " Somali studies" and the Cadaan.

In this province alone, their are over 30 Somali graduates of universities and colleges of different fields every year. Many have joined the work force. If one looks back the Vietnamese refugees of late seventies and early eighties-- The Boat People-- they had violent and shocking stories in Canada. Today, other than few drug dealers or high level criminals, most of them are successful citizens. Even in Alberta, where most of Somalis have been killed, things are calming down slowly.

We have plenty of problems to overcome, but we must reject this victim hood, poor, and hopeless mentality they want to project from Somali communities. Regardless of how difficult it is to succeed in Canada, those who strive and work hard will achieve something good " Insha Allah". Also, it is disingenuous to blame Canadians for opening their door to Somali refugees. Millions who are in refugee camps and other hopeless places will be grateful to have an opportunity to land in Canada.

These kind of victim-hood never helps anyone. Look the aboriginal Canadians. The media keeps talking about their constant problems and the discrimination they face in Canadian society without addressing their own internal problems. Their own future is the projection of the injustices they suffered almost 200 hundred years ago, rather take advantage the vast land they own and other strength of their culture.

I remember , when for the first time Somalis were introduced to other citizens of the Ottawa city, back in 1992. If one researches , he/she may even find in the archives of the Ottawa Citizen News paper. The story starts about good looking but different people at the bus stops who are the newest arrivals of the nations capital. Most of the people interviewed were upper or middle class Somalis who left comfortable life to the harsh winters of Ottawa. While most of stories were about adventure and the new life, the complaint and high expectation of the new Somalis had bad reaction among the local readers who responded with harsh letters to the editor.

" I applied jobs every where and no one was offering me any thing, If I were blond and blue eyed white, I would have gotten the job". That was one of the responses of a young Somali professional who wanted very thing as quickly as possible. People were astonished about the attitude of the new refugees who were welcomed to community, yet poking fingers at the local people. That was how we were introduced by the media back then over twenty years ago.

  7. The idea of everyone voting in 2016 is not only impossible , it is a hopeless proposition. The basic task of Governing mostly involves registry and regulation ( Diwaan gelin iyo Maarayn). Registraging the birth, marriage and death of the public, record keeping of property and other painstaking remuneration of every thing.

We will never have fair elections or registered voters for a long time to come. Look in Hargeisa, after almost a generation( twenty four years), no one knows how to register or administer basic registry. The so called parliament was elected in 2005. A process that must be done for every five years, yet they have been sitting their for 10 years and no one knows when the next one is due. The Guurti should have been elected every five years and they are sitting illegally for 18 years.

They sit their and debate endlessly. Rather than start the process years ago, they wait until the last minute. They claim their budget is hundred of millions, yet they are waiting few millions from " Deeq Bixiye yaasha".

Now how on earth is any general election will be possible in the Al-shabaab infested south?. If you are running for office make sure you reach " Odayaasha Dhaqanka" who are sitting in Mogadishu to select the next group of parliamentarians. Probagaandadana naga yareeya fadlan.

  8. Tilamook, Waxaa ha nagu maqashiin. Unconstitutional extension of term limits is something unique in this continent. No way. If he want to extend his term, let him compete in 2016, like everyone else.

Ina Cabdirashiid is a nice guy. Somalia needs a tough guy. This is the man who shuffled 100 cabinet members in two months. He is a Mogadishu boy. He does't have the backbone to face warlords and business oligarchs who run the country with impunity.

  9. Gooni, nin qalbi fiican baa tahay. Fiicnaan lahaydaa haday hawluhu sidaad sheegtay u dhici lahaayeen.

In my humble opinion Qoslaaye is in Garoowe plotting his next move regarding after 2016. His term will conclude within a year and few months. He didn't defeat Al-shabaab yet, didn't build viable national army and time is running out. Garoowe and Cabdi weli are the best place to start the campaign.

The questions is what can he offer ?, or what are the possible scenarios in this game.

