WAR LUGEED:Meles Zenawi oo qoray dikumenti sir oo sheegaya in gobolka Tigrey uu goosto

KismaayoNews (15 Apr 07) Waa barnaamijkii WAR LUGEED ee aanu idiinku soo gudbin jiray maalin walba oo Axad ah warar, taxliil, faaqidaad, iyo sir culus oo aadan ka dhagaysanaynin idaacada Ingiisku leeyahay ee BBC da, maantana waxaan idiinku haynaa R/Wasaaraha Ethiopia Meles Zenawi oo warqad qoraal ah oo sir ah u gudbiyay wasiirada Tigreega ee ku jira dawlada Ethiopia kagana faallooday in laga shaqeeyo in gobolka Tigrey uu gooni isu taago haddii ay duruuftu khasabto.

Qoraalkan sirta ah oo ka koobnaa 22 bog ayaa waxaa 31 March 2007 qoray joornaal la yidhaahdo African Intelligence oo ka soo baxa dalka Faransiiska. Joornaalkan ayaa sheegaya inay gacanta ku hayaan dikumantiga sirta ah laakiin aan wada daabacnin.

Qoraalkan sirta ah ayaa ugu baaqayaa dadka Tigreegu inay si xoog badan u dhistaan gobolkooda ilaa la gaadhsiiyo inuu isku filaan karo kaligii haddii loo baahdo. Qoraalkan sirta ah ayaa waxaa sixiixay oo Zenawi ku taageeray Wasiiro Tigree ah oo ay ka mid yihiin Siyuum Mesfin, Abay Tsehaye iyo Sebhat Nega waxaa kale oo loo gudbiyay qoraalka sirta taageerayaasha jabhadda TPLF oo ah mida xukunta haatan Ethiopia.

Qoraalkan sirta ee uu qoray Meles Zenawi ayaa wuxuu xusay ahmiyada 4 mashruuc oo laga gaba-gabeeyay dhulka Tigrey oo ay ka mid tahay Mashruuca biya xidheenka korontada ee Tekezie oo uu Zenawi sheegay in layd tiriiga uu dhaliyo mashrucani uu ku filaan karo gobolka Tigrey hadduu ka go'o Ethiopia inteeda kale. Waxaa kale oo Zenawi ku buuriyay taageerayashiisa inay xidhiidh hoose la samaystaan dawlada Shiinaha oo uu yidhi waxay ganac ka gaysan karaan dhismaha casriga ah ee Tigrey.

Zenawi ayaa wuxuu ku buuriyay mar kale dadka qurba joogta ah ee u dhashay gobolka Tigrey inay maal gashadaan gobolka si uu isku filaansho u gaadho. Wuxuu Zenawi sheegay inay lagama maarmaan tahay in jaaliyada Tigreega laga dhargiyo qorshahan lagana dhigo awood wax qabsan karta. Ugu danbayn wuxuu Zenawi qoraalkiisan sirta ah ku sheegay inay Tigreegu xidhiidh sokeeye la yeeshaan dadka Eritrean ah isaga oo xusay in gooni isu taaga gobolka Tigray lagu soo daro dadka Eritreanka ah ee aan Muslimka ahayn.

Waxaa Meles Zenawi ku kacsan 6 jabhadood oo Ethiopian ah oo hubaysan. Waxaa kale oo ku kacsan xisbi aan hubaysnayn oo Axmaara ah oo aad u xoog badan kagana guulaystay dhammaanba kuraasta Addis Ababa. Waxaa kale oo aan la xalinin xasarada u dhaxaysa Ethiopia iyo Eritrea. Dhinaca kale wuxuu Zenawi qabsaday dalka Soomaaliya oo ay ciidankiisu joogaan maanta caasimada Muqdisho.

Dadka siyaasada indha indheeya ayaa ku andacoonaya in Zenawi uu isku daray xisaabo rasmi ah uuna arkay inuu galay khaladyo istaraatiiji ah oo sababi doona ama dhicida maamulkiisa ama kala tagida Ethiopia. Labadan arimood ayaan labaduba dan u ahayn mujtamca Tigreega oo dakanooyin badan uu galiyay Melez Zenawi. Hadda wuxuu Zenawi ku soo baraarujinayaa taageerayaashiisa khararta ay ku jirto jirintaankoodu wuxuuna u sii diyaariyanaa xaalada ugu xun oo ah in Tigree oo aan cadow cid awaliba u tahay oo aan lahayn bad loo diyaariyo gooni isu taagid.

