chubacka Posted November 22, 2012 Hi 5, we were in Marrakech last April. How long are you there for? The city itself doesn't take too long to explore, so if you're there for more than 3 days book some excursions. The Ben Yousef mosque and school is definitely worth seeing as is the old theatre, you will def see Masjidul Kutibiyah, if you hang around you will probably be able to be shown the top where you can see the whole city. Try to go to Essaouira, its a georgeous white washed beach town, really beautiful, about 2 1/2 hours drive. If I were to go again, I'd stay there. Cabs can be expensive and unnessary so take a good map and you should be fine to walk to most places. The souk in the old madinah, near masjidul Kutibiyah, is where everyone seems to concregate in the evenings and there are lots of places to eat and watch the madness of the souk unfold. Shops are aplenty and prices differ so I'd say don't buy anything for @ least the first couple of days until you know what's what. Alpha Blondy Posted November 22, 2012 ^ lol@chubacky the wacky, you holidaying? naga da dee LOL! was in marrakech in 2006 and i wasnt impressed by the sterile nature of the city. the moroccan people are really disgusting and didnt leave a lasting impression on me. its not the most touristy friendly place. the city lacked personality but i did meet some really nice americans and we chilled for the last 4 days of my holz. the food was authentic and fresh. back in those days the city was like a concrete jungle and there was a construction almost everywhere and it almost turned out to be like one of those holz from hell. in the morning i did touristy type activities in jamal el farna market and after dark went clubbing and visited casinos. i was staying in a basic hotel called younis hotel and the receptionist was always friendly and the food austere. i was constantly asked where i was from like i was some kind of a celebrity. senegal, mali and gambia were all suggested but i took time to all those willing to listen to explain i was from somaliland. i wouldnt mind going with 5 at all ruunti. she seems cultured and interesting. just the type of person to go on holiday with.