First , he will ask C/weli to supports his campaign to extend his term for two more years, in exchange to help C/weli succeed him to the office, in 2018.

The second scenario could be even more daring for Qoslaaye. The second scenario is Qoslaaye may even plan for his reelection in 2016, and offer C/weli the premiership and guarantee it in writing. " Addeer Afarta sano ee soo socota aynu wada shaqayno, Awood buuxda ayaan kuu siinayaa Ka raiisul Wassaare Ahaan. Ogow C/weli, Haddaad ila tartanto 2016, way adag thay in aad iga badiso. Addeer Labadan Arrimood mid Dooro.

    C/weli, Waan ka soo fikirayaa.

Remember those boys holding the premiership and deputies, the likes of " Ina C/rashiid and INa Caete Qaalib, are Daddies boys. They have done nothing in life to hold these positions. Sooner or latter, they must vacate these positions for the self made men who are waiting in the wings.

  10. Somalee, you probably are not married. Help have been asked already. In our Islamic tradition, when it comes to manipulation and plotting, even the devil himself will not match woman's mischief. Even research have shown that their instant thinking and quick response is better than men. . They already know the answers of their questions. Buddy marriage is beautiful and complicated.

Of course , we Somali men have a lot to improve, like waking in the park with the wife and other companionship issues. I hate shopping. Staring those supermarket shelves while she takes her time. Yes, we are a lot to improve, but no one can match our other strength.

No white convert, Arab, Pakistani or black African can even get closer. None of them will send money to her mother and other extended family. I am not talking about one month or even a year. How about ten years. We don't mind doing it.We consider it part of our family duties. We approach the whole thing like a life long companionship till death do us part. But Chores, it is our weakness, no debate.

  11. Of course, a family without selfless mother and wife will not succeed. The unconditional love they provide their children will never be matched by any father. on house hold chores , the best a good Somali husband could do is limited. Vacuum the house, some shopping and babysitting the children while you go out and relax with your Halimo sisters. laundry?, forget it.

The idea of men cooking for their wives is only in Hollywood movies. It is a fairy tale. I hate those fake men who boast about cooking. only wives could make the house neat and livable.

For twenty years I have been told " Waar shaadhka iyo Dharkan aad dhulka ku tuurayso meel fiican sudh". Sometimes I was even told " waar inta aadan wax cunin orod oo maydho",( take a shower before you eat food), I could go on.

On series note, the work outside home while raisin infants is what making things difficult. The biggest strain on marriages and couples is the early years. Most divorces that I have seen happens for the first five years, especially with children.

WE don't like to be awaken in the middle of the night by a crying baby, while trying to sleep few ours before early call. Usually it is the mother who absorb all that night duty. That is why she is not only super, but the most loved and respected in the whole family. On the other hand, seeing a careless husband might make some women fear for their future and push hard to affect change, which sometimes backfires.

Sister Saafinuura, The world have changed. For years, The feminists have told women that they can have both worlds. family life and good career. Well sisters, that is a lie. It is a difficult to balance, especially in the early years of child raising.

Without the wife , the whole house will be a place of dozen shoes and dirty cloths that lither the floor.. She is the center of all our lives.

teach him few things and give him duties he can handle. Leave the baby to him as much as possible to babysit and go to other sisters to relax and change the atmosphere. In our tradition, sisters enjoy chatting with other sisters to relax the mind. Finally have patience in the early years, things will work out themselves.

  12. While discussing the issues of world power, the Somali Philosopher Dr. Cumar Raabe( Allah ha u Naxariistee), said " Maraykanku Waa Badow Doolar iyo Bunduq Haysta". Roughly means " The typical American is an ignorant with dollar and shotgun", or as they say in the wild west , it is the butter and the gun that built America. At the same time many of you might have seen movies made about the " ugly American", disrespecting indigenous cultures and customs when he travels abroad. yet regardless of how people dislike the ugly American or hold certain contempt for his behavior , people very where respect them and fear them because of who they are and what they stand for.