Dikumentigan ayaa wuxuu rajo wayn ugu fadhiyaa Soomaalida ay gumaysato Ethiopia iyo Soomaalida cusub ee ku soo biiray gacanta cadowga. Waxaa muuqata in Zenawi iyo maamulkiisu ayna sii waari karin ayna ku fadhiyaan banbaano waqti ku xidhan yahay oo iftiin bixinaysa. Soomaalida ayaa waxay u baahan yihiin inay gacmaha is qabsadaan oo la isu kaashado sidii la isu daba raacin lahaa cadowga taariikhiga ah ee Ethiopia oo maanta gabi ka laalaada.

According to information obtained in Addis Ababa by The Indian Ocean Newsletter, the Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has written a 22 page document entitled Tigray in the new Millenium calling for a strengthening of the construction of a Tigray Regional State which is in a position to “survive on its own means if necessary”. This text was approved by Seyoum Mesfin, Abay Tsehaye and Sebhat Nega and is now circulating in the executive circles of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF, hard core of the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front in power in Addis Ababa) as a confidential document. According to our sources, it lists the various infrastructure projects already completed in Tigray, laying special emphasis on the Tekezie hydro-electric dam for its role in the electrification of the country, calls for the expansion of other sectors of activity in this region in the North of Ethiopia and praises the close relations between the Tigray Regional State and China. This text also considers that the Tigrayan Diaspora abroad should be “educated and mobilised to invest” in this regional state. Finally, it stresses the need to establish close relations with certain Eritrean opponents. This theoretical assemblage is similar to the thesis in favour of creating an independent state, coupling Ethiopian Tigrayans and Christian Eritreans from the high plateaux. The idea of such a Tigray-Tigrigni State was favoured two decades ago by certain Ethiopian Tigrayan and Eritrean nationalists.

TPLF's secret document?

EthioMedia

April 3, 2007

AN INDIAN OCEAN NEWSLETTER REPORT headlined “A confidential TPLF document” and published on a few websites claims that Meles has authored a 22-page document titled “Tigray in the New Millenium." The prime minister would like to speed up the construction of a Tigray Regional State, according to the report, capable of “surviving on its own,"in other words a Tigray that would stand on its feet when Meles Zenawi's bantustanization program bears fruit, and results in the break-up of Ethiopia.

This piece is most likely a ‘paid advertisement’ by Meles, who, as usual, would like to demoralize Ethiopians that the disintegration of their country is inevitable. No genuine Ethiopian would think, or still worse, work toward the disintegration of ones own country other than the enemies of Ethiopia.

If Meles had a whiff of love for Tigrai, he would have a natural love for Ethiopia as Tigrai is an integral part of Ethiopia. I cannot love Axum and hate Lalibela. Period. For Mr. Meles, though, we know they are worlds apart; no connection, no affection. Therefore, Mr. Meles cannot love Tigray and hate the rest of Ethiopia. In fact, Tigrai is often referred to as the ‘cradle of the modern state of Ethiopia.’ The man who ridicules Ethiopia as a "colonial power whose creation is a mere 100 years" cannot be concerned about the wellbeing of Tigrai, a region that proudly traces its origins back to the great Axumite Civilization on whose fountain modern-day Ethiopia sprouted like a baobab tree.

This reality, backed up by numerous historians and other academics who have published books and written articles over the centuries, is an illusion and a source of mockery for the secessionists who are toiling every day to materialize the break-up of our country. For this reason, they still sponsor and promote the politics of ethnicity.

The means of survival in power

Meles has no power in a united Ethiopia. But he is still in power because we haven't exploited the full potential of our Unity. We haven't united enough to oust him. We are still the victims of partisan politics. We worry for our party more than worrying for the survival of our country. We worry for our trade union more than worrying for the survival of the opposition party that millions of Ethiopians chose as their party in front of our own eyes. We go in search of new leaders in the stead of fighting for the release - and their eventual empowerment - of the people's leaders Meles has locked up at Kaliti. In fact, a few of us had also the luxury of trying to stab our own party in the back. Meles exploits our weaknesses - such as distributing the ION story we are talking about - and turns them into a political power that keeps him walk upright like a legitimate leader. He knows some of us have short memories, and constantly feeds us a staple diet of hate and division and confusion.

It is crucial to our survival to scrutinize how Mr Meles deals with his political opponents, and a case in point is how he destroyed the Ethiopian wing of TPLF in 2001. Clearly, it was analogous to the Ethiopian proverb of "Berrey Karaju Gar Ywulal."

