1. Oday, you must take into consideration the demographics of Eastleigh. Many of the Somalis in Eastleigh are from Mogadishu and South, an environment where investment is not the most wise. The Woqooyi Somalis r practically Kenyan and have little ties to Hargeisa, berbera and the other cities you mentioned. they were born in Kenya, there parents were born Kenya...
2. Military deployment in this Nairobi suburb. Cant enter or leave without being stopped. Stores r closed. Houses are being searched. Ppl r staying indoors. Meanwhile, Somali President Hassan Sheikh is hugging Uhuru in Nairobi.
3. This is good. It looks like 2014 is a big year for the SL aviation industry.
4. @DoctorKenney said: Maybe the Somali President should maneuver by persuading the Europeans and the Americans to fund the Somali Army directly with high salaries being paid to Somali troops instead of AU troops. If Somalis were paid 1200 dollars per month then it might attract higher quality recruits to join the Military. What do you guys think Americans and Europeans will much rather fund AMISOM than the Somali army. Hence why very little money actually goes to the central government but instead to regional administrations and NGOs.
5. ^^ Thats indeed the talk of the town. Even BBC Somali interviewed a guy who was at the scene of the crime and he said the attackers were non-Somalis.
6. Mayhem in Eastleigh AKA "Little Mogadishu", a Nairobi suburb in Kenya with a Somali population in the hundreds of thousands, a large sum of which are Somali refugees. Eastleigh, besides its prestige as an economic center, is notorious for police harassment and extortion. On a nightly basis, the Nairobi police roam the streets of Eastleigh in search of Somalis, also known as walking $$$. Regardless of whether you have the proper paperwork it is pay up or choose your new title, a "gang member", "terrorist", "illegal immigrant", your pick. To the economic security fanatics, Eastleigh is a place of pirate money and illegal businesses. To the national security fanatics, Eastleigh is a breeding ground for terrorist. To the exiled Somali, Eastleigh is refuge from the never ending war in Somalia. ---- Monday night, a bomb occurred in this Nairobi suburb killing 6 and injuring much more. What has followed is a McCarthy style raid where 1000+, mostly Somalis, have been arrested since Monday night. Mothers and students all are fair game. Expect to be roughed up and expect to pay up if you want to get out. Houses are being broken into, pedestrians are being rounded up like cattle, women are sexually harassed. Today, bombs were found near a residential area in Eastleigh, which were detonated by the police. Also, two grenades were found in a couple's home in Eastleigh. Interior Minister Ole Lenku, last week issued a directive ordering all urban refugees to return to the camps immediately, as the issue of refugees and insecurity in Kenya have been made to be one. An identical directive was made in 2012 which was declared unconstitutional by Kenya. Massive relocation hardly materializes, but what often does is an increase in police raids and harassment which serves to enrich the police and drive away the Somali refugees. A win win for all, except for the residents of Eastleigh read @Moyusef feed for a live deception of his encounter tonight with nairobi police
7. Though, Hawdian if this is indeed the case, is this not telling of the status of healthcare in Somaliland? Is it revealing of a grave demand not being filled? Though, that would be surprising as I have been to nice healthcare facilities in Hargeisa.
8. indeed security in Kismayo has deteriorated over the past months. It doesn't seem like it is getting better. I'd suspect it may further decline with the expiration of the interim administration. Malistar why doesn't your propaganda campaign cover this city?
9. what the hell this is the doctor with the permanent hiiraan.com ad?
10. You guys are real jokers. You expect one to take such thoughts seriously? Save it for the stand up show Cidansultan and Xaaji. When is the tour? We all know how much SL values independence. Slaves to such pursuit. To some it is holier than entering the gates of heaven. You think you guys will risk this pursuit by even looking at garowe. How will the Queen feel? You don't want to disappoint Her Majesty do you? You joke about AMISOM's presence in Mogadishu. You enter a foot in garowe or Boosaas, you can forget about independence and on top of that I am sure you'll find AMISOM in Hargeisa and not for military assistance. It would be a shame really because that would mean I won't be chilling in Hargeisa anymore. Wouldn't want to vacation in a war zone you know?
11. Who has a Qaraami mp3 collection that can dropbox it to me
12. Haa lakin xaaji this job posting refers to "the" decentralization process, a reference to Somali federalism it seems. Rather than general decentralization under SL
13. having some issues with the bolding. it kind of just bolded itself. you can ignore that
14. I may very well be misreading this job post. Though, I thought I'd share it anyway. There is a UNDP job opening titled "DECENTRALIZATION CAMPAIGN CONSULTANT" based in Hargeisa. The objective of the job is to develop a "public awareness campaign in Somaliland and Puntland on the decentralization process." Snippet of the UNDP Project Summary: Building public awareness will be vital to helping to ensure that civil society and local administrations understand their roles and responsibilities for the parts they play in the decentralization process. This awareness will help infuse the decentralization process with social and political capital that is necessary for this process to be fully achieved. Clear messaging through various forms will need to be communicated to the general public, which informs them of their administration’s vision for decentralization, while outlining its intentions and decentralization roadmap. - Though under the project summary it also says "Through mostly verbal mediums of communication, all messaging in the campaign should align with the vision statement for decentralization in Somaliland, respectively." the rest of the info of the job can be found here http://somalijobs.net/index.php/component/jajobboard/jajobs/jaview/922-decentralization-campaign-consultant ----------------- There is something fishy to me about this job post. Is this the beginning of desensitization of federalism to SL citizens? The job post uses the term "'the' decentralization" process obviously alluding to federalism. Is this implying SL is soon to be a federal state?
15. Alpha, Is this trip like the Ceel Afweyn trip? In the meanwhile, SP is in the middle of a very difficult shukaansi. I am afraid the American Dream is just not working on this one. Tallaabo, where is my consolidation prize as I feel I may be needing it soon?
16. I thought Xabad was banned? Has he been resurrected?
17. There is flying and there is FLYING on Daalo or Jubba.
18. Dear Saffy, These sentiments are surely natural. For the common man these feelings often lead to detachment. Though for the wise, as I expect the case for you, detachment is the catalyst to such feelings. Often worry and thought disconnects one from the world. Might I suggest you re-immerse yourself into the world and your daily affairs. Step down from the hill you watch the world from. Stroll through the tombs of life. Verily, swimming is inane for a bird, but not for a fish.