Now imagine the " ugly Somali" who has neither the butter or the gun, yet behaving badly throughout the world. He will not be tolerated or given a pass like the American, instead he will exposed and dealt harshly.

We don't have Radio, television or other modern programming to inform our people or even guide them how to navigate these new countries they are settling. Every other community whether they Indians, chines or Arabs, follow the foot steps of those who proceeded them in terms adapting to the new environment. Most of the Somali community leaders are dinosaurs or older people who can;t answer the modern needs of the new generation.

Our own West Edmonton Mall was put on high alert after Al-shabaab released a video to threatening for attack. Every thing is related to the political situation of the country. unless the country stabilizes, Somalis youth will be the victims of multiple foreign ideologies.

  13. I never accuse legitimate Hawalas who are the life line of the people back home including my own family. This is not about Hawala service, it is about unanimous telephone banking that is facilitating the killing of innocent Somalis.

We are all for free enterprise and open economic market, but you can't secure your people and country by overlooking this issues. You can not allow your citizens to be bombed like insects by a dozen every other month. The question is how Al-shbaab is paying salaries and financing sleeper cells and local unemployed people. Believe me in Mogadishu every thing is about money.

  14. Wax kasta oo dhaqaale iyo dhismo Aduunyadu bixisay Xamar baa la galiyey. Dadka Sommaaliyeed ee Zaylac iyo Baidhabo iyo Bulaxaar jooga waxba kama soo gaadhayaan. Dadka Soomaaliyeed Ayadoo ay didaas tahay ayey raali ka noqdeen. Iyagoo Rumaysan Hadii Caasimadu nabad noqoto in Qaran Soomaaliyeed hagaagayo.

Isbitaalo, wadooyin, iskuulo, Airpor iyo adeegii halkaas ayaa lawada geeyey. Dadka maanta ku hadaaqaya Muqdisho Hiiraan halagu daro, kumanaan Soomaali ah ayey Muqdisho Siyaabo kla duwan uga qixiyeen. Waxay dhaheen Hadaan Madaxweyne anaga la naga dhigin nabad la heli maayo. Maantana waxay leeyihiin Muqdisho waa dhul reer hebel ee Caasimad Soomaaliyeed oo loo wada siman yahay ma ahan.

If Mogadishu is going to be the nations capital, it must be a neutral seat of all Somalis. I can't imagine the greed of certain politicians. President Hassan and his clansmen control the Intelligence service, the national police, and Benadir regional government, yet they can't improve security. No way. Somalis should never allow one clan to control the resource of the national capital. Remember, it is the Somalis and former national governments, including " Kacaanka", who built Xamar before and today , it is mostly Turkey and the resource donated to the national government by the donors who are mostly responsible for the new Mogadishu.

They want to take all that to themselves. What a punch of greedy people. If they do not change their character " WAdankan Waa laka Diri".

    Enough is enough.

  15. Hlac, it could be similar to Bitcoin in terms of purchasing and currency exchanges. They also put certain value on the coin which is equivalent of some dollars. While Bitcoin is replacing the dollar as agreed upon currency, Zaad Service is simple transfer of cash through the phone.

This big difference is Zaad service is unanimous telephone banking. Small merchants can set up accounts and load the money in your phone. After transaction is concluded no one is able to trace or control.

Telesom company controls the service. They are owned by former Al-Barakat and Salama Bank owners. IN the Somali business and political landscape, they are the biggest fish.

  16. First , it is encouraging to see these young bright Somali minds trying to affect changes in academia and Somali studies in particular. While most of us middle aged men are immersed and preoccupied with our regions (tribal home lands), it is refreshing to see a new generation of educated Somalis aiming the big picture of being Somali and our indigenous culture.

Seeing the introduction of Safia, it shows how well educated and trained people can express issues with class and finesse. The issue of people like I. M. Lewis dominating Somali studies in the 21st century is a great dilemma for Somali anthropologists and others who involve in that subject. Personally, I do not have much to contribute on the subject other than admire the thought.

