Words of Wisdom !

Recommended Posts

Lets post some words of wisdom for the purpose of reflection, contemplation and self-introspection.May we all benefit from them, by way of implementing them in our daily lives.

"The Dunyaa is like salt-water; whenever you increase in drinking it, you will also increase in thirst!"

" The ailment of the body is in sickness and that of the heart is in sins. A delicious meal cannot benefit the body when the person is sick and likewise, the heart cannot taste the sweetness of worship if it is full of sins."

"I know none who has heard of Paradise and Hell, then spends an hour of his life without praying, remembering Allah or doing a good deed." A man said: "I weep so much." He said to him: "To laugh and admit your sins is better than to weep and feel proud of your deeds." The man said: "I need your advice." He said: "Abandon the life of this world to its people as they have abandoned the Hereafter to its people."

Al-Hasan Al-Basri (rahimahullah)said, " Whomever Allaah gives provision and he thinks that Allaah is not testing him, has no wisdom. Whomever has little provision and thinks that Allaah will not look at (provide for) him, has no wisdom." He then recited the Ayaah,

“ So, when they forgot (the warning) with which they had been reminded, We opened to them the gates of every (pleasant) thing, until in the midst of their enjoyment in that which they were given, all of a sudden, We took them to punishment, and lo! They were plunged into destruction with deep regrets and sorrows.†(Al-An'am 6:44)

He added, " By the Lord of the Ka'bah! Allaah deceived these people, when He gave them what they wished, and then they were punished ." Ibn Abi Haatim recorded this statement. [Ad-Durr Al-Manthur 3:270, Ibn Abi Haatim 4:1291]

Abu Malik at-Ash'ari reported: The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: Cleanliness is half of faith and al-Hamdu Liliah (Praise be to Allaah) fills the scale, and Subhan Allaah (Glory be to Allaah) and al-Hamdu Liliah (Praise be to Allaah) fill upwhat is between the heavens and the earth, and prayer is a light, and charity is proof (of one's faith) and endurance is a brightness and the Holy Qur'an is a proof on your behalf or against you. All men go out early in the morning and sell themselves, thereby setting themselves free or destroying themselves . SahihMuslim.Com

''The foundation of the Religion is following (al-Ittibaa`), and the intellect is subservient.' So if the foundation of the Religion was upon the intellect, the creation would have been in no need of Revelation, nor of Prophets, and the meaning of commanding and prohibiting would be false, and whoever wished could have said whatever he wished."

" I am amazed at the people who take care of themselves by eating food out of fear of dying, yet do not protect themselves from sins out of fear of the Fire". Siyar A'laam an-Nubalaa. - Volume 6, Page 348

"Beware of sins which are treated as being minor, just like a people who encamp in the centre of a valley, so someone brings a stick of firewood and someone else brings a stick until they are therefore able to bake their bread. Likewise sins which are treated as being minor and for which the person is taken to account will destroy him". Musnad al-Imaam Ahmad - Volume 5, Page 331 and others

" Just as I have mentioned previously, the cure to that which you suspect to be a mistake is to telephone the one whom you suspect has made the mistake and discuss the issue with him, then consider your position after the discussion." Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymeen

From Abu Sa'eed al-Khudree (radiyallaahu 'anhu) who said that Allaah's Messenger said: The example of the believer with regards to eemaan is like the example of a horse with regards to its tethering stake; it roams around and then returns to its tethering stake, and the believer is negligent and then he turns to his eemaan. So feed the pious with your food and treat the believers well.

From Aboo Umaamah Iyaas ibn Tha'labah who said: The Companions of Allaah's Messenger (salallaahu 'alaihi wa'sallam) mentioned this world one day in his presence, so Allaah's Messenger (salallaahu 'alaihi wa'sallam) said: Will you not listen, will you not listen! Wearing old clothes is part if eemaan, wearing old clothes is part of eemaan!

Reported by Aboo Dawood (Eng. Trans. 3/1158/no.4149) and its chain of narration is hasan

From Jaabir (radiyallaahu 'anhu) who said that Allaah's Messenger (salallaahu 'aliahi wa'sallam) said: Do not acquire knowledge in order to compete with the scholars, nor to argue with the ignorant, nor to gain mastery over the gatherings. Since whoever does that, then: The Fire! The Fire!

May Allaah have mercy upon you! Know that the Sunnah is not a matter for analogies or reasoning with examples, and desires are not to be followed in it. Rather, it is just a case of affirming the narrations from Allaah's Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam), without asking how, explaining or saying: 'Why?' or 'How?'

Taken from ibn Abdul Al-Birr.

A man used to ask questions to Abu Ad-Darda, so he said to him, " Everything that you are asking about, do you implement it?" The man replied; No. So he said to him, "So what will you do with the additional arguement that ALLAH has against you!"

" The humble student, is the one who gets the most knowledge. Just as the lowest places on earth have the most water".

Sufyan ibn Husayn said :

" I mentioned something bad about a man in the presence of Iyaas ibn Mu'aawiyah who looked at me and said : "Have you fought against the Romans?" I said : 'No', He said : "What about Sind and India and Turkey?" I said : 'No', He said : 'Rome, Sind, India, and Turkey are all safe from you but your Muslim brother is not safe from you?!" Sufyaan ibn Husayn said : "I never did that again.""

Al-Bidaayah wan-Nihaayah (Vol.13/page 121)

SIGNS OF TRUE BROTHERHOOD:

’Alee Ibn Abee Taalib (radiyallaahu ’anhu) said:

“ Your brother is one who – if he brings a calamity upon you sometimes,

then he does not cease having mercy upon you. Your brother is not the

one who – if your affairs become disrupted – starts abusing and

insulting you.†,

From the signs that one has drowned in his sins is his lack of delight in fasting during the day and praying through the night

Al-Hasan Al-Basri

To be devout for a short while is to survive for ever, but devotion is rare

So it is upon you to fear God - the Mighty and Majestic - and not to fear anyone else except Him. Turn to God - the Mighty and Majestic - for your every need, and rely upon Him alone - the Most High - seeking that which you need from Him alone. Do not rely upon anyone other than Almighty God. And Tawheed [Monotheism] - all is contained in Tawheed

Shaykh 'Abdul-Qaadir al-Jeelaanee (d. 561H)

The greatest start of Knowledge is to listen and remain silent, then to memorise it, then to act upon it, then to spread it

Muhammad ibn an-Nadr

Zuhd (abstinence) is not eating coarse food and wearing rough clothes, but it is limiting your hopes and watching out for death

Sufyan Al-Thawri

'He is not truthful to Allaah who loves fame'

Ibrahim bin Adham
