Haile Mariam - Ethiopia's Next PM

Recommended Posts

Somalis' nightmares have officially came to live. Haile Mariam, a man from the same tribal-family as Mengistu Haile Mariam will most likely be elected to be the next Prime Minister of Ethiopia.

From Wikipedia:

After the death of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi on 20 August 2012, Desalegn was named acting prime minister.

Born in the Wolaita Zone Boloso Sore District of Southern Ethiopia, he studied and spent most of his youth in Wolaita.

From Wikipedia:

Your ignorance in this subject is very obvious from this thread. Very shameful indeed. Desalegn Haile Mariam has no ties with the late Mengistu Haila Mariam. Mengistu was Amhara, a northern highlander. Desalegn Haila Mariam is a southerner, he is from a minority community from the south. He is no Amhar, no ties with the north. He is not going to last long in the position. A tigrayan will take over soon, he is just an "acting PM" for now. Amhara has no chance unless a big change happens and TPLF collapses.

Mengistu Haile Mariam is not an Amhara. lol Talk about ignorance. This guy Haile Mariam Desalegn and Mengistu are from the same minority tribe. They're both from the South. As for Political ties, I didn't mention anything of that sort.

Zack is correct this man is just temporary while the powers that be organize themselves. : Melez was all powerful in his country that it will be hard to replicate and the system is weak.

From my inside sources, Meles Zenawi was never working alone. The TPLF created an inner circle of Military Juntas that supervised the President and the Prime Minister.

The TPLF will collapse due to suspicions from one another and betrayals. I assure you that.

Hailemariam Desalegn is a "Wolayta" an ethnic minority from the southern nations, nationalities and peoples region, very different from the Ahmara. The Tigray would not run the risk of handing power to the Ahmara or Oromo in the current climate, Hailemariam Desalegn was one of Meles Zenawis close associates who went up the ranks due to his strong loyalty to Meles Zenawi specifically during an internal split among the TPLF in 2001.He served as a toothless regional president and currently held the positions of Deputy pm and Foreign minister. He was not seen as a threat to TPLF rule largely due to his ethnic background, but it will be interesting to see if he serves with his own policy outlook as acting PM or continues been loyal to his TPLF puppeteers. The news circling is his the choice of the Americans who want to diffuse any fall-out from the death of Meles Zenawi. It could be that this arrangement is similar to the transitional period of 1991-1995 where tamirat layne was the puppet prime-minister of the TPLF until a proper power transfer was prepared.Whatever the outcome the death of Meles Zenawi undoubtedly the brains behind the TPLF will change the political landscape. The demographically dominant Oromo and Ahmara may swoop on this opportunity if there cards fall right and Western nations are pushing for more inclusion a clear threat to the TPLF's complete monopolization of power. The TPLF will have to make some compromises to fend off the current political and economic instability eroding its power.

many of TPLFs old guard were ousted by Meles in his consolidation of power and now with his death, the TPLF is vulnerable.