On the other hand, it might be naïve or too early for young Somalis to replace the old order without establishing themselves in these institutions. Small, slow incremental changes are needed . Also, in terms of back home, while the resilience of the culture is visible, without a functioning state that promotes culture and good traditions , the worst part of the culture and bad habits are easily detected by foreign sociologists or anyone who visits the country.

One of the young guys with big afro was talking about the value of the black lives. Perception is reality. Black people and their states must show progress, economic power and the value of their citizens. In old South Africa, during apartheid, the Chinese were labelled with Indians Blacks and mixed race, while the Japanese had same rights as the white Europeans. I bet the poor Chinese of 40 years ago are today's super power. victors always write history.

Any way I admire your journey.

  17. Mooge waan ku Salaamay. Even the most stable economies and countries, no one is allowed to carry a cash exceeding $10,000 dollars. How can you transfer someone through mobile phone one thousand or more dollars without trace.

That is why it become difficult to catch " horjoogayaasha Al-shabaab". He is typically conducting business without contact.

  18.

In nineteen nineties, when the Mogadishu war between Aideed and Cali Mahdi was cooling down, suddenly a huge shell exploded in the Bakara Market of Mogadishu. The casualty was bad. The main question everyone asking was: who was behind this crime?. A man no one heard before , by the name of Muuse Suudi Yalaxow came out and said " Aarey Aniga Waaye Igaarka Madfaca Soo Tuuray". It was one of the most dramatic ways to introduce himself in the Warlord invested streets of Mogadishu. The rest is history.

In order to distinguish itself from other extremist groups , a northern Nigeria based terror group called Boco Haram, attacked a boarding school in Nigeria and massacred 70 student while they were sleep. When everyone including the government inquired about the atrocities and the groups behind it , they said " it is us Boko Haram, our name means education is forbidden and will kill those who enroll these government run schools in Nigeria".

Since then, they murdered and kidnapped girls as young as 10 years old. One of the most publicised cases were the kidnapping of 300 school girls whom are still missing. As we speak , they have crossed to Cameroon, Chad and Niger. In order to slow down and confront this growing threat , the African Union has agreed to send 17,000 African troops to help combat Boko Haram.

Looking carefully these new developments and the growing capacity of Boko Haram, certain questions remain unanswered. How can a small band of back ward extremists in northern Nigeria suddenly rose to prominent within few years of their formation?. How come a group who numbered few hundreds, just two years ago are crossing international borders of three nations?. Why Nigeria , one of the richest countries in Africa with huge military capabilities, even need the help of Uganda or others?. Where did the Boko Hram get it's weapons?, since they are paying salary to their members just like Al-shabaab , who is financing them?, these and many other questions need to be answered.

One could say that conflict weapons from Libya might have contributed to the coffers of Boko Haram arson, or the underdeveloped parts of northern Nigeria regions may have attracted disgruntled communities and unemployed youth, but the biggest question is how can they maintain the lavish life style their leaders enjoy, including expensive late model vehicles worth tens of thousand?. While there are always ideological or religious motivations among some of members , recent history of these groups have shown that money is the biggest motivation to participate these conflicts.. Both local and foreign money is the root cause for the rise of Al-shabaab and many others.

Recently, the gulf monarchies are distancing themselves from ISIS and other extremist groups in the region, but clear evidence shows most of them, especially Saudi billionaires, are the financiers of most of the Wahabi inspired confrontation in the Muslim world. As we speak, Al-shbaab is raising money in the Bakara market openly without reprisals. There are clandestine cooperation between certain business people and Al-shabaab. A person caring a bag or some sort shows up at the Bakara market and traders are told to contribute for the cause of Islam , which they do quietly. While everyone is horrified about the crimes of Al-shabaab, including this month's Garisa University Massacher, many business people inside Somalia do not condemn or willing to confront the extremists.