Both the Ethiopian and masked Eritreans lived as members of the TPLF family for nearly 30 years. When the Ethiopians woke up from their long slumber, and asked Meles, "Who are you?" he ate them. For Meles, it was time to swiftly move out of Tigrai to central Ethiopia in search of new clients that would gather around a new theme: "Election 2005." But that is another story for another time. Now, let's stay with the purged TPLF.

We have a great lesson to learn from TPLF demise, from the political downfall of TPLF leaders like Siye Abraha, the victim of Meles Zenawi's political vendatta.

If those TPLF leaders Meles crippled en masse had the awareness of the Berrey Karaju fable, they wouldn't have accused Meles of being an Eritrean mercenary and tried to resolve Zenawi's "crime" at a round-table discussion.

Their political innocence cost them dearly that they died without telling their deepest political secrets to the Ethiopian people.

Why they died quietly is because they were the long-time victims of a Stalinist dictum: "TPLF leaders never leak secrets. They never knew that transparency - one of the ingredients of democracy - was a source of strength because it makes you open to your people, your constituency from whom you draw support in return. There was no one to remind them they were being skillfully used as the appendages of a stifling organization with an agenda detrimental to their country, Ethiopia. They were mute, and their muteness was rather hailed as "iron-discipline. People would openly say "there is no slip of the tongue with TPLF leaders. If they want, they can listen to you all day long - if necessary for days and weeks - and in the end, you haven't heard a word from them while they have gone away with tons of information about you."

Meles capitalized on this poisonous rule of thumb: "TPLF leaders never leak secrets." He virtually turned them into muted officials. His Stalinist "code of ethics" blind-folded them from opening themselves to - and drawing strengths from - the Ethiopian people by sharing their worries and concerns and differences they have had with the leader they said was working for Eritrea. They could have easily won the support of the Ethiopian people if they had shared the secrets they gathered before, during, and after the 1998-2000 War whose victory Meles handed over to his native Eritrea.

The former TPLF leaders who militarily stood up in defense of Ethiopia during the Eritrean aggression politically failed to this very day to share any secrets with the Ethiopian people. In fact, it is very clear that except very few former TPLF members, such as the scholarly Tesfay Atsbeha and Kahsay Berhe , most former TPLF members may be physically out of TPLF but are psychologically - nearly two decades later - still trapped inside Dansha and Dedebit, two famous TPLF bases that were active between 1975 and 1991.

The information about the bellicose agenda of the prime minister and TPLF crimes comes from an unexpected quarter. The most important information we learned about Prime Minister Meles clearly came from one Gebre-Medhin Araia, who was the first TPLF treasurer and a native of Adua who warned us time and again that Meles Zenawi was an Eritrean who was born and raised in Eritrea, and we should open our eyes and ask: "Who is in power?"

If we are aware of the "Berrey Karaju anecdote, then we would know, for instance, the ongoing war of words between Meles and Isaias is nothing more than a boisterous publicity stunt between two Eritrean groups each fighting to grab a larger political turf over the destiny of us Ethiopians.

Whether it is the noise Meles Zenawi makes over the eight Ethiopians kidnapped by the Eritrean regime last month, or any other move Meles makes over Eritrea as a “hotbed of terrorism” is an empty rhetoric designed to pre-occupy war-wary Ethiopians with the spectre of another war with Asmara, on top of the one raging in neighboring Somalia, and totally forget our struggle for our own freedom.

Obviously, sustaining an environment of fear and conflict is the modus operandi of the two Eritrean groups whose number one threat to their survival in power is the unity of the Ethiopian people. By any means possible, they would never allow us to unite and consolidate our people’s power. We have to foil their constant beating of war drums. We don't have to panic like the naïve Ferenji reporter in Addis or Asmara who - upon hearing that Meles and Isaias are trading angry words - dispatches a news story whose headline screams: "Ethiopia and Eritrea on the brink of another war."

We have to learn from the TPLF dissidents Meles and Bereket Simon wiped out from the political landscape of Ethiopia. And most certainly, it is up to Ethiopians to be vigilant from being the consumers of Meles Zenawi’s toxic 'news stories' that chew away the fibers of Ethiopian Unity.

Ethiopia's fall is inevitable, but will Somalia be ready to benefit from the disintegration of Ethiopia, like Ethiopia was for the disintegration of Somalia?
