Police holding 29 Ugandans in probe

Recommended Posts

Police are still interrogating the 29 Ugandans arrested in a house in Maji Mazuri, Kasarani area.

Police Spokesman Eric Kiraithe said the Ugandans, 27 men and two women, were headed for Somalia to join the terror group Al-Shabaab.

Mr Kiraithe also said that the security alert remained the same and urged Kenyans to continue being vigilant.

However, he told Kenyans not to panic. “Alerts are purely for preventive purposes and are not in any way meant to spread fear,” said Mr Kiraithe.

Mr Kiraithe said that police had intensified patrols and intelligence gathering within the border to ensure that there were no repeat attacks on security posts.

However, he said that they had no plans of inviting the Kenya Defence Forces to boost security at the police posts and stations.

He also revealed that the intelligence officer who was alleged to have been kidnapped in Gerille had been found where he had escaped to.

Military Spokesman Col Cyrus Oguna said that the Kenyan mission remained unchanged and repeated that, so far, over 700 militants had been killed.

He assured Kenyans that Operation Linda Nchi will not end until the Al-Shabaab threat is eliminated.

Col Oguna said that on Tuesday, an Al-Shabaab commander, Abdi Rashid, among other fighters, were killed and three technicals destroyed.

Later the same day, KDF soldiers on foot patrol encountered Shabaab militants and, following a shootout, one KDF fighter was killed and two others injured. KDF used helicopter gunships that killed six Al-Shabaab militants.