While major hotels and government buildings are bombed, not one single telecom , business or buildings owned by these contributors of Al-shabaab are damaged. Non of the major holders of Banking, telecom and other businesses ever condemned or offered to participate the fight against al-shabaab. Have you ever heard the owners of Al-barakaat, Hormuud, Sometel; Dahabshiil and Salaama bank owners ever condemn Al-shabaab?, never. They are making millions from the misery of the people.

Then there is the so called Zaad Service. These electronic transfer of money through your mobile phone is the greatest invention that made these extremist groups operate without detection and regulation. In the older days, in order to recruit spy or saboteurs, you supposed to meet them physically. Now, all you need is buy them a cell phone and transfer the monthly salary and other instructions through the mobile phone. Many of them are just mules carrying equipment and weapons from point A to point B, without knowing the mission. Yet, this incompetent government does not even add these developments to the equation.

In my opinion Al-shabbab is smaller scale in the food chain of criminals rooming in Mogadishu. Of course they are the most dangerous terrorists with their scale of bombings and killings , but they can only exist as parasites who must live among certain environment. So, in order to eliminate them, you must drain the wells they reside and their financers. Here is the list of oligarchs and ideological backers of Al-shabba , who must be eliminated in order for the movement to disappear.

1- Wahaabi ideology and doctrine: the Wahabi movement is headquartered in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf monarchies. Their biggest asset, more than any thing is plenty of money. The barrel of oil was almost $100 dollars for the last eight years which made them the richest regions of the world. With a local population of less than 40 million , the gulf monarchies are awash with cash. They may be filthy rich in terms of money, but they couldn't offer much for the wider world or the Muslim world in general. They don't build bridges or highways like Chines to increase infrastructure, they do not have technological advances to offer, nor they could help a Muslim in dire need. So, the only thing they could spread among war invested Muslim regions is their despotic life style, among them Wahabi doctrine of the Gulf.

In the Islamic tradition, monarchies are unIslamic institutions . In Islam, meritocracy, experience and good character are the virtues leaders should be selected to lead their communities, unlike feudal monarchies where corrupt individuals are crowned by the ruling family. While their governments are passive in most issues, their rich billionaires are very active.

As soon as Al-shabaab took over KIsmaayo, some of their first acts were filming the beatings of a young girl accused of Adultery, and digging and destroying of cemeteries. These videos are sent to these rich gulf sheekhs who declare " Hadda ayaa Soomaalia laga helay koox Illahay Keli Yeelaysa", roughly means " for the first time Somalia got a group who believe the Oneness Od Allah". For them Al-shabaab and company are the bearers of true faith. What these ignorant monarchists do not know is that Islam reached the shores of Somalia before it reached Medina, Iraq or Pakistan. In the coastal city of Zailac, in Awdal region, there is a mosque called " Masjidul Qiblatayn", reminding when the Qible for prayer was Jerusalam. Just like Al-shabaab, one of the first acts of ISIS was to destroy older cemeteries and mosques which is the most fundamental doctrine of Wahabism. It is their first act. Not peace, education , governance or rule of law but destruction. This rigid doctrine not only saws hatred and divisions among Muslims , but it also exasperates the existing problems of a community who were already overwhelmed with other man made issues.

By now, every Muslim around the world is shocked about the crimes these extremist movements, but we all have failed to grasp the ideological origins of these movements. Of course their are tribal, nationalistic and other local issues feeding some these conflicts, but their cruelty doesn't rise from a vacuum, it must originate some where. In fact it is easy to profile these sects. Beheading, destruction of cemeteries-- even two feet high tombs--, restrictions of women and people in general, and eventually harsh treatment for those who happen in their way. These are their hallmark. Did I mention the black flag?. Among the most fundamental tenants of our Iman is the believe in the here after where " every soul shall rise from the dead and answer their Lord for hi/her bad and good deeds in their life. For these groups, desperation, destruction and the dispensing of harsh punishment as much as possible in this world , is the key. For them , Allah's judgement day cannot wait for here after.

