  1. lol yeah watch out Blondy your cover might get blown. Media commentators don't have much else to go on with regard to Somali news and opinion and SOL is a source for news and opinion. Much of it in English. Not sure just how much of it they take seriously though re SOL's political commentary.
  2. The four teenagers held hostage by a splinter group of SSC militia for more than two weeks have now been freed; this has been confirmed by elders in Buhoodle. The hostage takers released the four teenagers today at midday and were then transferred to the custody of elders from Buhoodle who also happen to belong to the same clan. It not clear whether the demands set by the hostage takers were met or the conditions of the release, but negotiations between the two warring sides (burco and buhoodle) are still ongoing in a bid to solve long standing issues between the two sides , so as to promote peaceful co existence. The released hostages are still in the hands of elders from Buhoodle waiting to be transferred to elders from Burco. The four teenagers all school children were kidnapped nearly two weeks ago in sool-jogto while tending to their parents livestock. Somaliland Press A concerning development.

  6. I did better than anticipated and played plenty of footy whilst fasting. I like the non subscription gyms springing up. There is a market for a womens only non-subs gyms in London. There you go. Free business advice. Pay me when you're a millionaire Juxa.
  7. The alliances being formed are intruiging. Although there are probably better qualified individuals in the race I think the need for 'continuity' by the main players outweighs thoughts of any change.
  8. Afternoon all. Lost 3kgs in ramadan. Unfortunately colooshu wali waa sidii
  9. Are there any Quranic Arabic experts here?
  10. African American and Hispanic students in US public schools are receiving disproportionate disciplinary action that has led to what many are calling the “school-to-prison pipeline”. Studies show that minority pupils are more often suspended or expelled, which some view as the first step toward incarceration. According to statistics from a 2009-10 sample study by the US Department of Education, African American students constituted 39 per cent of school expulsions while making up only 18 per cent of the sample population. These unequal disciplinary measures may have harmful secondary effects as well: results from one research study found African American kindergarteners were three times as likely to see themselves as academic failures compared to their Caucasian peers. In this episode of The Stream, we speak to Garrett Duncan, Associate Professor of Education at the Washington University in St. Louis, and Judith Browne-Dianis (@jbrownedianis), co-director at the Advancement Project. Members of The Stream community also join us in a Google+ hangout. In an effort to make classrooms safer following the massacre at Columbine High School in 1999, schools across the US adopted zero-tolerance discipline policies to regulate student behaviour. Designed to ensure consistent punishments for misbehaviour, the policy aims to deter disruption by threat of severe repercussions. Ideally, as a result of these procedures, students who want to learn will not have their education compromised by problematic peers. Despite these intentions, studies dispute the effectiveness of zero-tolerance policies. Below, a graph describes the rise in out-of-school suspensions--particularly for African American students--in the wake of the policy shift. 11. Eid was great. Didn't do much myself but the kids had a blast at the local Eid fun fair with their cousins and I watched the footy . Eid is about the kids. How was eid in Hargaisa?
  12. Good riddance. But, to equate this to the end of Ethiopia is silly. The new Somali government can take many lessons from Zenawi's era in terms of geopolitical positioning, utilising natural resources, development funding (some re-directed to military), encouraging foreign investment and infrastructure development.
  13. ^Eid mubarak saxib I was going to fast today but koob shaaha was just too tempting. Barito inshaAllah.
  14. Looking foward to reading his book when published (I hope he touches on these sort of issues and expectations etc etc). Where do these new breed of SOLers come from?
