Whether Islam grows quicker than other religions is statistical observations, not tool used to convince others Islam is a truer path than other religions in my opinion. Now if you are refuting such stats, I think Wikipedia won't cut it. Refuting which statistics? You merely asserted a claim which you didn't support and I pointed out that your claim isn't unique.

Turns out it wasn't all worth it as he is now suffering from renal deficiency after his kidney removal at the age of 17 how sad. I have looked it up right now this is the right link. The link of the topic maker doesn't work. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/apr/06/chinese-teenager-sold-kidney-iphone Painful story. I feel bad about my earlier comment now.
  4. Che -Guevara and Jacpher: While your distrust of Wikipedia is understandable, the point was that claims to be the fastest-growing religion are all too common and unless there is a comprehensive study showing that Islam is the fastest-growing religion, any claim saying as such will hold no more nor less water than that of any other religion making the same claim.
  5. Raamsade;817354 wrote: Science, being better at explaining mysteries and offering more plausible explanations for our place in the universe, has all but rendered organized religions obsolete. Reminds me of Oscar Wilde's epigram: “Religions die when they are proved true. Science is the record of dead religions”. Jacpher;817359 wrote: It's the contrary of what he's claiming; Islam is said to be growing faster than other religions. Is it, though?

What debate? People are still waiting for one of you to present the 'said' challenge in the title. It appears no-one is up to the task. If you think you can do that, then by all means go on; otherwise, please don't accuse anyone of not handling the debate 'straight'.

  11. Maaddeey;816896 wrote: ^^ May be, you don't know what 'plagiarism' mean!. LOL @ the above. This is precisely what I meant when I talked of refuting a ‘copy-paste’ material being a waste of time, especially when the culprit is someone who apparently can’t construct a coherent sentence.

A classic lack of understanding the basics is apparent in this thread. Maadeey's last post is quite interesting in terms of the title of the thread. Its been quiet since Ignoring the first two childish sentences, I'm baffled by what you mean about Maadeey's last post. The guy plagiarised an entire article off from some website and posted in this thread. In my experience it's a waste of time to refute a material that was copied and pasted. If Maadeey (or you, in fact) had the ability to come up with a somewhat an original argument or tactically present an exiting one, I'm pretty sure that would have caught the eye of many people (not all people who might have problem with the theme of this thread could be called atheists). Copy-pasting is boring - if it continues most people will lose interest in the thread like they did.

  14. Raamsade;814869 wrote: True knowledge is, to me at least, any body of facts/truths that are open to falsification or are ponderable augmented by strong empirical evidence. For example, the "knowledge" of photosynethesis is true one because: (1) there is strong empirical evidence for it and (2) it is falsifiable. In contrast, astrology is not a true knowledge as it lack both hard evidence and is completely unfalsifiable. Regarding competing truths, I disagree strongly. We have a fairly reliable standard to tell truth from falsehood and that is evidence. Like the protaganist from Dostoevsky's Notes from the Underground who riled against the oppressive "fact" that 2+2=4, you too are free to disagree with that truth or have your own alternative truth. That doesn't change the fact that 2+2=4 or a falling object will continue to fall if unmet by opposing object. The truth, as the X-Files use to tell us, is literally out there. By "out there" I mean it is outside of us humans and our opinions, feelings, views, etc. The existence of Dinosaurs is incontrovertible fact. It was a fact before humans existed. It was a fact before humans discovered about the existence of dinosaurs. It was a fact after humans found out about the existence dinosaurs. You see, the truth of dinosaurs, like all truths, is independent of what we think or even if we exist at all. So there can not possibly be competing truths. Competing truths are mere opinions. But that doesn't mean opinions are without merit. We have a second tool at our disposal called reason that we can employ to assess the validity of competing claims. Very well said!
  15. Isn't it ironic that this thread appears to have served the exact opposite of its purpose?
  16. Nonsense. Chelsea tamed Barcelona time and again. They tamed them with Ronaldinho on the field. If you can't vision Chelsea stopping Messi, then you know very little about football. As to what Mourinho means about referees favouring Barcelona, see this:
  17. The remaining episodes were as good as I was hoping for (and sad). Great series. Somalia;811076 wrote: Woah, wasn't expecting that. He isn't going far in Britain if he's homophobic. Also, so he does really have a gold tooth? I was pretty sure that it was fake!

  20. Blessed, yes that was mentioned many times. The remaining episodes will hopefully be as good. Somalia;810975 wrote: What's the drama called, I searched your title and I can't find anything. Presumably because you searched 'Somalis in One Night' rather than just 'One Night'. If that's the case, then sorry about the confusion. Here is a direct link to it on BBC iplayer.
  21. What did you think of the portrayal of Somalis in this new drama (if you have seen it)? I couldn't stop laughing when the Somali guy puts on this song... ... and gets pissed when the girl doesn't say that she likes it. Two episodes aired so far and the rest will be aired in this week and the next I think. You can catch-up on iplayer if it's your sort of thing. Probably there won't be much focus on Somali characters in the series, even though there were many in the background, but it's really good in its own way. (I watched 1st episode purely out of curiosity & Somalis came to the picture by surprise in the 2nd).