In order to control the destruction of these foreign sect, Somali governments must restrict their money supply and promote the religion of mercy which we all grown up. Also, for starters, every conflict that pitches Arab dictators and their people, middle eastern sects and tribal groups, should not be called Jihad for Islam. It is just different groups vying for power and supremacy. One example of this is the Yemen war, where a minority Shia sect want to take power by the barrel of gun. They probably have seen small Allawi sect in Syria impose their will in the land or the Iran financed Hezbollah assert power in Lebanon. We have no business interfering with these intra-Arab conflicts or their ideological sects.

2- Business oligarchs: Most of these oligarchs made their money during the civil. While most of them do badly needed services in a country without a functioning government for twenty years, some how accidentally , they became themselves the state within the Somali state. In some aspects , they are even bigger than the government it self.

stay tuned for the second part........

  19.

These people in Hargeisa forgot that the main reasons Somalis including the SNM went to war was tribal reasons. Each tribe wanted to be free from centralized state control. It wasn't about communism, democracy or god governance. It was tribal, pure and simple. As I stated in this page , some even went to war for tribal pride and hegemony. The southern Somalis, regardless of their problems understood that devolution of power and tribal federalism is the only way to stop centralized power and the theft of recourses by the ruling tribe of the day.

When I was in university in the middle of eighties, I felt home in Mogadishu. It was the nations capital were millions of Somalis from five regions of the country congregated for opportunity and life. The ugly head of tribal hegemony was visible , yet it never crossed in my mind that Mogadishu belonged to any tribe or group. " Cid Baa Xamar kaa Xigta ama Dad Gaar Ah baa Leh Weligay isma Odhan". The dictatorship problems were never associated with existence of the people or the tribal ownership of certain places. Yes, the system was breaking down , yet the people were struggling as Somalis in their own land collectively for the worldly life. Five years latter in 1991, millions of Somalis were expelled and made refugees. They were caught unprepared, they thought the land , the people and the government were different things. The leadership was evil, but, they thought , the land was theirs. Most were unable to return their homes as we speak.

No one in their right mind will rush to build house in Mogadishu unless the character and the mind set of the people and Somalis in general change. In Hargeisa let alone outsiders, even the SNM Habroos, live distinctively different neighborhoods. It is the reality of today's Somalia. In the light of past history, you can't leave yourself at the mercy of any tribal groups masquerading as a government. Peace isn't the absence of war, but a genuine peace of mind based on justice and rule of law. We are all aware Somalis every where refuse to abide by the rules. There are no guaranties that tribal homelands will lead to prosperity and progress, but , at least , you live with ease and live another day.

No one in their right mind, will deny that despite the tribal hegemony and dictatorship, the biggest calamity that hastened the demise of the Somali State was, the concentration of power, wealth and resources in the hands of very few tribally connected people and their friends. Somalis, some how had always the fear of poverty and the desire to gain an earned material and wealth ( Bililiqo). Don't go far to find these causes. If you carefully investigate the current President Hassan, you will confuse the difference between Benadir regional government and the federal government. Nepotism is rampant. The consolation is people in JUbba, Puntland, Bay and other regions are working hard to manage their affaires without the power hungry centralized Somali state of yester years.

Mogadishu may be the capital of Somalia, but it shouldn't be more than the seat of where Somalis interact with international institutions and the outside world. The days of the small group of thieves accumulating power and privilege in one place are over.

Fast forward to the main topic of the sick man of the horn.

In 1987, Then President Siyaad Barre had a series head on collision. The accident was so series, he was airlifted to Saudi Arabia for more advanced medical facilities. He stayed their more than four months. In a communist dictatorship, there are no written rules that govern if the head of the state misses his duties months or even years. The acting President supposed to be General Mohamed Ali Samater who was the prime minister. For the first time the close family members of Siyaad Barre have noticed the dilemma and life without the President. Rather than follow the rules and delegate the management of the state to General Samater, they decided to make the issue a family affair. HIs wife Khadiijo, Son Maslah and other immediate family circles and their in-laws became in charge of the Somali State.

