Recommended Posts

does a balanced Somali diet exist?

Somali food is everything but balanced ma istidhi? it's terrible, boring, repetitive and isn't exactly healthy. i'm sick of eating the same stuff every day..... except Friday's where i always have my special qado......:D

i created this thread in the hope we could share ideas on how to maintain a balanced somali diet. if you could also post what you eat on a regular basis, that'll be useful.

Breakfast (7am): one omelet (eggs, tuna, onions, green peppers) wrapped in malawax. 500ml water, glass of orange juice and double shot espresso.

mid morning (10:30am): Fruit salad (plums, pineapple chunks, watermelon etc)

lunch (1:30) rice/pasta with chicken breast and spinach/broccoli/cabbage and a banana. Bottle of water .

mid afternoon (5:00) Handful of honey-roasted almonds

dinner (8pm) Chicken breast/ salmon steak, steamed veggies

There are variation to the combo but I think you get the idea.

Good thread. I have totally gone off Somali food. My diet is less bariis, less pasta, more grilled meat/chicken and more fish.