Siyaad Barre came back and started his usual business, but most people who follow Somali politics will tell you that he was never the same person after that accident. The introduction of close family members to the decision making of the state , hastened the demise of the government system. Open tribalism, looting and abuse of power followed. Few years latter the Somali state collapsed.

History repeats it self. 24 years after the collapse of the Somali State another sick man, running an enclave appears in the scene with identical, albeit smaller and insignificant power in one of Somali regions. Siilaanyo who is almost eighty years old had a mild stroke in Sanaag region around July 2010. Since there wasn't any meaningful hospital that can preform any heart related issues, he was airlifted to Nairobi, Kenya.

It wasn't series, but due to his old age and the late arrival in Nairobi, it has left him with Dementia. Dementia after stroke is a common. Approximately 29% of patients with cerebrovascular disease meet operationalized criteria for Dementia 3. Even greater number have cognitive impairment. Those diagnosed with these disease have the symptoms of Alzheimer's. That means they will have inability to remember things or even read. Siilaanyo could walk or preform some normal physical activities, but he can't remember things or analyze critical issues. He would visit 20 places and will tell them the same thing he told the first one. He can't conduct question and answer interview.

    THE KING HAS NO CLOTHES.

If you want to know the difference, check Siilaanyo's speeches before and after stroke. You may ask , how many people do know his situation?. well, almost all the main political leaders and business members of the Hargeisa know this. Even vice President Zaylici in one of his skirmishes with Siilaanyo said " Waar Odaygu Dalka Ma maaulee, Xirsi Ayaa Taliya". Even the whole " Beesha", know his conditions, but all agreed to keep under the rags for the moment in order to keep the embarrassing situation private.

Just like 28 years ago in Somalia, you have incapacitated leader who had involuntarily delegated the business of government to his immediate family. We have Hooyo Khadiijo, who is more vindictive and power hunger in the Name of Amina, we have Hirsi Gaab acting as the presidents son, and finally we have son in -law by the name of Morgan - I am not making this - arresting members of the media who write unpleasant things about Siilaanyo.

A man from Hargeisa community called me the other day and he said " Waar Odaygani Wuu tagayaa, Waxanina way isla Dumayaane, Nimankiinan Reer Awdal maad iska Sugtaan, yaanu Magac Idin Raacine". roughly he says " that this old man and his corrupt minions are going down and the system is going to collapse, so Awdalites, just wait for a moment ". I told him that, he exactly described the situation perfectly, but unlike 1991, this time we won't be waiting the collapse without preparing ( Maanta Nagu kor dumi maysee Waan Ka Diyaargaroobaynaa).

Who would have thought after 25 years, a group of Somalis with fanfare and tribal noise couldn't build any meaningful institution based on rule of law, or build 10 km of road after all this years. The Somali state from 1960 to 1980, achieved so many milestones for just 20 years. Free health care and education, security, cultural pride and literacy for all from Kismaayo to Zaylac. . In 2011, as I was traveling from Djibouti to Hargeisa, in one of those old Russian built airplanes. I saw the pilot who happened to be a white Russian, with sandals, holding some kind of a jag putting fuel or some lubricant at one of engines. As soon as you enter, you could feel the smell of urine and notice the water bottles and other garbage on the floor. I said to my self " after 23 years of war and destruction, mayhem, millions of refugees and calamities, is this the legacy that replaced?." Waar Ma Taas Ayaa lagu bedeshay QArankii la dumiyey". If you destroy something , why not replace it with some thing better.

Ma Daraato Raad Kaan Dhigaan Dib Ugu Soo Laabaty...

They refused the rule of law..............next. satay tuned.

  20. It is not true. A useless vice minister who failed a month ago to convince the people about Suldaan Wabar, brought few ( Dheemaal) money for theses elders to denounce Suldaan Wabar. . usually you buy these kind of statements. The largest members of the "Jabhada Awdal are from Qulijeed area.

    Denouncing won't deter Suldaan Wabar.
